An area rock band’s inventive and controversial “Flash Tour” made its way into Chinguacousy Park Wednesday evening entertaining scores of beach volleyball players and passersby.
The band, Wicked Truth (www.wickedtruth.ca), has already “flashed” Kitchener-Waterloo, Acton, Guelph, Erin, and Georgetown attracting a great deal of attention – but not all of it positive. The constant risk of fines and even arrest became very real at a recent flash concert when both by-law officers and police became involved.
“But that didn’t scare us off” says Matthew Bunt, Wicked Truth lead singer and showman. “We’re doing everything we can to get out there, and our new fans have been loving every minute of it! And so do we.”
The four-piece band pulls up in a pair of pickup trucks, runs generators, and then it’s showtime! Where the flash concerts are to take place are kept secret until mere hours prior to their arrival. Each flash concert consists of 5 or 6 classic and new rock songs from artists including Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Aerosmith, Jane’s Addiction, and Green Day.
And then they’re gone.
Prior to Chinguacousy Park, Wicked Truth played an earlier flash concert in front of the Keltic Rock Pub at Sandalwood Pkwy. and Kennedy Rd. much to the surprise and amazement of many including Keltic Rock owner Mike Letourneau.
“I’ve never seen anything like it” said Letourneau, “We get a lot of really good bands in here all the time, but these guys are on a whole other level.”
Letourneau was so impressed by the performance he booked the band on the spot.
“It happens all the time” Bunt adds. “A Wicked Truth show really needs to be experienced to be appreciated. So we bring our show to fans and bar owners, and they respond. They ALWAYS respond.”
The risk seems to be paying off for Wicked Truth as they’ve attracted hundreds of new followers on Facebook, are booked solid through the end of 2018 and well into next year, and have even been voted #1 band winning a Platinum Readers’ Choice Award in Halton Hills where Bunt lives.
Wicked Truth frequently plays in Brampton at Keenan’s Irish Pub, will be playing at Oscar’s Roadhouse in August, Tracks Brewpub in December… and now Keltic Rock in October.
So, it seems Brampton CAN handle the (Wicked) Truth. - Brampton Guardian
