Today we’d like to introduce you to PoetrE26.
Hi PoetrE26, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
It all started with a hope and a dream. I’ve been writing poetry since I was 12 years old because I felt, at the time, it was only escape and the only outlet I had. Music has always been a part of my life. I’ve been singing since the age of four, grew up in the church singing, I sing to keep myself mentally sane. At the same time, I couldn’t let poetry go! It gives me a voice, a release, a rest, whatever I need. Just like singing.
It took some time for me to understand I didn’t have to give up one for the other. That’s how I got where I am today. From poetry to R&B, I deliver a unique style to slow tempo-ed melodies with picture paintings wordplay. I am PoetrE26.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing has been a smooth road since I started! Lol, it’s like, as soon as you take the first step, something causes you to take a detour. From Covid-19 to the mandated lockdowns, it made things nearly impossible to even begin. Along with the added stress of financial issues and just day to day life. The only different was, I didn’t throw in the towel this time around. I was faced with the fact that I didn’t like my job, but I was great at it. I was comfortable. And I know once you’re comfortable somewhere, you’re no longer growing. I’m not ok with not growing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a poet, singer-songwriter that writes with both infused. I’m known for my lyrics to be poetic and having poetry in my music and my own style makes me unique and sets me apart from most artists. I provide relaxing smooth vibes with heart-felt poetry you can wine down to on any day and time. I am most proud of my loyal fans. They give me strength and positive growth and encourage me to keep going.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m not really into apps and blogs and other stuff. I do read some interviews or documentaries (real-life events), and I have become a frequent visitor to Woman Evolve with Sarah Jakes Roberts. I felt like she’s cool and relatable.

Who is PoetrE26?
“Give love to anyone who that lacks it, with hopes they spread love as a reaction.”
Ebony S. Mathis, known professionally as PoetrE26, was born on January 26, 1990, in Miami, FL. Born the oldest of five siblings, she rarely had time to find her individuality. It was at the young age of 4, when her aunt and mother discovered her vocal abilities. Soon after, her mother placed her in the church’s youth choir, where she began developing her voice. While singing gospel, PoetrE26 was introduced to other genres through close family members and instantly became hooked on the emotional rollercoasters delivered from R&B, Soul, and Jazz. At 12 years old, PoetrE26 began writing poems and songs as an outlet to stay away from the rough streets of Miami, FL.
