Ryder is a DIY, driving rock band from New York City. They’re built around guitar tone and unique, deep lyrical phrasing. They’ve returned with Ryder Live, a new live record that gives the listener the feeling of being right up front at the railing.
“Sacrifice” opens up right in your face with the combination for guitar riffs and heavy hitting cymbals. Deep harmonizing backing vocals give a tough structure leading to a series of guitar solos that not only shows the musicianship but also doubles as a cool ending for the song. “Hard Time” puts the bass up front. The guitar and drums come in from the sides and enhance the buildup. A full on southern rock sounding track about getting the book thrown at you. The riffs are delivered in a way that makes this song impossible not to bob your head to. But don’t feel guilty. “Ash And Snow” is my personal favorite. The intro kicks in fast and has that race car feel. The guitar breakdown has a lighter, almost acoustic, feel but then the band kicks back in heavy. The song has an 80s feel to it and even has moments of a KISS nostalgia. With a cheer from the crowd, “Crash And Burn” takes off. This song has a much sleazier feel to it. Down and dirty guitar riffs with a more sped up drum beat that’s heavy on the kick. “When It All Comes Down” is slower but darker. A much angrier sound and gives you that feeling of getting a lashing. This is the kind of song I can see being played as a bunch of druids stand around an altar. “Last Ride” has a vibe all its own. The light strumming intro gives the feeling of reminiscing while the backing vocal harmonize with a soothing sound. But, when the full bands comes in there’s a harder edge. The lyrics speak of when you come to the realization that your time has arrived. “Do Or Die” is another track that puts the rhythm section up front. Deep bass strumming with hard hitting drums give this song a much more “pure metal” feel. I really like the guitar breakdown in particular because of the way the guitar and bass are intertwined. Anything that gets the crowd involved is a gold star in my book and “Slave To Love” does that. Fists in the air and hands clapping. The breaks that give the guitar its individual moments have a 70s feel but over a heavier and more modern sound. “LOA Club” has a Danzig feel that’s reminds me of “She Rides.” A deeper vocal delivery with moments of soothing, melodic tones. The heavy bass strumming comes through strong especially towards the end of the song with accents of guitar. If you like opening guitar solos that set a specific tone then “Unbound” is for you. A slow track that is highlighted by the power in the vocals. The instruments come across as more casual accoutrements in order to allow for such a strong vocal presence. The lyrics could easily be featured as an acapella track. “Lilan’s Lullaby” has been tearing it up for Ryder with the accompanying music video racking up the views. Strong storytelling of a love gone bad but that’s what allows you to connect deeply with the message being portrayed. Highlighted by a traditional guitar solo that enhances the track rather than overshadows it. “Is Rock N Roll Dead” is the final track and it poses an interesting question, is rock n roll dead? The fact is live music is what connects everyone. A CD or record can only give you so much and that’s where the live environment comes into play. This track makes you think while also showing of a purer style of guitar playing. Allow yourself to get lost in that feeling while answering that question. The album ends with an acoustic version of “Lilan’s Lullaby.” - Rock N Roll Junkie - Jay Oakley

You wanted it, you got it. Memorial Day 2019, Ryder returns to Rocklahoma to rock the Darkside Stage. See you in May, Darkside Stage 2019. - Ryder
Ryder I just had the opportunity to listen to their song "Last Ride"
The number of elements that this band has in their music is really cool. I was defiantly hearing a very rock element to it but also got some feelings of like a red dirt style as well. Those two blends together so well. Smooth vocals into some gravely singing and at times a dual vocal that combine so well. It's no wonder people are enjoying the music that they are creating. The solo in this song shreds but stays with the song and adds a very great element to it. If you haven't had a chance to check them out, you defiantly should by all means. Looking forward to hearing more from this band and was very glad to be asked to do a review for this song. - RedBeard TheHippy - Music Reviews
New single ‘Lilan’s Lullaby’, released on Bad Monkey Records, is the latest offering from Queens, New York hard rock band, Ryder. Also appearing on the EP is the track, ‘Satin Doll’.
Founded in 2016, Ryder are a united front, in their shared traditional hard-rock mission. Each component of the band fulfils that role, to perfection. They signed with BMR in 2021.
‘LL’ follows previous EP, ‘For What It’s Worth’, a compilation of live originals. Amongst the numerous venues Ryder have performed in are LA’s Whiskey A Go-Go, New York’s Gramercy Theatre, New Jersey’s Wellmont Theatre and the 2018 and 2019 Rocklahoma Festival.
