"As old-school as thumbing through stacks of dusty vinyl, but modern as finding a download card inside, their sound sits somewhere in between Twee and R&B with echoes of a Garage Punk background." (February 11, 2013)

Bio
Southside Desire make original music influenced, but not limited by vintage soul, R&B and disco. Marvel Devitt recorded a cappela demos on her phone and sent them to local musician friends and family. In March of 2012, she assembled a rhythm section of Minneapolis scene vets (including her husband Trevor Engelbrektson) and a set of gifted backup singers. Marvel's detailed lyrics are simultaneously personal, insightful, funny and poetic. She is supported by meticulously-crafted harmonies and an expressive and tight rhythm section with a guitarist inspired equally by Bad Brains and Billy Strange.
"It's always a little jarring to hear music that expresses an emotion you've been trying to put into words for so long. Minneapolis band Southside Desire's new album Songs to Love and Die To, does just that. It is a reflection of life, introspective in the sense that it projects one thing and makes you feel another. The songs manage to be endearingly emotional, yet measured in portions by someone who is cautious to let others in." -City Pages
"So heres the record youve been looking for ever since you started asking why nobody writes good songs anymore; why bands dont cook like the Stax rhythm section anymore. You're going to love this record." -Hymie's Vintage Records
