Scotty Mac

Born and raised in Amityville, Long Island, NY, Scotty Mac (real name Scott Snowden) has always been a long-time lover of music. He grew up listening to a wide range of artists and bands from many different genres; Michael Jackson, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Run-DMC, Kriss-Kross, Boyz II Men, Prince, just to name a few. However, his love of hip-hop culture and rap took precedent which began his journey of musicality.

When Mac was in the 10th grade, he was listening to his favorite music (hip-hop/rap) and decided he would try his luck at writing his own rhymes. In his spare time, he would jot down little things in his notebook and eventually put them together to make his first song that he would present to his poetry club in high school. After being told his rhymes were pretty good for just starting out, he kept at it with the hopes of doing something big later down the line. It would take a few years as Mac was very reluctant to show off his talent, but he later became a hype man for his friend and started to solidify his place on Long Island. Over a year later, he wrote and self-produced from his basement his first mixtape titled "Duly Noted" released in January 2015. This led to him performing his sets at shows in his hometown, eventually catching the eye of Gerald "Stigmata" Staugaitis of Down Island Creative Studios.

Mac expressed interest in doing things on a more professional level and began work on his first professional solo release. He stated that he didn't want his first pro level project to be something that showcased just one sound or one emotion but touched listeners in multiple ways. Therefore, he would aptly title it "The Get To Know Me EP" as a way to show off his talent in different styles and flows. Mac says "Music has always been an outlet for my emotions so I wanted my project to convey that message and inspire those who aren't sure how to do that." On his 30th birthday (May 18th, 2017), he released his full-length album titled “Devoted” which features his two singles “Moment of Silence” and “Live It Up”.

In addition to music, Mac is a holder of two Bachelor’s degrees; One from SUNY Geneseo in Black Studies and one from SUNY Empire State College in Historical Studies. In May of this year, he graduated with a Master’s of Science in Education from LIU Brooklyn and is also a special education teacher where he often uses his love of music to drive his instruction and entertain his students as well. He hopes his love of both education and music will inspire youth to go after their dreams and never be afraid to do so.
