Karass

Chicago alternative rock band Karass (kuh-RASS) is creating space for their younger selves with their breakout into the local scene. The group blends a myriad of sounds from their early days in music including post-punk influences blended with a hint of Midwest emo nostalgia. Their writing is influenced by the emotive essence of The Smashing Pumpkins and heavy instrumental complexities of Muse. Together, the band maintains a balance of airy melodies reminiscent of indie rock band Peach Pit. Built from a pensive, intentional foundation, Karass creates their sound with a dynamic nature, balancing a melodic feel with a gritty edge. 

Karass is the sum of its parts; having formed in November of 2021, this dynamic group of people came together from vastly different backgrounds. The group’s unwavering love for one another shines through their music, stage presence, and overall spirit. The energy of their live performances absorbs entire venues and creates space for friends to laugh, sing, dance, or cry, all while knowing at least one other person in the room feels the exact same way. Karass has performed on multiple bills with local Chicago bands at venues including Subterranean, The Cubby Bear, Brudder’s Bar, and more. The group aims to continue expanding their presence across more iconic venues both in and out of Chicago. 

Karass is due to release their debut EP in early 2025 – although the group is not new to the Chicago scene, they are ready to finally share their written passions. As each member acquaints themselves with the beginning of their adult lives, they plan to continue creating sounds and space for their people to enjoy and for others to find a home in for themselves.
