Gospel Tent
Friday-Sunday, Tito's Handmade Vodka stage
By Kahron Spearman, Fri., Sept. 30, 2016
ACL understands and offers a chance for healing. Backsliders should look for spiritual cleansing at Tito's Handmade Vodka stage – the "gospel tent" – before each day (and night) of debauchery. The soulful Gospel Silvertones kick off Friday with R&B inflections of legendary Motown and Philadelphia sounds. Houston's six-time Stellar Award-nominated traditional quartet Endurance intone a scripture-faithful message of deliverance through God's love...

--Mattia Sacchi [Click link to read full article] - Mattia Sacchi
By far, my favorite act at iFest has been Endurance. The San Francisco (correction: Houston) based vocal quartet lifted spirits and got the crowd dancing Sunday afternoon, sweeping through songs about a mother's love and the generosity of our maker. Fans raised their hands high, humming and singing along after being taught the choruses. And during "Ain't God Good," the singers even walked into the crowd, shaking hands and giving out hugs while continuing to sing. They may be from the Bay-area (incorrect: they didn't fact check), but if that ain't Southern hospitality I just don't know what is. --Matthew Keever
Note: This was a great review but they listed Endurance as a San Francisco based group which is incorrect. This quartet Endurance is Houston based. They didn't check their facts very well before writing this. I wanted to include this because it was a festival review and it was their most recent. --Sharon Baldwin, Social Media/Publicity admin - Houston Press Blogs (Rocks Off) Matthew Keever

In a music industry that has all but snubbed the time-honored gospel quartet community, Houston’s Endurance has garnered six Stellar Award nominations for its smooth but meaty harmonies, hard-singing lead work, and memorable songs.
Right On Time, the quartet’s latest album, finds the men working squarely in their trademark style...[Click URL to Read More] - The Journal of Gospel Music - Bob Marovich
In April 2003, we introduced you to the freshman project of Endurance. They are back with an outstanding CD. So, it is fitting that three (3) years later, we review the newest CD by this group. Their new CD is titled He’ll Make A Way.
This is one CD that will be hard to put down. Endurance has incorporated traditional gospel music with rhythm and blues arrangements that really make this a must have CD. The harmony is very, very tight. These guys really have reached deep down within themselves and their efforts culminated in giving us an exceptional CD...[click URL to read more]

About Endurance:
Foot-tapping,
hand-clapping, down home, happy and feel good gospel are emotions invoked when
describing traditional gospel quartet music. Houston based Endurance stirs up
those feelings and more in their heartfelt style of musical delivery.
The six-time Stellar Award nominated traditional gospel quartet group consists of manager and vocalist Claude Cummings, primary lead vocalist Michael Robertson, and vocalist Earl Sampson, as founding members. Vocalist Wallace Grant II stepped in to replace the late Dave Botts who passed away in May, 2017. Endurance also utilizes the vocal talents of Eric Cortez, Ramon James Ross and Justin Patrick as reserve singers.
Each
member has the ability to lead and assumes that role at different
times. Endurance released their sixth studio CD CHANGED in 2017.
The group is in talks for a subsequent project which will be produced by gospel
music icon Melvin Williams, of the legendary Williams Brothers. Their latest
project offers new material that is very spiritual, uplifting and more
versatile in how it sounds and feels. It is intended to appeal to a wider
audience. Although the guys are experimenting with some new sounds, fans can be
assured that all their songs are always scripturally accurate.
The title track "Changed" featuring the late Joe Ligon was the first single and quickly impacted radio. The song broke the Top 100 on the Nielsen/BDS Gospel Radio Airplay Charts entering at #97. It is the last known feature and recording by the legendary, Grammy-Award winning, lead singer of the Mighty Clouds of Joy. A song fans of the late singer will treasure...a true collector's item. Endurance is honored to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Ligon, who they've revered since high school; before his passing in 2016.
