Jared Geyer – Lead Vocalist
One of my all-time favorite bands would have to be OneRepublic. It would definitely be surreal to be on tour with them. Ryan Tedder’s songwriting skills are some of the best in the industry. We definitely look to them as an inspiration for our music. My ultimate dream would be to do a world tour with them, being able to bounce around song ideas with them would be a dream come true for us, but probably a nightmare for them!
Another one of my top inspirations would be The 1975. Their style and sound have changed mainstream music. They have such a unique songwriting style and their live performance is definitely one to be seen! Matt Healy keeps the term “rock star” alive with every performance. A UK tour with them would be on the top of our list.
Of course, we have a list of other artists that we’d love to tour with; The Arctic Monkeys, LANY, Switchfoot, Parachute, The Royal Concept, Colony House, St. Lucia, CRUISR, and so many more!
Greg Olin – Guitarist
I always dream big. I would love to hit the road with the boys from The Arctic Monkeys. I’ve spent hours and hours watching live videos of their concerts across the world. I am always blown away with their performance and the originality of the shows. There is nothing like it. The stage presence Alex Turner has is unparalleled and he commands the audience’s attention. I have caught myself mimicking some of his mannerisms myself. Personally, I feel like jumping on a few shows on a tour of the Southwest would be an amazing opportunity for me to learn more first-hand and to get Weslynn’s music in front of a large group of people not too far from our home in Phoenix, AZ.
Another amazing band I would love to share the stage with would be The 1975. I went to their show here in my hometown and was blown away. I felt so inspired seeing how much they put into their live show; the lights, movement, and sound are unparalleled. Getting to see Matt Healy strut up and down the stage while burning Benson cigarettes is always a plus.
Kevin Holmes – Drummer
My dream tour would be with The 1975. I really respect the artistry and production value that The 1975 puts into their live show. It would be an opportunity to perform and connect with fans on a completely different level. I’d also like to go on a national tour with Augustana. Weslynn was heavily influenced by Augustana during the initial formation of the band. It would feel like we had come full circle if we were able to join them on a tour.
Adam Simons – Guitarist
There are a ton of artists that I’d love to go on tour with, but one in particular right now would be The 1975. I’m such a big fan of their music and their vibe. It would be surreal to play a show with them and probably very intimidating! They seem like genuine guys and I’d love a chat with them here and there. Another artist that I’d love to tour with would be John Mayer. He’s probably my favorite musician of all time. I’ve been so influenced by his music and guitar playing that it’s one of my bucket list dreams to be able to meet him and play with him onstage. In reality, I would probably be too nervous to even say anything, but here’s hoping I could hold my own! - Digital Tour Bus
Weslynn — "Strange Feelings"
I've been look forward to Weslynn's second EP since I got to their debut, Dark Days, a bit too late for a timely review. Last week, Weslynn dropped the new single "Strange Feelings," and it's a much smoother, more heavily produced and commercially appealing tune. This thing feels like it's ready to launch into alternative radio. It's a catchy pop song with a hint of what Maroon 5 would sound like with John Mayer as lead singer. Upon first listen, I was reminded of how recent "alternative" hits are really looking toward synth-loaded '80s hits, and Weslynn's new single is right in line with that ideal. I could totally see this becoming a monster hit on stations with the same format as ALT AZ, because this would totally complement their current playlist. I could also see Weslynn hitting the road in one of those festival packages with like-minded bands from across the country. I have a feeling that their upcoming record will be a solid hit machine in waiting. They're only one connection away from breaking out in a big way, I'd say, but this new EP has to get to the right person for that. Weslynn will be releasing their sophomore EP, Black and Champagne, on August 26 through For Emily Records. - Phoenix New Times

