Everett B. Walters – “Ferry Ride”: The Browns are back with a new song and they do not disappoint. “Ferry Ride” brings the laid-back jazz/funk sound that you are already familiar with – heavy on the guitars and filled in nicely with some great keys. The vocals on this track are a welcomed surprise. The style reminds me something of 70’s and 80’s duo The Brothers Johnson. If this song is an example of a refreshed for 2012, Everett B. Walters, I think that they are right on track. - Jeff Niziol US New Jazz

Mainstays in the Las Vegas Jazz/Funk scene, Everett B. Walters are comprised of guitarist Michael Everett Brown and bassist Harold Walter Brown III. The three songs that are currently on US SmoothJazz.com are from their release “Always Reaching High” (originally released in 2006 with subsequent re-releases in 2008 and 2009). Here we go!
“7 East”
A smooth and steady funk beat anchors this tune. Now imagine (if you will), a fusion of blues/funk guitar and free form jazz synth. Just like Reeses peanut butter cups, the combination just melts together nicely.
“Rainbow Beach”
A great example of a smooth jazz groove. There is a hook in the song that grabs you from the start and just does not let go. I suggest that you pull out the headphones (and TURN THEM UP!) for this tune and experience the many layers of some great funk guitar.
“Always High Reaching”
With a bass line straight out of an S.O.S. Band album (how’s that for dating me?), this is a nice marriage between funk and smooth jazz. Guest pianist Brian Simpson does a great job on the keys.
Jeff’s Favorite: “Rainbow Beach”
Jeff’s Final Thought: Everett B. Walters delivers smooth jazz with a strong funk influence. On the other hand, you could say that they deliver great funk tunes with a smooth jazz influence. It really is a toss-up. Nevertheless, the result is music that you can chill to or just get up and dance!!!!!!!! - US New Jazz -Jeff Niziol

“Hip and definitely in-the-pocket, Always High Reaching delivers funky smooth jazz mixed with a few soulful vocal tunes. Especially compelling is “And the Story Goes”, which the Brown brothers wrote for pianist Brian Simpson and here offers a version just as tasty as his. “ - Brian Soergel, Jazz Times - Jazz Times
“I love this CD, heard about you from my friends @ Jazz Fm in the U.K. This new CD is Tight! I picked up “And the Story Goes” and immediately added to my play list... Tracks 3, 8, & 9 will be added to our current play list. Always High Reaching is a Great CD!” -Ted Hasiuk, The Jazz Cafe, Winnipeg - Manitoba, Canada

Bio
Guitarist, Michael Everett Brown and Bassist, Harold Walter Brown III, two brothers from the south side of Chicago are the founders and driving force behind the jazz/funk group Everett B. Walters. Along with Stanley Small on Keyboards/Lead Vocals and Ed Morales on Percussion/Vocals deliver their own unique brand of Smooth Jazz, R&B and Soul.
“Long Road Home” is their new CD and the 4th that features R&B, Smooth Jazz and Soul. From the funky bass grooves on the title track, to the smooth guitar and a few rock guitar solos, to some smooth vocal Stylings. This CD has it all! Also joining them again on drums is Mike White.
"Catching the H Train", their 3rd and current CD is a refreshing blend of cool jazz, R&B and soul that re-unites longtime friend and brother Mike White on drums and Alex Alessondroni, (co-writer of Always high Reaching) on keyboards.
Growing up in Chicago, the Brown brothers started their career in the Chicago Vocational Music Program, but it was neighborhood friend Tom Washington (Tom-Tom 84) who recorded and arranged with super group Earth, Wind and Fire and many others that influenced them most. After high school they performed regularly around the Chicago area at community events, private events and clubs including the infamous Cotton Club and The Click. The Brown brothers also had the opportunity to open for the late Bernie Mac. In the early 90’s Michael and Harold left Chicago, headed to Las Vegas and soon begin performing regularly.
Stanley Small aka (Duayne Stanley), a creative songwriter, arranger, producer and vocal performer, is a self taught keyboardist who also plays saxophone, drums and percussion. He is originally from the mid-western city of Wichita, Kansas where he fronted various cover bands before relocating to Las Vegas in 1991 to further pursue his music career. Stanley is also the third member of the song writing team.
Eduardo Morales Sr. percussionist, originally from Glen Cove New York, brings his innovative musical style to the band. As a young man his “father introduced him to the music of Puerto Rican heritage” which inspired him to play the congas, bongos and timbales. His love for rock & soul music helped him incorporate the sound that “helps bring this groups” unique flash and funk all together.
