The Boston based group Mutual Friends is the living room pet project of writers Michelle Mouw and Casey Greenleaf. Their work is best described as an Autumnal, schoolyard tussle with the oddity of morphing into an adult in a world on fire while still enamored with it all, climbing mountains and screaming at passing cars. Mouw and Greenleaf's Sopranos balance each other with an almost eerily well matched timbre, converging in an out of an etherial unison, giving way to keening, lengthy harmonies. Their electric and acoustic guitar driven sound toes the line between surfer rock and beatnik-ish coffeehouse, is curious while remaining familiar, waxes playfully philosophical, and remains sorrowful without ever losing hope.
