Jewish-American songwriter and UTEP math professor Larry Lesser premiered his song, “Break,” which he wrote 10 years ago. The word break had multiple meanings, including breaking stereotypes about cultures and breaking bread together. Originally, the song was written for guitar, but Lesser said Layali Al-Sham and the guest musicians build music around it, creating a breathtaking version of his work. “Having a 20-person ensemble perform your song – there’s nothing like that,” Lesser said. “And having time like this with Layale and Hannah was a very inspiring and humanizing experience.” - El Paso Inc.
