"T-Ran, RGLND, Adrian Per, & Duckworth – Clique(Remix)"

Kanye West, Jay-Z, & Big Sean’s song “Clique” has been making noise around the internet lately with its release last week but just like we did with the “Motto” remix, we had to put a bay twist to it. This time however, Adrian Per and RGLND are accompanied by Duckwrth & T-Ran as they rep for their cliques. These dudes work extremely hard as they rocked the crowd at Oaklandish last nite, only to go straight to the studio to record the song and shoot the video all in one night. Look for these four guys to continue making big noise on the bay music scene.

"T-Ran x Outside The Box: Still Dreaming (Mixtape)"

I usually test out my new music while I’m working out in the gym since it always the most downtime for me and my thought process seems to work the most. T-Ran released his latest project Outside The Box: Still Dreaming this past weekend and I could tell that determination, thought, and true emotion went into this project. For those of you who aren’t familiar with T-Ran as an artist he is an Oakland Bred rapper currently residing in Washington, D.C. where he is actively pursuing his career in music. He has recently opened for Big Sean at the New Parish in Oakland and set a high standard for upcoming artists that followed him. I have also had a chance to interview him in a previous post that you can check out here. His drive and determination is what makes him stand out as an artist and I have become an instant fan upon meeting him.

I love how Outside The Box: Still Dreaming tells real-life stories, it’s like I’m taking a trip through his thoughts. “Heart & Soul”, “Ohh Baby” and “I Need You” seems to appeal to his female audience but it picks back up with his dreams and aspirations as an artist with “Still Dreaming” and “By Any Means”.

T-Ran describes his inspiration behind this mixtape in his own words as, “chasing my dreams really asking myself is it worth it…meaning music. I was in a place of feeling like I was doing this all in vain because of how much I was puting in and not feeling like I was getting through. I was feeling like I was fighting a battle that was set up for me to lose. I’ve been rapping since I was 7, and as I continued to get better I was just feeling like I could lose my dream at anytime. But through it all I know that music is the only thing I could see me doing and thats where the “Still Dreaming” aspect came from. From me loving hip hop so much I could never give up on dream no matter what.”

So there you have it, regardless of your own circumstances we all have a dream and T-Ran truly shares his dream through this project. Take a listen. - REESA SPEAKS

"[Video] T-Ran, RGLND & Adrian Per – Ashley"

Ashley” is extremely different from the recent waves of music that have come from the Bay Area. The Bay Area’s recent spotlight came from a popular dance song. Therefore, with a song as bubbly and fun spirited as this it gives the listeners a better view of the Bay’s variety. Comprised of a very catchy hook and joyful visuals “Ashley” is golden. - LATINEGRAS

"A Hip, Hop And Away: T-Ran"

California native and up-and-coming artist Ta'Darrell Randolph, also known as, T-Ran, brings soul back to Hip-Hop through lyrics he describes as 'raw expression.' As the recipient of a full academic scholarship, T-Ran hauled across the country to attend Howard University in hopes to develop his candid lyrical tongue and expand his game-changing musical artistry.

For T-Ran, 22, his journey to Howard University began during a class exercise in the fifth grade when his teacher Mr. Richard Navies described Howard University to be ‘the black Harvard.’

He said, “[Mr. Navies] was telling me ‘Howard is the black Harvard and better… it is ours.’ From that point on I wanted to be at the ‘black Harvard’ because in America [Harvard] was the pinnacle of education.”

This spring, T-Ran will graduate with a B.A. in Radio Television and Film from the John H. Johnson School of Communications, and attributes his successes to Mr. Navies and his active participation with campus organizations.

As an on-air personality for the college radio station WHBC his freshman year, T-Ran interviewed and networked among artists like J.Cole.

“It was a place where I was able to see myself being in their position,” he said. “I was actually seeing these artists that we see in these big magazines. It helped me mold myself as an artist and visionary for I wanted to do.”

T-Ran has also been an executive board member on the Howard Transfer Student Association and has volunteered on the homecoming staff, Rhythm – all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA.

“I have to maximize my potential in every aspect of my education and goal,” he said. “I can’t take anything for granted.”

Of all his experiences, one of his fondest moments was his eye-catching performance at Howard homecoming amidst artists like Rick Ross – the threshold of his musical career on the East coast as the Oakland lyricist.

In March 2010, T-Ran dropped The Opening Act: The Dreamer, a mixtape with over 2,000 downloads.

“It was that tape that let the world know, ‘I am here and I can rap,’” he said.

Following, T-Ran pushed out his sophomore mixtape The Wonderful Experiment (a tribute to 9th Wonder) on Sept. 9 and most recently, Outside The Box: Still Dreaming – both of which display his passion to inspire global change through lyrics.

“Outside The Box: Still Dreaming was more of me maturing as a man and telling these stories in a more articulate fashion,” he said.