It’s been a crazy month, it’s been a crazy year for that matter. As we al tried to stay busy, so has the band Weslynn who has been non-stop working in new music and some really slick and sexy visuals. The last time we heard from the band was through the single and visuals for ‘Strange Feelings‘, a very playful and feel-good anthem that sparked a good time with every listen. Today we are stoked to premiere the newest project from Weslynn ‘Black’, the song much like the Music Video contains a darker and mature note than their previous work. It’s a seductive and more polished sound with just enough cynical accents to keep a Rock and Roller vibe like, we are not mad about it. We want more from it, keep them tunes coming.
Founded in fall of 2013, three Arizona State University schoolmates and long time friends (Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, and Kevin Holmes) started to play music under the band name WESLYNN. They started gaining a fanbase in their hometown of Phoenix, AZ by playing coffee shops, cover gigs, and releasing original home recordings online. The following year they released professionally produced 5 track EP titled Dark Days. The album was engineered and produced by Nashville recording artist, David Dreas. May 2015 yielded the single What Went Wrong. In a statement to Cronkite News at ASU they said, “Everything we have been through has brought us closer together. We have individually had so many personal trials, that when we start playing music, it all fades away. The world is constantly changing and throwing tragedy into our lives, but WESLYNN has given us the opportunity to rally around each other and made us even closer friends. This music is a direct response to those hard times of love and loss.”
After a yearlong hiatus, this Indie/Pop/Rock band is back stronger than ever. They recorded a 5 song EP in spring of 2016 with producer Dan Parker; leading off with the single titled, Strange Feelings. They draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Queen, and classic pop rock bands. With smooth vocals, haunting harmonies, and grooving guitar vibes, WESLYNN’s mature sound and style reaches people of all ages. The band continus to focus on writing new music. - Nakid Magazine
‘STRANGE FEELINGS’ – WESLYNN | VIDEO PREMIRE {NEW MUSIC FRIDAYS / EXCLUSIVE}
« Previous / Next »
By ohmanmanmanny / July 28, 2016 / Exclusives, { NEW MUSIC FRIDAYS }
Have you ever woken up from a long nap with a weird aluminium bowl on your head and perfect bed hair, walked up to the living room to find out that your friends are weird AF? Well if you haven’t, you are not living life to the fullest. Jared Geyer, the lead singer of Weslynn, does just that on their new music video for the single ‘Strange Feelings’.
The film produced by Yellowbox Films, takes a very curious and adventurous tone. Like a hangover-free morning after a good night out with friends, where everyone is just in a great mood and acting out their inner weirdness. It’s a feel-good indie rock anthem you crave on a Tuesday afternoon after a long walk by the beach.
‘Strange Feelings’ is the first release from their upcoming 5 song EP with producer Dan Parker, called Black and Champagne” and out August 26. For the new material the band draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Queen, and classic pop rock bands. Check back with the band later this month, they have many surprises headed your way. - NAKID Magazine
Weslynn – “Black”
Weslynn’s Black + Champagne from last year was a surprise EP that I couldn’t get enough of and “Black” was one of my favorite pop anthems from it. “I love it when you wear black” is, I’m pretty sure something we’ve all said to a special someone at some point. Black is slimming and nearly everyone looks great in it, so it stands to reason. I’ve seen Weslynn play this live a few times and it’s even more striking from the stage, but this video adds something to the recorded version that makes it every bit as lively somehow. I realized about halfway through that it had to be Cory Davis behind the camera, but I was on full screen and couldn’t check. What do you know? Another amazing video from Yellowbox Films, of course. Davis has such a distinct visual style there’s almost no mistaking where he applies his auteur sensibility. The song is great and the video is a perfect match. - Sounds Around Town
When & Where: Friday, September 16th, 8pm at The Rebel Lounge
Reasons To Attend: Weslynn just dropped a fantastic new record, Luxxe did exactly the same thing around the same time. I’m not sure about Redlands or People Who Could Fly, but that will be more research for me to do. Seriously, check out the new records by Weslynn and Luxxe and keep in mind they will be in the same place at the same time Friday! - Sounds Around Town

Virgin of the Birds
“Spooky, Stony, Barely Over Thirty”
The Seattle three-piece known as Virgin of the Birds is gearing up for the release of their sophomore album this coming Fall. In prelude to this much-anticipated event, the band released “Spooky, Stony, Barely Over Thirty” which might be new favorite song of the week. Jon Rooney, songwriter for the trio, has a David Berman-esque propensity for witty, obscure lyrics that can be heard in this track. And the lo-fi garage pop sound has a summertime feel I can definitely get behind. The album drops in October, but you can hear “Spooky, Stony, Barely Over Thirty” before that here…
Danielle Grubb
“Glue”
Never underestimate the power of sounding different. All day, everyday, we’re inundated with submissions. It takes a lot to stand out in that sea of sound. Danielle Grubb, originally from Plano, TX and now residing in New York, did just that. The infectious (but not annoying) beat and smooth vocal style of “Glue” had me hooked from the get-go…
Banshee Speak
“In the Commons”
Banshee Speak, currently of Flagstaff, takes a sample from The Ronnettes and creates the perfect song to encapsulate the college years. It brings me back to lighthearted antics of that era with a playful sound that can’t be crammed into any one genre. At just over two minutes in length, my only complaint about “In the Commons” is that it’s simply too short. I need more Banshee Speak. Good news, however, I just discovered the Flagstaff band dropped an EP in August (here) so I know how the rest of my weekend is going to play out. Before you dive into the EP though, check out “In the Commons” below…
Decent at Best
“Sideways”
“Sideways” is the first single from the debut release of Tacoma’s Decent of Best. The track features the talents of Sean the Shaman for some slick rhymes to shake up the band’s indie pop sound. Not that Decent at Best is any stranger to hiphop infusion in their music. They will not be confined to any one genre. Pop? Electronica? R&B? It’s all coalesced into one form here. Check out “Sideways” below. If you dig what you’re hearing delve further into Retroactive Stimulation, also available through Soundcloud.

