Second artist that was on play this weekend was Tokyo Bang Bang. I’ll be honest with everybody, this was my first time actually listening to her music. I’ve heard her name before around the music scene in Atlanta. I’m mad it took me this long to sit and give me music a listen.
Swimming through her soundcloud page, I found an artist who really will shock you if you attempt to judge her book by it’s cover. 5-songs in and I found an artist who is can flow seamlessly into several lanes. The song highlighted today, “Bang Bang” produced by fKi will make you think you’re about to get nothing but bars for the next few songs. Not the case. A little exploration and you’ll find that her sultry voice spreads smooth over mellow tracks like, “Elevated Nights” and “FITS” ft AvOlanche.
Still, the hip-hop head in me said, “let me hear that ‘Bang, Bang’ joint one more time.”

Bio
Tokyo Bangbang, born Reneé Lynn Jackson in Tokyo, Japan, found her love for entertainment at the young age of three. Tokyo’s first love was dance and though she wasn’t enlisted in dance classes as a child, she was still determined to become an entertainer. She gained most of her skill by watching music videos and imitating muses like Janet and Michael Jackson and later on was given the opportunity to formally learn hip hop, jazz, ballet, contemporary, and African dance. She knew that she too would one day be on stage in front of thousands performing.
As a self-trained performer, Tokyo sought opportunity everywhere to perfect her craft; be it singing, dancing or acting. By the time she was nine years old she found affirmation of her writing talent through the publication of one of her early works of poetry called Recognize. Not only was she getting poetry published at nine, she began to choreograph, and acting came shortly after. It wasn't until her collegiate journey in fashion design that illuminated her talent as an illustrator and graphic designer.
In 2010 one of Bangbang's’ illustrations caught the attention of an underground music group. From there she was commissioned for her first mixtape cover. Tokyo Bangbang has since been a figure behind the scenes as a creator of visual artwork for musicians like T.I., B.O.B, Young Dro, FKi, Stalley, Zuse and more.
Working among some of the industry’s biggest talents lit a fire in the born performer and she began working on music herself, taking her writing skills a step further. Tokyo Bangbang’s sound is a direct reflection of her mysterious, witty, and sultry personality. This distinct sound will be displayed in her debut oeuvre The Rising Sun; out now on Bandcamp and SoundCloud.
