Los Angeles, CA – Steven Cooper's highly anticipated album “My Time” hits the streets in fall of 2010 and has been building quite a buzz. Cooper’s unique style wraps r&b, pop and even rock influences around a spine of hip-hop. His music resounds with audio energy and pierces with thought-provoking lyrics and sharp verbal delivery.
“Fame,” one of the scorching singles from “My Time,” shows Lyrycyst as an artist in peak form. His rapping skills blaze across the sonic landscape, hitting all the right grooves and belting out provocative lyrics and rhyming schemes. Licks of hard rock guitar and other non-hip-hop influences ring out throughout the piece without diluting the purity of the music.
The song explores the process of an artist getting caught up in the mechanism of the monolithic entertainment industry. It’s a message for society and its obsession with the “glitz and glamour,” says Coop. “In hip-hop, we constantly run around telling everyone to keep it real, yet most of the rappers on TV are anything but that.”
Steven truly is about “keeping it real.” He remains down-to-earth with galvanizing ideas he wants to share with his listeners. He separates himself from the glorification of drugs, sex and money-wallowing, instead focusing on life, spirituality and the positive.
“I want people to know my goal with my music,” Cooper says. “I want to build people up with love, instead of degrading them and tearing them down.” He stresses that most of his music comes back to his life experiences – his songs are personal reflections, with the listener free to take what he will.
The history of Steven Cooper begins in high school. Initially, Cooper dreamed of being a songwriter for famous performers. Pouring his energy into writing lyrics and working with the local bands around the midwest region.
He began tinkering with the idea of composing hip-hop music and decided to give it a shot, despite naysayers. “After I wrote a few songs, I was hooked,” Cooper says. “It became a passion of mine and eventually I tried my hand at doing the actual performance side of things.” And it all blossomed from that.
Steven tours frequently; he’s never far from the stage. He played the Impact World Tour, playing more than 100 shows, and was featured on Shoutfest 2007. He has opened for such acts as David Cook, Tech N9ne and Kid Rock and has been featured on ABC Family spreading his positive message. He has been nominated by a number of awards shows for such categories as single, album and artist of the year.

Stereotypes are made to be broken. Steven Cooper proves that talent is talent and that despite his appearance, hip-hop music was what he was born to do.
Steven’s hit song “Bigger” features Akon and, at the time of its release, broke into the TOP 100 downloaded singles on iTunes. His single "Born To Do" was also a TOP 100 iTunes hit and was featured on the NFL Pro Bowl. He been featured alongside notable artists such as Tech N9ne, Kid Rock, David Cook, MC Hammer and many others. Cooper’s catchy and captivating songs have been featured nationally on ESPN, Fox, MTV, VH1, ABC Family and more. Coop has performed both nationally and internationally at distinguished venues and festivals including tours in Asia, Canada and 46 of the 50 US States. Steven has performed over 500 shows and recently headlined the Promise Land Festival in Ottumwa, IA for over 3500 attendees. He has also been a frequent opener for MMA Events across the country.
Born in the Midwest, Steven was raised by his young mother. His father disappeared before Steven was born. When asked about his upbringing, Cooper recalls growing up in a home surrounded by sex, drugs, violence, and addiction, which eventually left his family homeless. He dealt with depression and anger issues in his teenage years as a result of his tumultuous upbringing and the fact that he was bullied in school. He began to write lyrics and though he was scared at first, he decided to share his songs with the kids at school. His talent became a bridge between him and his peers. This is when Steven discovered that his music and drive could transcend barriers such as race and classism. From there, he decided to focus on his art and promised himself that he wasn’t going to be a part of the same vicious cycle as his parents.
An artist who is down to earth, kind, caring and extremely humble, much of Steven’s music addresses the fact that he does not quite fit into the hip-hop scene or any other mold. He can’t be anything other than one hundred percent authentic. An emcee that looks more like he may be a pop star in his fitted jackets, cardigans and ties, Steven also doesn’t resemble the recent wave of indie, hipster hip-hop artists. His song “Born To Do” talks about this struggle and the fact that he is not willing to give up on his dreams. His lyrics say “Every new day, every new night. This is my stage, this is my fight. This is what I was born to do.“ Steven Cooper is true to himself, and this is part of what makes him stand out from the crowd.
