The East Coast spitter describes his sound as “hyped and energetic.” He states, “It depends on the type of song that I’m coming out with. Because it could be sad, it could be happy. It could be a number of different things, depending on what type of song I’m making.”

On his buzzing single, “Henny No Chaser,” Iceman D.B.H. showcases his ability to create hard-hitting records, dropping braggadocious bars while reminding audiences all around the world that he’s up next. Most recently, he followed it up with his newest single titled “Mindset,” another club banger that will have you turning up no matter what the occasion.

Sheen spoke with Iceman D.B.H. during one day in Los Angeles, who was rocking a dark green Essentials sweatsuit and chains. Read below as we discuss his upbringing in Brooklyn, when he fell in love with music, his name, “Henny No Chaser,” starting his own label, being managed by Lil Webbie and Boosie, goals, and more!

For those who don’t know who is Iceman DBH? How would you describe yourself? Iceman

I’m a laid-back person. Calm, adventurous. Open-minded, charismatic, energetic. Business-oriented. All that and more.

Being from Brooklyn, what was that like growing up?

Growing up, it was pretty chaotic. It was fun. I had fun growing up, but there was a lot of stuff going on. I was never bored, a day in Brooklyn. It was always something going on, always things to do. Always different activities to engage in, so I grew up with a lot of stuff to do. I never felt bored or felt like damn, what we gon’ do today? Or what’s going to happen? Because there was always the unexpected happening all the time.

When did you fall in love with music?

I fell in love with music at 9 or 10 years old. Even before I started off with the poetry, before going to school, I was going to church. My family used to take me to church, so I was always playing an instrument or playing the drums. Playing the flute, I was playing different instruments. I always was in the music.

Biggest influences or favorite artists?

My favorite artists right now, that’s doing a thing and I’m looking up to them? Moneybagg Yo. Jay Z. People along those lines.

When did you realize you could do music for a living?

I realized it a couple of years ago when I really started learning the business, and learning everything that was going on. Because before, I was rapping because I like to rap. I knew I could rap. I was still trying to find my way, still trying to find out what was going on. I started like getting more knowledge on the business with different people, picking up different pointers from different people. They was giving me advice so that’s what made me start taking it more serious where I’m like alright, I’m gonna start making money trying to do this.

How’d you get your name?

Iceman: I was always cool, laidback. There was a lot of crime, a lot of activity going on in my neighborhood, but a lot of people know he was cold too. Don’t cross him the wrong way because it could get cold. D.B.H, they was calling me da big homie where I’m from. Da big bro, it’s da big homie. So I put it together. Da big homie was too long, so they made it shorter.

“Henny No Chaser” has been going up. What were you on recording this record?

Me and my friends were in a studio. We was relaxing, chillin’. We were smoking a couple of spliffs. We had a little Henny. We were drinking, we were vibing. The beat came on, I was going off to it. Getting myself familiar with the beat. People in the studio, the engineers and everybody said “Yo, this should sound like a hit record! This shit might be a hit.”

I’m like I don’t know, let’s see what the people say. What their responses are. I put it out. People from all over the world said “this shit fire.” People in the UK was hitting me up. People in Chicago, Florida, VA, upstate New York. Everybody was hitting me up like “this shit is a banger.” “Henny No Chaser”!

Where did you shoot the video?

We shot some scenes in Brooklyn, East New York. We shot some scenes in Queens. We shot a couple scenes in Flatbush too.

Talk about your new single “Mindset.” You said it’s a club banger?

When I came out with a “Mindset,” I wanted it to be something different from “Henny No Chaser,” because people were saying I was too laidback with “Henny No Chaser.” I want this song to be more energetic and more aggressive.

You have your own label called Hard Body Paper Chasers Records. What inspired the name?

I named it Hard Body Paper Chasers Records, because at the time when I came up with the name, I was in full grindmode. I was focusing on building my music career and investing, putting a lot of money into my music. I was on the grind hard, I was working a lot. I was getting money every day. I was trying to focus on pushing my career to the next level and seeing how I could operate and start my own business without even having to deal with a label.

I was being managed by Trill EnT,, we had a little fallout. I took it as a learning experience. I went through it, and now I want to move on and keep going with my musical journey. I just kept on going. Things didn’t work out, so I took my own route. I’ma do it independently, with my own label.

How is the independent grind?

It’s good for me, I don’t know about anybody else. I’m getting money off my shows, I’m going different places. I’m meeting people from all over the world, they’re inviting me to different places. Putting me onto different ideas and different things that can help me build my brand.

What do you like to do when you’re not doing music?

When I’m not doing music, I like to travel. I like to go out nice places, be with my family. I like to shop. We know things that you know, regular people like to do. I got you. Three things you need in the studio. Three things I need in the studio. I need. First of all, I need a good engineer. Somebody that’s good with the mix, and the master knows he knows what he’s doing. And then I need a good atmosphere where it’s like a nice place. Maybe a little more quiet, not too much rough. There’s too much noise going on. And it’s peaceful. And third, I need a blunt I need to split I got you nice blue.

What is it you want fans to get from your story?

Anything is possible. It doesn’t matter what circumstances you come from, where you come from or how things turned out currently, there’s always other routes you could go and other ways you could better yourself. Put yourself in a place that you want to be at. Never give up. Don’t be dependent on anybody else, be dependent on yourself.

What can we expect next music-wise?

Next, I got a project coming out. Might drop a new EP in a couple months. I’m focused on pushing the new single “Mindset,” out right now. Got new videos coming out. I’ma be doing more touring. Going different places, networking. I might go make a stop in Tennessee after we leave out of here.

Dream collab?

Someone mainstream? Maybe Moneybagg Yo. I like Moneybagg.

Do you have any goals for yourself?

I want to keep on learning as much as I can about the business, keep on networking with people and taking my career to the top. Take it as far as I can take it.

Anything else you want to let the people know?

We’re coming out with new music. Follow me if you don’t have me on social media, Instagram at @mr_so_icey. Follow me on my Facebook fanpage: Iceman DBH. Follow me on Youtube: Iceman DBH everywhere. Stream my music on Spotify, Apple Music, all that. Just stay tuned because we got new stuff coming and we ain’t gon’ stop. - Shirley Ju
