Intensity inhabits this Pop Rock-style composition, making the blood freeze in the veins, the pupil dilate, and the sweat run cold, but this will only bring more flavor to the sound.

Orange County has produced some of Punk Rock’s most well-known groups: Agent Orange, Save Ferris, The Vandals, Social Distortion, No Doubt, Reel Big Fish— to name a few— and they’re still crankin’ ’em out! Meet Erica, Jeannette, Jenna and Oli of alt-rock/indie group Frequency Within. These rock stars appeal to fans of The Distillers, Evanescence, and some emo/metalhead hybrids (see Erica’s influence). Let’s get to know these Freqs!
You guys just got back from SXSW! Tell me about what you did, who you met, and how you think it will help further your music?
We had the pleasure of being surrounded by a ton of musicians, whether we were watching a show or helping set up stages, and keep the shows going. We spent a few days enjoying the festival and another few days working behind the scenes in venues. We definitely made a lot of friends in Austin as well as friends we didn’t know lived so close to home. We’re definitely going back next year.
Who are your most major influences?
Erica (vocals/guitar): Senses Fail
Jeannette (drummer): No Doubt
Jenna (vocals/guitar): Tegan and Sara
Oli (bass): Trent Reznor
How has your experience changed since you got signed by Die Laughing Records?
Erica: I was inspired to quit my job. Now I do music and photography full time.
Jeannette: Receiving more feedback and there’s more urgency for the next EP. Keeping us on our toes.
Jenna: I find I work harder and help
Oli: More motivation
After the release of your kick ass album “Blissfullmess” and your newest song “Coma”, are you ready to crank out another album?
Erica: Hell Yeah!
Jeannette: Yes, but it will be bigger and better!
Jenna: We’re always writing new songs year round, but right now we’ve been in the studio more than every writing a ton of new music. Go follow our label Die Laughing Records to find out what we’ll be doing this year.
Oli: I can’t wait for the badassery to be heard
What are you all involved in outside the band? Related/unrelated to music?
Erica: Photography – Erica Torres Photography / The Media Productions
Jeannette: Drum Covers
Jenna: SoCal Indie Musicians (Managing other artists & setting up shows for touring bands)
Oli: Music Video Enthusiast
We’re all spice lords, trying the spiciest foods in every state we go to on tour. If you’ve watched any of our stories on Instagram you’ll see us trying them.
What song do you recommend “Freq”s show to friends to get them hooked?
Erica: Static Ground (Blissfulmess Album) for the energy.
Jeannette: Static Ground (Blissfulmess Album) for the head banging.
Jenna: Coma (Single on Die Laughing Records) if you’re feeling emo.
Oli: Static Ground (Blissfulmess Album) if you want to flip tables.
The Owner of Die Laughing Records, Dave, would probably say “Vindictive” though. We put out a music video for it last November (2017) filmed by K Enagonio and that is what really got his attention.
Give me a brief overview of how you found each other and how each member fits in to the band.
Jeannette found Erica, Oli and Jenna who were already performing together. She came in for one practice and we clicked instantly on every level: songwriting, humor, drive and passion for music, our love for spicy foods. We have been together ever since.
Where is your musical happy place (favorite venue/city to play? Place you love to practice? Place you go to pluck your worries away?)
Our rehearsal studio. It’s a place where we can be alone together to song write. It’s basically our hub where we meet up for everything at any hour.
Who are your favorite artists, famous or emerging? Recommendations?
Erica: Spare Parts for Broken Hearts (Los Angeles) I love their aggressive emotional rock.
Jeannette: Differences (Orange County) Their energy and stage presence is intriguing. Also The Dollyrots are fun pop punk rock.
Jenna: Normally I’d say Phantom Party (from Phoenix, AZ) but they just broke up. Fortunately, their drummer is now fronting his own band called No Lungs (Also in Phoenix, AZ). This guy is beyond talented, weird and driven. I definitely see them touring soon.
Oli: Anomalie (Montreal, Canada) Saw him play at NAMM, blew me away and everyone else within a 200ft radius.
Is there anything you want to tell the masses when this gets published?
Erica: Wear your heart on your sleeve at all times.
Jeannette: Get out of your bubble and listen to something different that is outside your comfort zone.
Jenna: Go out to shows, meet people and have a good time.
Oli: Stop being an asshole, be more open minded and love one another.

Frequency Within is NOT messing around by the way! Due to the assorted talents of the band (besides the music, of course), they are a PR dream, running platforms on ALL THE SOCIAL MEDIA as well as having a kick ass website and Youtube channel. Obviously DIY is the Punk Rock jam, however, I am thoroughly impressed with their talent and the apparent effort they put into everything they do. Freq on!

