"Rising Chicago band Twin Peaks stops by New Hot"

You all are also big advocates of the local music community. I want to know what you're listening to and what you recommend.

Connor Brodner: ...Also, The Boxers — they're some other young dudes that we're pretty good friends with and they just got off their first tour. - Jon Schober

"The Boxers fight their way to the top"

How often do you meet a group of guys who have played at the House of Blues before any of them have even turned 21?

A hidden gem in Chicago’s young music scene, The Boxers are definitely worth the $10 ticket for their show this Wednesday night at Lincoln Hall (2424 N Lincoln Ave; off the Fullerton stop). Please trust me on this one: their music – a blend of rock and indie with influences from artists such as Mac DeMarco and the Beatles – will quickly become a member of your “Most Played” playlist. While their music reflects their laid-back and carefree age, you still won’t believe just how old they really are.

The band consists of four members: Duncan Lee, Zach Bridgman, Terrence Kiser, and Vincent Pimental. The quad released their first full-length album, Manorisms, in 2013 right after they sold out their show at the Beat Kitchen in 2012.

We got a chance to hang out with Lee and Kiser from the band and talk about how the group got started, how their music has changed since the beginning, and everything in between.

Check out their page on Bandcamp.com and listen to Manorisms and their recordings from Live at the Treehouse. Standouts include “Keanu Reeves,” which features syncopated drum patterns and quieter guitar riffs, and “Sleep,” a much mellower tune that is slightly reminiscent of a 1950’s school dance.

Comment below and tell us what your favorite songs are. Don’t forget to like their page on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. Most importantly, go to their show this Wednesday at Lincoln Hall at 9 PM! - dominique cummuta

"keep yer eyes peeled: The Boxers"

Searching around on Facebook and music blogs doesn’t always give me a new band that I fall in love with, but recently, it did. The Boxers are yet another band from Chicago. Iif you are sensing a pattern, yes, they know Twin Peaks and The Orwells). “Lonely Luna” is their new single that expresses their influences such as The Strokes, The Beach Boys, and Deerhunter. The chord changes are melodic and fluid, with calming vocals to pair nicely with the instrumentals. While most bands today seem to be interested in making the most noise, The Boxers start with solid chord structures and clear lyrics, and then still bring the clamor.
The guys have played at Schuba’s Tavern, House of Blues Chicago, and even headlined a show at Lincoln Hall. With this new release, they also have an album coming out in November. I see a lot of potential in this young band from Chicago and what their new album will bring, especially with a great indicator from my first listen of “Lonely Luna.”

Bio

The Boxers are comprised of Duncan Lee (guitar/vox/keys), Vincent Pimentel (drums/vox), Terrence Kiser (guitar/vox), and Zach Bridgeman (bass), four 20-somethings who've known each other since going to high school together in Chicago. After a year or two of college, they ultimately decided that it would be in the best interest of everyone involved to drop out and pursue their passion for music. Besides getting down and groovy, the Boxers like jamming out, eating pizza, playing some beer pong every now and then, and just chilling with the boys. Their second album, The Blue Pool, is slated for release in January of 2015.
