Nobody has made a category for Tucson’s Jimmy Carr and the Awkward Moments who have been confusing listeners at Fourth Avenue and Congress Street venues for a few years. Carr is the first thing you see, standing on a hollow wooden “stomp box” he pounds with his feet in rhythm while playing accordion and singing(sometimes through a fuzzy sounding electric megaphone screwed to the top of his accordion). Then there’s the guy playing the saw, the guy in the sanitation worker’s green coveralls playing bass lines on a white sousaphone, another guy playing a miniature trumpet with one hand and an upright piano with the other. There may be a guitar in the mix, as well as a giant marching bass drum. And they’re good, really good, and unlike anything else you’ll hear, unless Tom Waits is in town and is in really good form. – Dan Sorenson, Arizona Daily Star - Arizona Daily Star