“Vindictive”
This SoCal alt-indie act passed through AZ on their very first tour and we’re grateful for some repeat visits now that the band is gaining momentum (and tour stops). The 4-piece is currently at work on a new album (due out next year), but they offered up this new music video for “Vindictive” last week. Frequency Within will be passing our way again in March so like/follow to stay up-to-date on their shows! - YabYum

Lights from a projector cast a grungy scene of four local Southern Californian musicians in, what appears to be, an abandoned structure in front of a packed bar in Pomona, California. The crowd erupts in cheers as the song, “Vindictive,” by the band, Frequency Within, begins to play, and the picture comes to life to reveal the indie/alternative rock band performing their song from their debut album.
The band members, Erica Torres (Vocals, Guitar), Jenna Alonzo (Vocals, Guitar), Oli Navarro (Bass), and Jeannette Lawler (Drums) successfully released their new music video, “Vindictive,” from their “Blissfulmess” album at Dba256 Bar & Gallery in downtown Pomona, California. The foursome played the video, which was filmed and directed by K Enagonio Photography, to the crowd after performing a highly energetic and engaging set that got the crowd dancing.
Frequency Within’s sound has been compared to The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Killers, My Chemical Romance, and Nirvana. The band noticeably has an American Southwest influence of alternative rock with a sound that brings in elements of punk and a dash of grunge. The set, along with the previous acts, was streamed live and followed three other talented bands. However, the music video was only shared with the crowd that was there at the show in person.
“We’re local, and we’ve had so much support from so many people around us,” said vocalist and guitarist, Erica Torres. “They seen us from ‘Golly Gee Wiz,’ they’ve seen us grow up…So that constant support I want to give back and be like, ‘hey guys be a part of this milestone with us’ because this is home. This is our hometown.”
The band had come a long way in a short amount of time debuting their first album, “Blissfulmess,” just months after finding their current drummer, Jeanette Lawler, buckling down to write the music, and then touring California, Arizona, and Nevada extensively.
“Honestly, coming out of a band that I was in for like seven years, we never really got to do long tours, or anything like that,” said drummer, Jeanette Lawler. “We went out to Arizona and came back, and that’s about it. So when I came to this band, I made it known that we need to go on tour. We need to do this. We need to get our name out there.”
The members of the band find artists, such as Tegan and Sara, inspiring for their rise from an acoustic indie band to what could be argued as a household name. They each had the same mindset, loved the idea of having a female drummer, and clicked with Lawler immediately. After Jeanette auditioned for the spot as the last quarter of the three-quarter female band, they knew right away that she would fit in perfectly.
“When she walked out, we all looked at each other like—yeah,” said bassist, Oli Navarro who was referring to the awe at just how well the music major from Cal Poly Pomona, not only played the drums, but connected with the existing members of the band formerly known as Golly Gee Wiz.
The band also stresses the importance of representation and how when they were younger they, often, didn’t see themselves represented as much in the music industry.
“When I was young in high school I didn’t know any other female guitarists, at all,” said guitarist and vocalist Jenna Alonzo. “And now I see it more, especially since I’m around musicians all of the time, but there are definitely more now, and I would like to see that continue to grow.”
“We are for women having strength,” said Torres. “I have a little sister, and when she sees me on stage, I want her to say, ‘damn, women are allowed to be strong like that. Women are allowed to be loud, and we have a voice.’ So I definitely want to push that envelope as well because the music scene, it is changing, but it’s still a man’s world.”
The band is currently writing their next album, and they see themselves being involved in music for the rest of their lives. Their passion for music, their friendship, and respect for one another is definitely something special that will keep this band together and headed toward a bright future.
[Music] “is really our lives,” said Lawler. “Even if we weren’t in a band together we would be writing music. We just happened to meet each other.” - The 26

"Blissfulmess" is the debut album from Orange county four piece, Frequency Within. The almost 30 minute album is kind of a mix of mid 2000's alternative "Emo" rock (Taking Back Sunday, Senses Fail, Etc.) grunge, and some garage rock thrown in there as well.
The album is produced very well, with an emphasis on a heavy bass and drum. You can also hear a lot of melodic guitar riffs on this record. I love the guitar riffs on "You Went Too Far" for example. Or on "Wonder" which starts with a really great hook that drops into an OOH filled chorus. The bass and drums are solid all throughout the album, which keep the songs heavy and fun. The last song "Doom" has this garage rock bass riff that takes the album up to 11, before going into a full on psych rock climax.
The band's lead singer Erica Torres sings about the kind of things that haunt you when you are in your 20's - Alcohol, bad love, and how generally people kinda suck.
"Our music, especially our latest album Blissfulmess, was written in such a direct form. It's angst-y and comes from the teenage pissed-off kid that I could never seem to put to rest. Blissfulmess is my way of finally letting go of lost loves, broken hearts and the what ifs . So with that said this album is for those people who are sick of life's b.s. , the angst-y adults, the people who won't quit." -Erica
Overall, a great first album from Frequency Within and it's definitely recommended if you enjoy Heavy Emo Rock. - Digger Music Review
