October 2001 marked the first annual Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, welcoming hundreds of artists and nearly 5,000 listeners to the city streets of Bristol, Tennessee. Country, roots, bluegrass and gospel artists came from around the region and nation for the three-day celebration. Restaurants, coffee shops, cafes and saloons opened their doors and welcomed in patrons to hear artists in intimate venues. Outdoor stages catered to larger groups, and impromptu jams on State Street broke out. The festival has more than quadrupled in size since then, and the 2009 Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion promises to be the biggest yet!
