Isistren is an all-female reggae band whose international mix of cultures, styes and languages fuse a unique and soulful sound that is grounded in roots music.
From songs of political upheaval and social struggle to conscious evolution and love, Isistren brings the message of feminine wisdom through original music, juicy, melodic dubs and groovy riddims geared to make your body move and your spirit groove. They take music to new level of receivership, using dubs and chants as vehicles for transcendance.
Isistren is composed of Maria Carolina Bowen, Lori Sue (DrummieSue) Hale, Rhapsody Khammar and Anne Marie Pizarro. Members of this band have been together for over 14+ years and share the common bonds of motherhood, musicianship and the spirit of Rastafari which weaves its influence through the music.
Influenced by Reggae Greats such as Bob Marley & The Wailers, Culture, Burning Spear and Steel Pulse, this band has also been impacted by women such as Marcia Griffin (original I-Three's), Queen Ifrica, Jah9 as well as Sister Nancy. By combining conscious lyrics, hypnotic melodies and attention to current events, Isistren brings the feminine perspective to Reggae and injects it flavor, finesse and fun.