With four projects and counting, T-Ran is patiently awaiting the release of his forthcoming album Heart & Soul in 2012 where he will reveal his most sacred thoughts and emotions about love, culture and strength.

He said, “I don’t want to give [my fans] a quick fix, I want them addicted to my music.” - Wendy Ekua Quansah

"Rap Artist T-Ran Releases Second EP “Outside The Box: Still Dreaming”"

Hailing from East Oakland, Calif., home of legendary artist Too Short, T-Ran first became infatuated with hip hop at the age of seven through the movie “Krush Groove.” Influenced heavily by the likes of Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco, hip hop has served as the gateway to T-Ran’s dreams. He describes his music as raw emotion and expression; it is a pure reflection of him. “Never was a sand box kid used… that time to dream/ Knew the power of them before I knew of Dr. King/ Look now I am living one/ and I’mma live it up until my livings done,” T-Ran spits over “The Intro” track. At the age of 21, he wakes up every day with a musical mindset. He takes pride in being a lyricist who refuses to conform to society. T-Ran will continue to dream, believe and execute to change the unbalanced state of Hip Hop to an industry filled with love, passion and substance. - NOISEMAN

"Meet… the Artistically Talented, Hip Hop Rapper, T-Ran!"

Charli: How would you describe your entertainment/rapping style to an audience that has never seen or heard you perform and what can they expect?

T-Ran: They can expect a soulful experience…Good Music nonetheless. My music is very personal and its music I feel many people can relate to. One song I can talk about chasing my dreams and the next track can talk about feeling good or an obsession for Kicks. I want people to feel good after listening to my music or experience the same thing I experienced in that particular song. When I perform I want to bring the audience closer into my world and have them leave with a piece of me.... - charlidholbrook

"Who to Hear: T-Ran"

Nestled in the depths of SoundCloud is the 27-year-old Oakland native T-Ran's fourth "official" album, Dreams Don't Grow On Trees. ("Official," because he's removed the early albums he made while at Howard University from the internet because he's "grown and changed a lot since then.") The jazzy, 13-track conscious-rap record echoes T-Ran's past works with its socio-political focus and utilization of recordings from newscasts and speeches. Though T-Ran doesn't necessarily consider himself a political rapper — "I make honest music for people who are still dreaming of change and refusing to give up," he says — there are lots of historic and modern-day references in his music, like the Greensboro, N.C. sit-in of 1960; Rodney King and Oscar Grant; Emmett Till, who was lynched for flirting with a white woman; Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Oscar; the deaths of Sandra Bland and Trayvon Martin; and the repercussions of electing Donald Trump as president. And even though turning these heavy subjects into catchy earworms is a challenge, it's one that the rapper feels strongly about taking on. Says T-Ran: "I think the public thinks all Bay Area music sounds alike. Even when I was at school, people would ask if my music was hyphy. It's a stigmatism that we have and that's hard to shrug off when you're a different type of artist." - SF Weekly- Jessie Schiewe

Bio

The state of Hip Hop is at a turning point. With many artists attempting to take over the Internet with the next popular hook, very few are focusing on the soul of Hip Hop. As an upcoming artist, the Oakland, CA native T-Ran (born TaDarrell Randolph) plans to bring the essence back.

He first fell in love with Hip Hop at the age of 7. Raised by a single mother in the tough streets of Oakland, music became his best teacher, providing him with an outlet and with the tools to think critically. While his dream remains his biggest motivation, he is also influenced by the struggle, the substance and the authenticity of artists like Tupac, Lauryn Hill, Kanye West and Lupe Fiasco. These artists have helped shape him lyrically and have provided him with the foundation to find his voice.

T-Ran received well-deserved praise in front of a crowd as he opened for G.O.O.D Music recording artist Big Sean. In addition, T-Ran has also opened up for Pusha T of G.O.O.D Music, Kid Ink, and Rick Ross, Too $hort, Hieroglyphics, E-40, and  Dizzy Wright in addition to headlining his own shows in the Bay Area. . T-Ran also warmed the crowd at the Howard University Homecoming International Yard Festival and has performed at various other events including the Def Jam Talent Showcase, the Virgin Mega Store Show, the Howard University Resfest Dance Competition), Busboys & Poets and many other successful shows throughout the United States.

In addition to being an artist, T-Ran is also a graduate of Howard University, where he earned his degree in Radio, Television and Film.

He describes his music as raw emotion and expression; it is a pure reflection of him. "No more change in the well tired of wishing/ this year mama deserves a better christmas/ hip to the struggle paid attention/ took the long road made miles out of inches," T-Ran raps on "Same Ole." At the age of 27, he wakes up every day with a musical mindset. He takes pride in being a lyricist who refuses to conform to society. T-Ran will continue to dream, believe and execute to change the unbalanced state of Hip Hop to an industry filled with love, passion and substance.