“Strange Feelings”
Phoenix’s Weslynn crafts a blithe pop style in this new single, “Strange Feelings”. The track came out in July in prelude to the band’s August release of their new EP, Black + Champagne. Love is a strange feeling, especially when it is brought on by a stranger, or a photograph found in a book, as the song addresses. At the same time, love can be blissful, much like this Weslynn track. Listen to “Strange Feelings” here and, if you like what you’re hearing, check out Black + Champagne here. - Yab Yum West
Weslynn are no strangers to AMBY. After featuring their stellar cover of Dark Horse by Katy Perry and premiering their song Hell To Love last year, we’re delighted to have the boys back on the website for yet another groovy premiere. Taken from their debut EP Dark Days, the indie-rock foursome (comprised of Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, Kevin Holmes, and Adam Simons) recently rocked out in their new aesthetically lovely video for their latest single What Went Wrong.
When asked about the video, Weslynn shared with AMBY;
“This song is extremely special to us. We all agree that this is one of the most important songs we have ever written as a band. The video was something that we all felt was long overdue, since the song was released almost 6 months ago. We wanted to put something together for our fans that is as special as the song is to us.”
Weslynn are currently working on their next EP. Watch What Went Wrong exclusively on AMBY and follow updates from the band below! - A Music Blog Yea

Bound together by the trials of college, members of the indie pop rock band Weslynn forged a bond during their years at Arizona State University, one that has only grown stronger since 2013. The trio (Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, and Kevin Holmes) have since become some of the favorite musical sons of their home state, all starting with their first EP, Dark Days. Since then, the three Weslynn16832228_1298811706832448_904824016683275444_nhave gone through some considerable growth, and we’re happy to share news of their best song collection yet, the new EP, Black + Champagne.
Geyer gave us the download on the new songs – he says fans can expect, “A cleaner, more produced sound than our last record. We really wanted to bring a new depth to our music. Dan Parker helped us achieve that. We had written about 15 songs for this record and we cut that down to five to give you this EP. Writing is always something that comes in different shapes and forms; unfortunately there isn’t a cookie cutter for songs, in our opinion. It’s a very organic process.” Click to http://weslynnmusic.com/ to listen to the tracks on Black + Champagne for yourself, and if you’re out west, certainly get to a show. These guys are just getting started. Now, keep reading. There’s still so much more to jump into in all the answers to the XXQs below.
XXQs: Weslynn
PensEyeView.com (PEV): How would you describe your sound and what do you feel makes you stand out from others in your genre?
Jared Geyer (JG): We describe ourselves as Indie, Pop, Rock. We draw a ton of inspiration from classic rock bands, not just current music and I think that helps us stand out.
PEV: What kind of music were you all into growing up? Do you remember your first concert?
JG: I was definitely into a lot of classic rock because that’s really all I knew growing up. My dad would blast Queen, The Stones, Social Distortion, and a ton of other greats weekend mornings. I remember going to see the Steve Miller Band at the Arizona State Fair, and I think that was my first real concert.
PEV: What was it like trying to break into the music scene in your hometown, when you first started out as a band? What was your first show like together as a band?
JG: Arizona has been amazing. We have done a bit of traveling and it’s still one of our favorite places to be. Everyone is extremely accepting and inviting to all music genres. Our first show was at a bar in Tempe. I think it’s safe to say we bombed that show, it was absolutely terrible.
Weslynn8671_589776281069331_735912901_nPEV: What can fans expect from a live Weslynn show?
JG: Lots of energy, especially from our guitarist Greg. The recordings are somewhat relaxed rock, but for shows we leave everything we have on the stage.
PEV: What is the first thing that comes to mind when you step on stage?
JG: Just giving it everything and putting it out there. It’s all about the performance of your music.
PEV: How has playing in Weslynn been different from working with other artists or projects in the past?
JG: Weslynn has really been all I’ve known. These guys have been with me since the beginning. Kevin and I have actually been in bands together for almost 10 years.
PEV: What is the underlying inspiration for your music? Where do you get your best ideas for songs?
JG: For me, it’s my wife. She is the inspiration for every love song on the record.
PEV: Thinking back to when you first started out, do you ever look back on your career and think about your earlier days and how you’ve arrived where you are today?
JG: Definitely. It’s not too hard to see a progression in our music. We started out playing in small coffee shops and bars acoustically. Now we get to tour and see the country!
PEV: What’s one thing we’d be surprised to hear about the members of Weslynn?
JG: Probably that we all hang out non-stop even if we aren’t playing music. Through almost 10 years of friendship there’s no one else we would rather spend our time with than each other.
PEV: What can fans expect from your latest release, the Black + Champagne EP? Tell us about the writing process behind this work.
JG: A cleaner, more produced sound than our last record. It’s a very organic process.
Weslynn15135908_1215840951796191_5590020425932728620_nPEV: What is the feeling you get after a song or album is complete and you can sit back and listen to it in full?
JG: Exhilarated. To hear the final mixes on a project brings so much joy and excitement. No matter what else being in a band brings, the recordings are the things people are going to hold on to and listen to for the longest period of time.
PEV: What would you say is the biggest challenge for musicians trying to make a name for themselves these days?
JG: I would argue that we live in the golden age of new music. With the internet on our side, anyone can make their dreams come true if they have the persistence and quality of material to rise above the rest.
PEV: With all your traveling, is there one area you wish you could travel around and play that you have not yet?
JG: We have yet to travel to the east coast of the US, and of course it would be awesome to travel abroad to UK, Mexico, or Australia!
PEV: How have all your friends and family reacted to your career? What’s it like when you get to play in your hometown?
JG: We are all surrounded with the best friends and family supporting us and this crazy dream. Playing AZ is the best feeling in the world. I love looking out and seeing all of our friends and family showing the love.
PEV: What can we find each of you doing in your spare time, aside from playing/writing music?
JG: I personally enjoy playing ice hockey and play pickup games whenever I can. Greg loves to cook (and he’s really good at it too). Kevin does amazing graphic design and website work and is also a part time drone pilot.
PEV: Name one present and past artist or group that would be your dream collaboration. Why?
JG: Mine would be Jon Foreman from Switchfoot. As much as I love classic rock music, Jon has put out an amazing collection of music over the years and his band was one of the original reasons I wanted to start playing guitar.
PEV: Is there an up and coming band or artist you think we should all be looking out for now?
JG: Big shoutout to Luxxe from Phoenix. They are really great friends of ours and they also happen to be killer musicians.
PEV: If playing music wasn’t your life (or life’s goal), what do you think each of you would be doing for a career?
JG: Pro hockey player/stay at home dad for sure.
PEV: So, what is next for Weslynn?
JG: Next up is more music! We are already working on a new record, expected to be released by the end of 2017!

