J Guiness

Jackson, Michigan isn’t known for its contributions to hip hop, but J. Guiness wants to change that. The young emcee had an unlikely start singing in church alongside his brother before discovering his calling. That defining moment came when he received a copy of Nas’s Illmatic album, which solidified his choice to become an artist. Now, J. is steadily working to build a following that reaches far outside his small-town beginnings with a goal of touching the world.

His lyrical style, described as melodic at times, is due in part to diverse musical influences from artists such as Kanye West, Michael Jackson, Tribe Called Quest, Jim Morrison and John Lennon. His catalog of music shows his artistic progression and growth as an emcee. He released his debut mixtape in 2011, The Trip to BS, followed by his Experience EP in 2012. In 2014 he kept the music flowing with the release of The Guiness Show EP and New Vendetta LP. Recently, he signed with Atlanta’s Heavy Records where he is preparing to bring his ever-evolving lyrics and style to a new legion of rap enthusiasts.