Their debut studio album, ‘Killer Karma’ was produced by Anthony Esposito (Lynch Mob/Ace Frehley/Jake E. Lee’s Red Dragon Cartel) at Obscenic Arts Studio, Dillsbury, PA. Launched in August 2020, ‘KK’ gathered instant acclaim, with its impassioned hard rock sound. Influenced by the classics, Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, etc, these sounds are all integral to Ryder’s music.
‘LL’ is now available, via all digital platforms. It comes ahead of the follow up 4 track ‘Don’t Think Twice’.
Lilan’s Lullaby – Darkly haunting riff intro, emerging from the shadows, from a velvet mystery, into a gritty, powerful, yet fragile sound, reaching your soul and hitting the spot, straight away. Groove-filled melodies play with teasing lyrics and such evocative imagery. Real catch and true hooks, right to the end, delivered with absolute conviction and seduction. That’s an instant hit, fitting right into the hard rock, blues and soul rock spectrums, making you hang on every word.
Satin Doll – Speeding it up, from the outset, with a faster pace and a similar heavy blues rock refrain. Great vocal harmonies, harking back to the golden age of classic rock. Immediate impact, stacked with high-class melodies and more of that tempting riffage. You could just fall into this and never leave. Brilliantly perfected definitive end.
Overall – Classic rock magic, with a hypnotic blues and soul feel, conveyed with mesmerising sensuality, ‘LL’ reels you in, hooks you and captivates you, completely. Demanding your attention, in the sexiest way, it’s a diamond, amongst the rocks. One listen and ‘LL’ is a sensuous addiction. Love, at first listen.

Tracklist:
Sacrificed In Vain
Unbound
Last Ride
Ash And Snow
This is a killer Hard Rock record from the get-go. “Sacrificed In Vain” opens with a heavy, bluesy riff and a bombastic rhythm. The vocals are a bit dirty and gritty, giving the voice a lot of texture and blending it into the guitar beautifully. The chugging rhythm is well done, moderately paced, and has excellent tonal quality. The tones leading into the solo fit the overall vibe of the song, and the speed of it is perfect, not too fast, not too slow.
“Unbound” has a touch of Sludge to it. The opening riff almost oozes out of the speakers. The drums shift from full to muted and back, depending on where they are in the song. The bass and guitar are in perfect time with each other, creating a wave of sound that just washes over you. The solo is again melodic and fits the tone of the song well. James has a really powerful voice and uses it to maximum effect. The backing vocals at the end really add a kick to the vocals.
The slower version of Ryder is heard on “Last Ride.” This song is definitely one to pay attention to. The build from verse to chorus, the bridge with the guitar solo, all of it is artfully done. The writing and performance of this song are beautifully executed. Adding in spoken word puts another wrinkle into the composition, showing Ryder knows how to put a song with multiple elements together. The heavy cymbal crashed, and the slow counts on the high hat all harken back to some of the best Classic Rock songs of yesteryear, bringing awesome memories back to mind.
“Ash And Snow” is a song with a killer groove. Again, the vibe is Classic Rock, feeling like a bit of history with modern production. The backing vocals on this one are excellent, harmonizing beautifully with each other and the lead voice. The bass lead that ushers in the guitar solo are a nice touch, giving the rhythm section some love.
Ryder definitely feels like an old soul in a modern world. They don’t have a sound like any of the major 70s bands, but they have the feel. Some bands that try the throwback sound get compared, justly or not, to some of their influences. Kingdom Come in the late 80s and Greta Van Fleet more recently are perfect examples, but Ryder avoids that by taking a different route. Instead of highlighting one significant influence, they pay homage to them all without coming across as a copy or tribute band. They have an entirely original take on the Classic Rock sound, making them stand out among their peers.

ALBUM REVIEW:
The album was recorded live at Lucky 13 Saloon
in Brooklyn, NY. This 13 track album is bursting
with live energy, yet still retains a refined and
precise overall sound. The Band members are:
James Ryder (Guitars / Vocals) , Andrew Bloch
(Guitar / Backing Vocals), Erik Unkrich (Bass
Guitar/ Backing Vocals) and Billy Smith (Drums)
Ryder has a classic rock / metal and even
possibly blues influence that they use to create
their own sound in a refreshing way. Their
music is filled with thumping bass, booming
drums, heavy hitting riffs, solos, and melodic,
powerful vocals. Crowd interaction is displayed
throughout the album with songs like "When It
All Comes Down" where chanting from the crowd
is highlighted. This makes you feel like you are
a part of the show and adds to the atmosphere
of the album so that it feels like a live concert
experience.
One of my Favorite tracks was "Lilan's Lullaby
(Acoustic)" . The song wraps up the album very
well. With Earl Maneein on the violin, it adds a
whole different ambience to the song, filling the
background with pleasing and harmonic stringed
sounds. With this being the only Acoustic song
on the album, I think it really shines and is a
perfect end to the album! Overall Ryder covers
Blues, Rock, Classic Metal and Acoustic sounds
in their album that I think you will really enjoy! Be
ready for the full length to drop this spring, you
won't wanna miss it!