Weslynn you’ve done it once again, you have delivered an indie pop/rock gem that is inviting, playful and completely amazing. With “Black” I personally feel they borrowed some inspiration from the little black dress that is said to be a must in any women’s wardrobe, why? honestly I don’t know, but there’s always something hypnotic about a woman in a black dress, maybe it is the unknown nature and ambiguity of the color or how it simply highlights that power and fierceness in them, who knows …maybe the band knows. The track is a complete must listen for it knows how to capture the attention of the listener and the verses are easy to connect with and envision. Plus while the music video serves us a variety of scenarios, we are always left wanting…even begging for a glimpse of the owner of that famous black dress. - Wolf In A Suit
Weslynn comes at us with some “Strange Feelings” and some great indie music. And because of this they create some strange feelings in us. Feelings of having our faith in music empowered. Feelings of being glad there are bands out there creating some amazing music. Even feeling excited for the possibilty of seeing Weslynn live in the future.
Weslynn is just one of those bands that come every once in a while with that nice indie rock sound with a hint of pop. They just have that special mix that makes you root for them and their future success. As a result of that special factor, I decided to write about them, plus I truly loved the song. - Wolf In A Suit
Founded in fall of 2013, three Arizona State University schoolmates and long time friends, Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, and Kevin Holmes started to play music under the band name WESLYNN. They started gaining a fanbase in their hometown of Phoenix, AZ by playing coffee shops, cover gigs, and releasing original home recordings online.
The following year they released professionally produced five track EP titled ‘Dark Days’. The album was engineered and produced by Nashville recording artist, David Dreas and was the band’s first solid step forward.
May of 2015 yielded the final member to complete WESLYNN, with Adam Simons (previously Radiodriveby) joining the growing band. Shortly after his induction, the band released the single ‘What Went Wrong’.
After a yearlong hiatus, this band are finally back and stronger than ever. They recorded a new five song EP in spring of 2016 with producer Dan Parker; leading off with the single titled, ‘Strange Feelings’, which you can catch above.
They draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Queen, and classic pop rock bands. With smooth vocals, haunting harmonies, and grooving guitar vibes, WESLYNN’s mature sound and style reaches people of all ages. The band continues to focus on writing new music, and if ‘Strange Feelings’ is any indication of what is come, then WESLYNN will be a massive name anytime soon. - Anthem Review

Hi, thanks for your time. Congrats on your new single Strange Feelings. It has a great meaning and is really catchy.
-Thank you! Much appreciated.
Some background questions to kick off this interview. So three years ago you started Weslynn with uni mates, what were you all studying?
-Jared: I was studying general business with a music minor, Greg was studying Communications with a music minor, and Kevin was a CIS major with a music minor.
Was it your dream to be in a band from a young age?
– While we have always had a love for music, the thought of actually having a chance to be in a band didn’t become a reality until our High School days. Jared: Growing up I always thought I would be a professional ice hockey player. Although I’m glad that path has changed, I enjoy having all of my teeth.
After your year off, you signed to For Emily Records, was this something that you were looking for? So many bands these days are trying to do everything themselves, it must be great to now have a Label supporting you and getting your music out there. Even all the way to Australia!
-During that break, although the shows stopped, the music never really did. Individually we wrote 20+ songs and knew after the break was over we wanted to come back stronger than ever. We recorded this upcoming record originally with our own budget. Only after we had finished the record we had the opportunity to show it and we were privileged enough to get signed. Now that we are signed we are working harder than ever.1ab6ee_96793486f37d4263b80c41a7efa5a4ab-mv2_d_2400_1762_s_2
In your bio you said you have been able to rally around each other due personal trials and that has made you even closer. Do you feel almost like a family?
-Definitely. We were family before the music and its become the cornerstone of our band. We will get together and grill on the barbecue for holidays. Through thick and thin we always have each others backs.
After taking a year long Hiatus you seem to be more cohesive and your new EP, a more mature sound. What did you do during this Hiatus, and was inspiration drawn from your time off?
-Thank you! We were really focused on our families. We still found time to meet up and write music. Jared and his wife were having their first child. Kevin was transitioning into a new job as a graphic and web designer at a cutting edge design firm. But the hardest hit for all of us was the passing of Greg’s father earlier this year. This record is dedicated to him. We poured all of these raw emotions into dozens of songs. You will hear some of them on this record, and more on future records.
You released a song called ‘What Went Wrong’, I really like this song, almost as much as ‘Strange Feelings’, can you explain the concept behind the writing of this song?
-What Went Wrong is really about putting all of your time and energy into a relationship just to have the other person walk away without explanation. Even once they are gone you still have all of those memories that haunt your life.
How does your writing process usually go? Is it whole band approach?
-Jared will usually come up with a verse and chorus for a song idea then bring it to the band where we all have input on the final outcome of the song. Other times we will be jamming nonsense and a catchy lick or lyric will come out of nowhere. There’s never one set way to write a song.
‘Strange Feeling’ brings back great memories for me for when I met my hubbie. That feeling that you have already met and the feeling of falling in Love. Is this the intended meaning? Sometimes songs mean different things to different people of course.
-Absolutely. We like to leave most songs up to the interpretation of the listener for that reason, but that is the concept we had in mind when writing Strange Feelings. Sometimes there’s an inescapable feeling of being connected to someone even if you don’t know how.
Music can take away pain and change our mood. ‘Strange Feelings’ makes me pretty happy. Do you have a story in which a fan has shared how your music has helped them?
-A young lady once told us that she found the courage to start writing and performing her own music because of what we started. That was just the most amazing thing. We were so inspired in return. Music and performing everything you are in front of people isn’t easy, so to inspire that in another human being is remarkable.
This song is very connectable, one of the reasons that your music stood out from the many submissions I get to listen to. Connectable not just to the young but people of any age. The entire EP is the same especially ‘It Gets Good’ This is a stand out song for me in regards to the message. What was there an experience that this was written about and can you explain what that was?
-Jared: It Gets Good came about after I got married. It’s a song to my wife. The first couple years of marriage can be so difficult, there’s a huge learning curve that come with living and sharing every part of yourself with another person. You can’t get hung up on the ‘what if’s’ in life. Through perseverance all things will get better. Invest in love and it will get better!

