Without even looking at their promo blurb, I'n here to tell you that this lot don't think that the '90s ever happened... and lo and behold, this was originally released in 1989 and is a remastered reissue. I've never heard of them and quite frankly that's a shame because this is a pretty damn immense album - despite the fact they strangely call themselves Progressive Rock?
10 tracks of straight ahead rock and metal that puts to shame more than a handful of established bands' work. Founded in '84 in Texas, USA, the band are without doubt influenced by a broad spectrum of bands that filtered through the '60s to the '80s, including everyone (I'd imagine) from Maiden to Kansas to Cheap Trick to Y&T and beyond - and I don't say those bands names lightly. They're fans of April Wine, Triumph and Montrose! C'mon, you already know they've got great taste...
David Valdez seamlessly shreds on the fretboard, never once overtaking the song - just merely enhancing an already catchy, classic rock sound. 'Flying High', 'Cruisin' On The Levee' and the VERY '80s sounding 'Breakaway' are highlights for me but this seems to change with every listen.
If you like your metal and rock from the '80s and think unquestionably that it was the best decade for music, you'll really enjoy this band and this album.
Can I say unnoticed classic?

'My Country' expresses what so many are afraid to remark - an accelerating anxiety about the national identity - then it clears the confusion with jaw-dropping guitar excursions.' - Akademia
"Sidewinder of Texas was formed in ’84 by guitarist David Valdez and drummer Paul Pederson. Sharing a common drive and passion for writing and arranging, the two paired up along with long time friend and bassist Rey Ybarra to form a rockin’ band that has developed its own unique Texas flavored style sound based on a variety of influences from the 60’s through the 80’s." - Jammerzine.com

Bio
Way down in the
Lone Star state of Texas along the Mexican border, on the southern tip of Texas
where one might envision the sun beaming down on crusty parched ground, where
the dust flies from an old beat up pickup truck barreling down a bumpy dirt
road with a couple of good ole boys in cowboy hats and boots listening to George
Strait blaring on the radio, where the terrain is dotted with green prickly cactus
and horned toads scamper aimlessly across the heated surface and where the only
escape from the blistering sun is a thorny mesquite tree next to an all but
dried up muddy cattle tank. Welcome to
the home of the rock and roll band, “Sidewinder
of Texas” (SoTx)! Sidewinder of Texas features Raul Garcia
– vocals, David Valdez - guitar & vocals, Rey Ybarra - bass & vocals,
and Paul Pederson - drums & vocals.
Influenced by music and artists over a broad era from the 60's through
the 90's, Sidewinder of Texas’ sound and style evolved into a unique
distinctive original blend of what they passionately refer to as “Texas style
Rock and Roll”. Their songs and lyrics cover the gamut ranging from love gone
bad to the current social and political state of the nation. Sidewinder of Texas has supported well known touring acts such as Loverboy, Dangerous Toyz, Cheap Trick, Kansas, Quiet Riot, Great White, Fran Cosmo (Boston), Slaughter, Ace Frehley, Dokken, Grahm Bonnet, Enuff Znuff, April Wine, Lynch Mob, & Kevin Fowler. So, lean back, sit back, or climb into whatever you're driving and give 'em a listen and crank it up!
