"Jamine Shakur a Wavy Vibe"

Jamine Shakur | ‘Keep Yo Soul’, Expressive Lyrics, Wavy Vibe
January 5, 2021 Posted by Mackenzie Jerks Blogs, Under The Radar

St. Louis native Jamine Shakur proves he is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry with the wavy track “Keep Yo Soul.” The music video has already amassed an impressive 7,000+ views on Youtube, proving just how catchy the track is. We had a chance to catch up with Jamine Shakur to ask him what inspired his creativity and soulful lyrics.

“[I wanted] to make something real yet family-oriented.” – Jamine Shakur
Jamine Shakur has been in the music game for about eight years, but he refuses to fall into temporary industry trends. Instead, he would rather stay in his own lane, which is something he expresses in “Keep Yo Soul.” Throughout “Keep Yo Soul,” he describes the numerous lessons he’s learned and words of advice his family has given him about staying true to yourself. The emerging artist raps over a chill, R&B-inspired beat that is sure to captivate any listener, and especially those who need a little inspiration to stay true to themselves despite the world’s drama.

Although the track dropped seven months ago, there’s no doubt it deserves even more attention than it’s already received. Jamine Shakur’s voice shares a noticeable similarity to Grammy-winning artist Lil Wayne’s unique voice. Simultaneously, the consistency of truthful bars supported by a smooth flow is comparable to the Atlanta-bred rapper 6lack.

“I can spot the foolery, fidgety type of energy. See the way you’re using me. Imma start using you. Catch me in the booth, yeah I’m dropping bars, but I’m spilling truth.”
Right from the beginning of the track, Jamine Shakur and featured artist Chris Duncanson hook the listener in with a catchy chorus. Through the remainder of the song, Jamine Shakur raps in several different flows, which has you questioning just how many artists are involved in the track. Jamine Shakur draws attention to everything from his hometown to his appreciation for his parents while effortlessly switching from rapping to singing. It’s inevitable that you will quickly sink into the relaxing yet inspiring tone of the four-minute song.

The multi-dimensional artist’s rap name is just as unique as his flow throughout the song. Jamine was drawn from his birth given middle name. On the other hand, he drew inspiration for Shakur from the well-known social activist in the 1970s, Assata Shakur. In Arabic, Shakur means “the thankful one.” It’s evident that Jamine Shakur draws inspiration from the meaning behind his rap name, as he expresses how thankful he is for everything in his life that developed him on the track “Keep Yo Soul.”

"Jamine Shakur- Multifaceted Artist Striving to Shine"

Written by: Julz Mancini

Today’s independent music scene is densely filled with passionate artists whom utilize hip-hop to express themselves while appealing to their target audiences. It is seldom I come across an artist who possesses the ability to play multiple instruments, produce, and engineer. To truly stand out in the music industry, it is imperative to convey a uniqueness that results in a demand for your presence.
Jamine Shakur, an eclectic musician, grew up in the church where he acquired a lengthy skill set that later molded him into the artist he is today. Growing a love for gospel music, Jamine thrived in this environment as he learned to play the bass, piano, organ, and drums. Jamine states, “You name it, I can play it.” With the skills he acquired over time, Jamine eventually grew a passion for hip-hop music.
Hip hop invited Jamine into the world of production and engineering. Learning to produce and engineer his own music came naturally as he had already accrued the capability to create music with instruments. After succeeding in mastering these areas, Jamine went on to release three projects; “Good Vibes” tape 1&2 (2017), “Jammify” (2018), and “Ridin 4 Me” featuring Mick Jenkins in 2019.
During 2020, when many may have felt a lack of desire to create music due to the pandemic, Jamine Shakur maintained his focus. He went on to release “Mission” and “Spend the Night”. Jamine spews positivity through his music, a necessary vibe during such difficult times.
“Notice my energy. I come with harder bars than penitentiary. Yeah you got bravery. I got the talent, drive, and the cadences.”
While listening to “Mission”, I couldn’t help but move in my seat. The hook is simple and catchy allowing the listener to repeat the lyrics, a necessity in my opinion. Jamine comes with witty word play, amazing delivery, and a new school vibe.
“Spend the Night” has a laid back feeling, transforming the listener’s mood instantaneously. This song portrays his versatility as he showcases some vocal ability. It is apparent that this artist has the ability to develop several different sounds making it obvious that he is a force to be reckoned with.
“Only trees blowing that agony. Gotta be tryna’ set myself free. Paranoia like I’m back on a bean. Got the toy with me that be my peace. Wanted love, yeah the street gave me keys.”
Jamine Shakur is currently working diligently on his next project titled, “Black lcarus” which is set to be released this year. With the talents he displays, his fans apprehensively await his next project. Jamine has the ability to surprise his audience with every release due to his eclectic and seasoned ear for music. Bio

Gabriel Jamine Brooks also better known as Jamine Shakur was born in Greenwood Mississippi to the parents of John and Olivia Brooks. He is the youngest of 5 siblings staying in a shotgun 2 bedroom house on Hunter Alley. Seeing his family financially struggle early in life created a spark in his heart to make a way through music. Growing up in a strong christian background really how Jamine developed his sound that he carries today. Starting on the drum set at age 10 playing for the church. He eventually transitioned to the bass once he went to college without his drum set. Playing in a band from churches to lounges helped him to understand the depth of the music. Developing more skills on the piano and organ. In college, he found himself in different suites rapping and laying down tracks almost everyday. He even bought his first mic to start recording himself, loving music so much he switched his major to be a music composition and recording arts student. NOW! This is where the magic starts! Already realizing how advanced the other students were on instruments and vocals he deep dived into the recording studio learning Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton and different plugins like waves, and of course how to mix and master. Eventually he dropped out pursuing music full time.