You have not yet named your EP, have you narrowed it down at all and is there one hint you can give us?
-We decided to call the EP ‘Black + Champagne’. We decided on this name as a concept, rather than taking a lyric for the album title.
I like it! Do you have an idea of the artwork for the EP?
-Yes. In the ‘Black + Champange’ album cover, we wanted to show class along with a subtle promotion of our song titled ‘Black’. A lot of bands go for a grunge look, but we decided to put on button down shirts and jackets for this one.
I have been reading through your facebook and it seems that you have not played live lately. Is there a tour planned after the release of the EP?
-There is no official tour announced yet, but we will be very soon! As for now we have a headlining show in Phoenix, Arizona at the Rebel Lounge on September 16th!
Do you run your social media yourselves?
–We do all of our social media ourselves and try to divide the platforms between all of the band members.
Is there any other news that you can share with our readers?
-This record is only the beginning. More videos, merchandise, and music will keep coming! Thank you for interviewing us!
My Pleasure! Best of luck for the future.

Weslynn is an indie band from Phoenix Arizona formed in 2013. The band started out playing coffee shops and cover shows and quickly started to form a fan base. In 2014 the band released their first EP entitled Dark Days. The band recently released their new EP this summer.
Weslynn is a new addition to my playlist but one I was quickly adding after hearing Strange Feelings. The band can easily be described as sunshine after a rain storm. Their feel good melodies and vocals combine to make music that anyone can enjoy. With guitar riffs that make you want to dance along combined with lyrics that you find yourself quickly singing along with this band is the ideal Indie band for your Summer playlist.

