Bio
...and 300 Fine Carriages Slightly Damaged in the Great Fire...
In 2008 Chicago native Michael Mehlan relocated to Kenosha, WI to attend college and was introduced to electronic musician, Justin M. Misch. They quickly started recording demos and forming the act that would become Fur Coats for Sportsmen.
Their initial release …and 300 Fine Carriages Slightly Damaged in the Great Fire... was an album full of ambition, heavy doom metal licks and, ambient soundscapes.
After their first DIY release, they played local clubs and bars between Chicago and Milwaukee extensively with no goal other than to make the party louder.
Bourbon Babylon
With their second DIY release Bourbon Babylon in 2012, the Sportsmen found success with a tight knit local following and a couple song placements from an album filled with the angst of coming of age and sociological questioning, backed by extensive blues riffing and a chaotic rhythm section.
After selling out their first run of “Bourbon Babylon” in 2013, then taking a hiatus, they were reformed with a new drummer, Dead Ed Schiavo.
Fur Coats for Sportsmen has been active, playing numerous shows and festivals, steadily writing and recording ever since.