The Album will also have a Japanese
Release with a bonus track distributed by
@badmonkeyrecords and partnered with
@topmusicjapan

Southbound is the first single off of Ryder's upcoming album Menagerie. It was recorded at Phantom Studio and is the first release to be self produced by the band.
What I really love about this track is that it is my sort of rock song, lots of face melting guitars, loud drums and a singer with a killer voice.
I get so many awesome classic rock vibes from this song that you don't hear too often now-a-days, if I close my eyes while listening to it, I can see a crowd jumping around from start to finish, I can see lots of high energy and hair getting whipped around.
The guitars from start to finish are fantastically raunchy, James and Max sound like they are so in tune with each other that the guitars are just seamless.
I would love to hear this live as I just know there would be such an amazing atmosphere.
Make sure you check these guys out now!! - Suzy King
Ryder's new single ‘Southbound’, the first track released from their upcoming album ‘Menagerie’, delivers a full-throttle blast of hard rock energy that'll have you reaching shamelessly for your air guitar. Recorded at Phantom Studio, this marks the band's first self-produced release, and it's a statement of intent that showcases their raw talent and undeniable passion for classic rock.
From the moment the track kicks in, you're hit with a wall of sound. The guitars are absolutely ferocious, with James and Max's riffs intertwining seamlessly to create a truly exhilarating experience. It's the kind of face-melting guitar work that immediately transports you back to the golden age of rock, where bands like Led Zeppelin and AC/DC ruled the airwaves. The driving rhythm section provides the perfect foundation for this sonic assault, with the drums pounding relentlessly and the bass locking in to create a groove that's impossible to resist.
James Ryder's vocals are another highlight. He possesses a powerful and gritty voice that perfectly complements the music's raw energy. You can hear the passion and determination in every note, and it's clear that he's a frontman who thrives on connecting with his audience.
‘Southbound’ is a song that demands to be played live. You can practically feel the energy and excitement that it would generate in a packed club, with the crowd jumping and headbanging from start to finish. It's the kind of track that reminds you just how powerful and exhilarating rock music can be.
If you're a fan of classic rock with a modern edge, then you need to check out Ryder. ‘Southbound’ is an absolute banger of a track that leaves you wanting more. With their upcoming album on the horizon, Ryder is definitely a band to watch out for in the coming months. - Broken 8 Records
New York City’s hard rock outfit Ryder is back with their latest single, Southbound, delivering an explosive dose of high-energy rock that captures the essence of what hard rock should be. The band, known for their gritty sound and powerful live performances, takes listeners on a ride through their signature hard-hitting riffs, pounding rhythms, and gritty vocals.
Southbound kicks off with a driving guitar riff that immediately grabs attention, setting the tone for the rest of the track. The energy is relentless, with drummer Nick Bavaro pounding beats and bassist Rod Viquez steady rhythm laying a strong foundation for lead guitarist Max Knight scorching solos. Frontman and vocalist James Ryder brings an edge to the song with his commanding voice, his delivery raw and passionate, echoing the song’s themes of freedom, rebellion, and the open road.
Lyrically, Southbound channels a sense of wanderlust and the yearning for escape, with Ryder singing about hitting the road and leaving everything behind. It’s the kind of anthem that resonates with anyone who has felt the need to break free and carve their own path. The chorus is infectious, with the kind of catchy hooks that will have fans singing along in no time.
The track’s production is clean yet raw, highlighting Ryder’s ability to combine polished sound with the rough, unfiltered energy that defines their style. Guitar tones are crisp and powerful, the rhythm section thunders in the background, and the overall feel of the track is one of a band at the peak of their musical prowess.
What sets Southbound apart is its balance between high-octane rock and the emotional depth of its lyrics. It’s a song that moves fast and hard but also invites reflection on the pursuit of personal freedom and the open road. The track showcases Ryder’s ability to deliver both musically and lyrically, making it one of their strongest releases to date.
If you’re a fan of hard rock with a classic edge and a modern twist, Southbound is a track you won’t want to miss. Ryder continues to solidify their place in the hard rock scene with this powerful, adrenaline-pumping anthem. With this release, they’re ready to take the stage and continue their ascent as one of NYC’s most electrifying bands. - Halina Wegner
This week, the world has been irreversibly changed by an absolute monster from Queens, New York. Obviously, I’m talking about Southbound - the new single from hard rock quartet Ryder. The first single from their upcoming album, Menagerie, Southbound is a launch pad for what is set to be a rocket of an album.