INTRODUCING // 29 JUL 2016
Weslynn “Strange Feelings” (Video Premiere)
Weslynn is an American emerging indie rock band formed by Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, Kevin Holmes and Adam Simons, who are currently based in Arizona.
The guys started their musical journey last year with the release of a first buzz single “What Went Wrong“, and now they’re back with their proper major debut single “Strange Feelings“.
The track is a catchy indie pop gem with a style that reminds somehow to other bands like Lawson or A R I Z O N A. The song was released via For Emily Records on July 8th.
The official music video directed by Cory Davis was premiered on Friday July 29th. It pays homage to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind while maintaining a carefree hippie, vibe.
“Strange Feelings” is expected to be included on the band’s upcoming music project “Black & Champagne“, which will be released later this year. - Ultimate Music
Feature - Alfitude
In this interview, we talk with Phoenix based Weslynn about their new project, their influences, and their preferences when it comes to listening to music.
Full Q&A as well as a stream of their video for “Strange Feelings” available below. You can also stream the single on Spotify.
Let’s dive a little deeper into You, the artist and your music. What attracted you to this genre(s) or style(s)?
The music you listen to has so much to do with the things you went through as a kid and the music you grew up listening to. That’s why it’s so easy to make friends at shows. We grew up listening to the best classic rock; The Rolling Stones, Queen, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, and even the king of pop Michael Jackson. It was the ripping guitar solos and melodic vocals that really shaped what we play today. There’s nothing like a good hook and a killer guitar solo in the same song.
How long have you been creating and sharing your music with the public?
Three years this August would be when we started playing under the band name Weslynn. Of course at that time we had a few home demos and cover songs on our Soundcloud page and shows consisted of playing to a few close friends and family.
Who or what influences your playing and/or writing? Also, what motivates you to keep going?
The same things that really attract us to the indie rock genre, but also a lot of themes from the 80s. The harmonies and guitars really reflect the style of classic rock with an 80s modern twist. We are motivated by the love to play music. We love to create. Even if we weren’t trying to create a career out of music we would still play for the love of it. There’s no feeling like being on stage and connecting with the crowd.
Were you trying to accomplish anything specific on this new project? Creatively or otherwise?
We were going for a more produced sound this time around. We wanted to create something that anyone and everyone can enjoy. Our goal is to be able to be played anywhere.
What was the last song you listened to?
Jared: The last song I listened to was ‘You &I’ by Colony House. They are just phenomenal. I would love to tour with them some day!
Which do you prefer? Vinyl? CDs? MP3s?
Jared: I think I honestly prefer CD’s just for the fact they carry the best quality in this list! Vinyl would be a very close second.
How about this one…. Do you prefer Spotify? Apple Music? Bandcamp? Or something else? Why?
We love Spotify. It’s so easy to share music with the people you know and playlists are easy to create and follow. They have a really good way of introducing new music into your life with a weekly curated playlist just for you. It’s really great.
Other than the digital era overwhelming us with access to an abundance of music, what are one or two of the biggest challenges you face when trying to attract listeners to your music?
We are fortunate enough not to have many challenges besides a saturated market. We try our best to bring everything to a positive light. Numbers aren’t everything, it’s about doing what you love an believing in what you create. If people like us, we are so excited to have you on this journey with us! If not, that’s okay!
Do you gig, tour or perform? Do you ever live stream? Where can music lovers see you live?
We play all over the Phoenix metropolitan area and we have done a few shows in CA, NV, and WA. We have done a few live streams via YouNow, but keep an eye out we will be doing more very soon! You can see us live at The Rebel Lounge on September 16th in Phoenix, AZ!
Where is the best place to connect with you online? Discover more of your music?
Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram are all great!
Any last thoughts? Shout outs? Words of wisdom?
A huge shout out to our label For Emily Records and our manager Ami Rogers for loving and supporting us through everything! - Mid Tennessee Music
I’m so excited to share the exclusive premiere of indie rock band Weslynn’s single “Strange Feelings.” It is the first single from Weslynn’s upcoming EP, soon to be released by For Emily Records.
“Strange Feelings” has a retro pop feel, while sounding like the perfect song for these hot summer days. It reminds me of the innocence of young love and what that evokes, expressed smoothly and sweetly by lead vocalist Jared Geyer.
Weslynn is based in Phoenix, AZ and are Jared Geyer (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard) Greg Olin (Guitar) Kevin Holmes (Drums) and Adam Simons (Guitar.) Weslynn was formed by longtime friends and Arizona State schoolmates in 2013. They draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, and Queen.
“Strange Feelings” will be available Friday, July 8th, and you can preview it today on SoundCloud below, then pick it up on iTunes. - Jilly Pop Music
Indie rock band Weslynn released the official music video for “Strange Feelings” today. It’s the catchy first single from their upcoming sophomore EP Black and Champagne, which will be released by For Emily Records on August 26th.
I grew up on MTV videos, when the first time you heard the song was when the video premiered. So it’s interesting for me to see the video after I’ve heard the song many times. It’s cool to see the scenario and story created and see the band’s personality. The video is quirky and fun and I hope you enjoy it.

Phoenix, AZ indie/pop/rock band Weslynn has released their new video “Black” from their 2016 EP Black + Champagne. It’s the second single – you can check out the video of the first single “Strange Feelings” and my exclusive premiere of the track.
“Black” is a slick and sexy track with the hook “I love it when you wear black.” Is it about the woman who gave them strange feelings? Or perhaps they have just met an alluring femme fatale. I really like the video – you never see her so she could be anyone you imagine.

