My life as a folk singer began in the fall of my seventh grade year at Sinclair Junior High School in Englewood, Colorado, when my math teacher, George Downing, brought his old D-28 Martin to class and played a folk song while we were taking a test. After class, I asked him if he would teach me to play "that song". He said, "Sure", and I started going to his house after school, and he taught me the song. That was 47 years ago. The song was Tom Paxton's "I Can't Help But Wonder Where I'm Bound".
As of today, I have traveled to 13 countries of the world, and have entertained hundreds of thousands of people.
At Littleton High School, classically trained vocalist and music teacher Russel Hillock, taught me to use my voice as an instrument and selected me as one of the Littleton Singers. I also began my musical theater career in High School as lead in two operettas; R.S.V.P. and Down In The Valley. Other musical theater roles have been the Tenor King in Amahl And The Night Visitors, Freddie Einsford Hill in My Fair Lady and the lead in Salad Daze, an English Musical Comedy. all during college.
In March of 1965, I moved from Colorado to Scottsdale, AZ and again, the high school music teacher, Joseph Eslie put me in "The Saw Mill Four", the house band at The Lumber Mill, Scottsdale's favorite Folk Night Club of the 60's. This was my professional debut, earning me a living performing with great artists including John Denver, Pat Paulson, Sarah Winter, and Richard and Jim. Jim was the World Champion banjo frailer of 1965!
Then, in the summer of 1966, the "Saw Mill Four" was chosen by USO to entertain the troops fighting the Vietnam war. We changed our name to "The Four Of Us" and off we went. After 92 shows in 81 days, performing for over 44,000 men and women in 9 countries of the Orient, I returned to the USA and became the headliner at a steakhouse and nightclub called "Reubens" in Scottsdale, Arizona. Having received a scholarship in Voice at Arizona State University, I sang in the Choral Union, the University Concert Choir, and was one of the 24 voice University Singers, under the direction of Dr. Kenneth Seip.
In the spring 1968 I accompanied Sarah Winter on another USO tour, this time to Alaska and back to the Orient. Together with Henry Thome, and Lesile Casterman, we entertained thousands of soldiers and government workers for 18 weeks.
In June of 1970 I became actively involved in the Jesus Movement in Hollywood, CA. In 1971, Son Light Creations released my first album, "Gonna Change Your Heart" which was recorded live at a concert at Hollywood Presbyterian Church, featuring "Larry Norman", and "The Love Song" and me...
In 1972 I married and became the father of two sons, Camron (1973 - 2001) and Travis (1975). During this time I recorded my second album "Uriah" and my family and I were the subject of a documentary film, "In The Son Again", depicting my life as a traveling evangelist and the reality of being "on the road for Jesus".
In December of 1981, the road had taken its toll and my wife filed for divorce. Ashamed and depressed, and I went back to entertaining in restaurants and lounges and eventually ended up in Aspen entertaining the ski crowd.
During this time, a song I had written, "Jesus Is Comin' Back To Stay", was recorded "live" by my friend Barry McGuire (The Eve of Destruction). The song went to #14 nationally on Contemporary Christian Radio.
In February of 1983 I married Valerie Pierce, whom I had met and dated in high school in Arizona. Working together, on what we think was an inspired idea, we took her existing sewing business in a new direction, and "ComforThings, Inc." became a leading manufacturer of hand made fabric Bible covers for women. For the next 13 years we worked to build our business and in the fall of 1997, after serving over 2800 national accounts, we both decided to take a much needed break and pursue other interests.
In 1999, we opened "The Tour Of The World Café" in Holyoke, Colorado and we had a great time feeding our friends. Then Valerie was asked to manage a horse breeding operation in Illinois, so in March of 2000 she went to Freeport, Illinois, and I stayed in Colorado and sold our restaurant.
I continued to sing and entertain around Colorado and following the unexpected death of my son Camron, in March of 2001, I moved to Illinois and from February 2002 to February 2003 I entertained in the Lounge at Beaches Supper Club in Lena, Illinois.
Returning to Colorado in 2003, I was asked by my niece Susan, to entertain the residents