The song has a strong Motorhead feel, front man and rhythm guitarist James Ryder evoking Lemmy’s Jack Daniels soaked vocal chords. Max Knight provides a mid song solo which is a volcano of classic rock. The band’s rhythm section of Rod Viquez on bass and Nick Bavaro on drums provides a delicious foot tapping groove which bleeds throughout the song, like a ribbon of raspberry sauce in raspberry ripple ice cream. Southbound is a pure rock injection, a blend of classic favourites from the past and a modern rock attitude which makes Ryder a band to watch in 2025.
The band have been together since 2016, their upcoming album Menagerie is due in 2025, recorded at Phantom Studios in Long Island, New York. Ryder are constantly on the road, so check them out when they’re in your neck of the woods.
[9/10] - Brett
Desde el inicio, «The weight of the world is on my shoulders, feeling drained of youth and growing older», nos invitan a conectar con ese deseo de romper las cadenas y buscar algo nuevo.
Escucha y Sigue a Ryder
- Oliver Zurita
LOVED that callout that brought the track to my ears!
The guitar sound that kicked us off did well to set the tone before being treated to some gritty goodness as the vocals made their appearance.
It was nice to hear a song that didn’t try to hard and just embraced its hard rock roots. We had some classy harmonics just after the two minute mark – which accentuated the quality of the guitar playing in my eyes – bringing the solo to a close.
I thought it was all well structured … it had that GnR style hard rocking groove about it and a strong, singable chorus which, I bet everyone will be singing along to by the end of the first listen… even if it’s just the woah oh parts.
I reckon this would make a killer addition to a movie soundtrack – like if they make another Terminator movie or something and think it’d have any crowd rocking along in a live setting.
Definitely some beastly goodness! - Keep It Rock
modern rock to create something that feels both familiar and innovative.
From the first notes, it is clear that Ryder know exactly what sort of band they are. They wear their influences on their sleeve, while aiming to inject their own modern take on the genre. Southbound stands up to repeated to listens because it is hook laden, intense and most of all, fun. Fans of Aerosmith, Thin Lizzy, Guns n’ Roses, Van Halen and AC/DC will find much to enjoy here. Music serves many purposes and sometimes that should be to make you sing along, punch the air and just have a bloody good time. Southbound fulfils each of these requirements with ease.
Southbound is out now. - Hotel Hobbies

Formed in 2016, the group has left its mark throughout North America before being signed in 2021 by UK-based record label, Bad Monkey Records. Ryder utilizes their brand of natural classic rock vibes, to throw down in front of a modern crowd. Lead singer & guitarist, James Ryder, reminds us what determination, passion, and the spirit of rock means. James' vocals are capricious and ungovernable, while his Guitar skills are classically hard. Rod Viquez's effortlessly deep, thunderous Bass tones resonate with audiences. Nick Bavaro fuses precision with rebellion on drums to create a monstrous, bombastic sound. Guitarist, Max Knight, rounds out the band by weaving long-sought, magically untouched, musical threads that turn Ryder into a single unifying force of pure molten rock. Ryder gives their all to live audiences with their authentically heavy sound. Ryder has played at some of the most iconic venues in the United States like LA's Whiskey A-Go-Go, NY's Gramercy Theater, NJ's Wellmont Theater, and the 2018 & 2019 Rocklahoma Festival. The group leaves a lasting impression on these audiences, with music that leaves you wanting more. Ryder is set to bring back the nostalgic memories that only rock concerts provide. With a mix of modern and classic rock vibes, Ryder takes their live concerts to the next level. The group's style pays respect to bands prior. National acts like Thin Lizzy, Aerosmith, and Black Sabbath, inspire Ryder's vibe while incorporating their own modern twists. Ryder's first EP, What It's Worth, released in 2018, is a live compilation of original songs, that showcase the member's natural abilities. The group's first studio album, Killer Karma, came to life at Obscenic Arts Studio in Dillsburg, PA with Anthony Esposito (Lynch Mob/Ace Frehley/Red Dragon Cartel) at the helm. Released in August 2020, it has already caught the attention of fans across the world with its classic yet contemporary sound. Killer Karma fills the gap of what's been sorely missed in the hard rock scene lately. In 2022, Ryder released the single, Lilan's Lullaby, which has received over 300,000 views on YouTube. Ryder followed up by releasing Don't Think Twice, an EP, the same year (2022). Don't Think Twice showcases the group's next evolution in sound. These tracks bring back those classic hard rocking vibes with depth and a darker tone. Currently, Ryder is writing their next full-length album, sure to shake up the industry with their radiating, hard-hitting, works of art. In addition, this foursome recently released their new LIVE album, in commemoration of the 5th anniversary of their first live album release.Â