In the mood for some catchy-as-hell pop with a retro vibe? Then give “Strange Feelings” – our brand new Track of the Day – a good old listen.
Having formed at Arizona State University in 2013, WESLYNN is made up of Jared Geyer (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard), Greg Olin (Guitar), Kevin Holmes (Drums) and Adam Simons (Guitar). Injected with foot-tapping choruses and an 80s, synth-heavy edge, “Strange Feelings” is the single Years & Years‘s lovechild would have made following a night spent with The Vamps and Joywride.
A clean-cut sound that’s certainly not for everyone, WESLYNN have made a good attempt at producing throwback pop – with a bridge that makes us want to listen to THIS on repeat. - One Stop Record Shop
WESLYNN are a band from Phoenix, Arizona. Jared Geyer, Greg Olin, Kevin Holmes and Adam Simons have just brought out an EP. With smooth vocals and riffs, BLACK + CHAMPAGNE has everything to be a successful pop release.
The EP opens with a track called IT GETS GOOD. A steady drum beat holds the song together and there’s an inspirational bridge. Soft chants of “it gets good” behind the main vocals gives off a real nice vibe.
The short guitar solo on BLACK is the highlight of the record, in my opinion. But overall the song is brilliant for radio.
Strings are brought in on NEW YORK MINUTE. This begins to take the EP down a slightly slower route. The beat is picked back up with RUSH. Once the chorus hits, you’ll just want to dance.
STRANGE FEELINGS is the final single on the EP. It’s also the band’s latest single. There’s a good build up to the chorus from the calm drum beat and riff. The little uses on synth bring back that dance feel too. I really like the lyrics and meaning that I found in this track. It’s easy to relate too, and that makes it even more catchy. - Shake The Amp
Weslynn, a Phoenix AZ based band, consist of Jared Geyer, Adam Simons, Greg Olin and Kevin Holmes. After releasing their first EP two years ago, they put out a new killer EP “Black + Champagne” We had the pleasure to talk to vocalist Jared Geyer, where we talk new EP, Eggs Benedict, and touring. Take a listen, and keep an eye out for big things to come from these dudes who play from their soul. And once again, thank you! Stoked to see you September 16th at the Rebel Lounge. All the love, Alex from ED.
Electric Daze: What influenced you when creating your new album called “Black + Champagne?”
Weslynn: For myself, a lot of these songs have come from recent life experience. The people who you surround yourself with have an obviously huge influence on your life. It’s been over 2 years since I married my wife, but the songs are just now coming out. These songs are really just a small glimpse of everything that’s happened in my life. These past couple years have given me at least 2 full albums worth of material. Of course, we collaborated with a producer, Dan Parker, who shaped these songs into what they are today.
ED: What do these last few months of 2016 bring for Weslynn?
W: We are looking forward to our show at the Rebel Lounge on September 16th and after that we are looking for touring opportunities in the west coast!
ED: How do you feel when you’re about to play a new song for the first time? Any chills?
W: There’s always a calm before the storm. There are always the doubts of whether or not people will like it, but I think you need to be confident in your music and what you create. No matter what other people think, I always write the music I love and it’s a part of my soul. I used to be terrified of being on stage and playing the music I wrote in my bedroom. I’ve thankfully (mostly) overcome that.
ED: I like asking silly questions, tell us a random fact about you or about the band?
W: Fun Fact: Greg hates breakfast food unless it’s Eggs Benedict.
ED: How do you think social media has played into your success as a band?
W: I definitely think it has helped us. We are so blessed to live in the age of connection. It’s easier than ever to reach fans. We love connecting and talking with everyone!
ED: Before we sign off, is there anything you’d like to say to your fans?
W: THANK YOU! Without you we are nothing. We promise it won’t be too long before more new music!
Thanks for interviewing us! We really appreciate it! Looking forward to seeing you at The Rebel Lounge! - Electric Daze Magazine
“Black” is a fun indie rock song by Arizona band Weslynn that combines clean bass lines with playful guitars and smooth indie pop vocals. The track is included in the band’s sophomore EP, Black and Champagne released this past August and produced by Dan Parker.

This amazing band from Pheonix, USA are releasing their great and catchy single ‘Black’ on March 10th!
The band are an Indie/Pop/Rock band made up of three great musicians, Jared Geyer (vocals/guitar/keyboard), Greg Olin (guitar) and Kevin Holmes (drums).
The band were founded in 2013, since then they have released two 5 track EP’s and two singles, ‘What Went Wrong’ and Strange Feelings’. The bands influences are Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Meyer and Queen.
Their official video for ‘Black’ is great, really loved it, perks about my job is I can watch it as many times as I want and just say it’s for work when in reality I just love the song. The video is filled with beautiful views and artistic/creative camera angles.
The song is great, it’s up beat and catchy, found it really easy to sing along. It reminded me a little of the sound you get from Maroon 5, also, you can really hear the influence of The Rolling Stones in their song, possibly the laid back yet rock on style they have going on, it’s great! Cant wait to hear more from the band in the future! - In-Tune

Last we met up with WESLYNN, Jared Geyer (Vocals/Guitar/Keyboard), Greg Olin (Guitar), and Kevin Holmes (Drums) were returning from a year-long hiatus; check out the WESLYNN feature on AZ Homegrown – New and Local Music.
WESLYNN had returned to the scene Fall 2016 to launch their new five track EP Black + Champagne, leading off with the single titled “Strange Feelings.” They were stoked about the quality and experience with the producer, “This last record we did with Dan Parker. He's awesome, he really took this album to a whole other level.”
Fast-forward to today, WESLYNN has just returned from their first West Coast tour. Tomorrow they will premiere their official music video for the single “Black” that was shot and directed by Cory Davis, Yellowbox Films. Davis helped to visually craft the sleek, sexy, and sensual edge for the mood that resonates from the song “Black.” - Tour Press Force
Firstly, introduce yourselves and tell us a little bit about the band and how you came to be?
Hey there! We are Jared Geyer (Vocals, Guitar, Keyboard) Greg Olin (Guitar) and Kevin Holmes (Drums). We have actually been best friends since high school, since we all grew up in the same part of town. Music was always a part of our friendship. It was just a matter of time before WESLYNN became a band.
What were you all up too prior to the band, was this always the chosen path or did you have other dreams and aspirations?
We have been playing music together in one way or another since we were about 16-17 years old. After years of trying a ton of different things, we decided to take it out for the world to hear and see. We can all agree that music was the only option for us. It has kept us close through everything we have collectively been through over the years.
Tell us about your latest EP and why our readers should check it out.
Our latest release “Black And Champagne” was a 2-year process for us. We really pushed ourselves as musicians, songwriters, and friends to make this EP the best it could be. A lot of personal tribulations occurred during this time which made the completion very special. Each song on the EP has a different meaning and sentiment to each of us. We are so proud of the final project.
Who would you say is the band’s main song writer or is it a group effort and where do you draw your inspiration lyrically and musically from?
Most of the material starts with Jared creating the structure of a song. He then brings it to Greg & Kevin to add some texture and take it to the next level. It’s a process that provides a lot of room for a song to grow and evolve.
As a band, what do you believe is your greatest achievement to date and why?
Collectively, we think that our greatest achievement has been being able to go to different cities, meeting fans and watching them sing lyrics back to us. It’s humbling to see complete strangers become attached to our music.
Have you ever come face to face with someone within the music scene who has left you awestruck and why?
We have been so honored to play with so many amazing bands on a local level, as well as playing with bigger acts, it never gets dull seeing other musicians rock out.
What do you enjoy most about touring?
For us, it’s being able to see entirely new places as best friends, trying new foods, and having awesome talks over a beer after the show.
If we were to head out to one of your live shows what can ourselves and others expect?
We always strive to incorporate new aspects into our live shows; whether it’s bringing some friends on stage who shred on a saxophone or a flute, or putting together a light show, or even playing our parts on different instruments. We love putting on a show that people will remember and cherish.
If you had one artist/band that you could go on tour with tomorrow who would it be and why?
We love the thought of being able to share a stage with The 1975. The live show that band puts on is something that we admire.
You can spend an hour with a musical icon living or dead, who would you pick, why and what would you speak about?
John Mayer. We have all been huge fans of his writing and music for years, but once he became a Snapchat legend, we realized how hilarious he is. We would love the opportunity to grab lunch with that man.
And finally and most importantly, is Die Hard a Christmas Movie?
Haha! We love this question. We actually had this discussion about 2 weeks ago, while on tour with our good friend David Dreas (who produced our debut EP in 2013). He is a strong advocate of Die Hard being considered a Christmas classic. After a heated debate on a tour bus on a snowy night somewhere in Utah, we can all agree that Die Hard may be the best Christmas movie of all time.
We just want to say thank you for taking the time to answer our questions.
Thank you so much for your time. It’s been our pleasure.

If you have yet to check out local Phoenix band Weslynn, you’re seriously missing out. The trio performed at hard rock café for Alt AZ 93.3’s battle of the bands for an opportunity to play in Barcelona.
Weslynn consists of singer, Jared Geyer; guitarist, Greg Olin and drummer, Kevin Holmes and have a sound similar to that of Augustana.
The trio unfortunately had a short set, but that didn’t change their always flawless performance. They kicked things off with their new upbeat single “What Went Wrong” then went into “Hello to Love” followed by “Poetry In Motion” both from their EP, Dark Days. Then they went into a beautifully done cover of Augustana’s “Steal Your Heart”. They finished with their song “Shining Night” also from their Dark Days EP. They kept the crowd smiling and dancing with them the entire set, and you can tell how much fun they have performing.
In the end, Weslynn came in a very close second in the battle of the bands, but their performance really stood out in the lineup of performers.
Weslynn will be performing at the Kick Ass Spring Concert hosted by The Blaze 1330 AM on April 2nd, and they are a performance you don’t want to miss out on. - COTMA
Although they have an EP and two singles, not many people have heard of the Phoenix-based rock band Weslynn. With their music on Spotify, iTunes, Soundcloud, and Youtube, they’re pretty easy to find once you’ve heard of them. Comprised of four members, Weslynn combines amazing vocals, piano, guitar, and percussion to create a sound that is so familiar – yet when prompted, it is almost impossible to think of any group or artist they sound exactly like. Their EP, Dark Days, came out in October of 2014, but they released a single called What Went Wrong this February. Also available on their Soundcloud is a cover of Chasing Cars that is one of the most unique renditions of that song that I have ever heard.
The boys!
The boys!
The title track on the EP, Dark Days, features a catchy tune and deep lyrics. The second track, Poetry in Motion, has powerful guitar chords and a tune that seems almost effortless for the group. Shining Night, the third track, is my personal favorite, starting with a slightly eerie piano melody before adding in drums and what sounds like a violin. The whole song sounds almost otherworldly, with smooth vocals that feature a bit of impressive falsetto. With the deep lyrics (“you can never win this war/my heart is in a bottle drifting ashore”) it is the kind of song that you would expect to hear as part of the soundtrack for a movie, or as the music for a professional dance routine. Simply put, Weslynn’s music is a unique kind of art form that is incomparable to any other band or artist. - Indientry

May 2015 yielded the final member to complete WESLYNN; Adam Simons (previously Radiodriveby). Shortly after his induction, the band released the single “What Went Wrong.” In a statement to Cronkite News at ASU they said, “Everything we have been through has brought us closer together.
They recorded a 5 song EP in spring of 2016 with producer Dan Parker; leading off with the single titled, “Strange Feelings.” They draw their inspiration from bands such as Augustana, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Queen, and classic pop rock bands.
