Bio
Electrik Ants thrives in the vibe of the music and commits to follow it's energy. It could be a soulful groove with rap, a soaring guitar line, a synthesizer solo, or a DJ break-beat that finds its way into a psychedelic dungeon. A seven-piece band with sax, DJ, drums, bass, and three members that rotate between rapping, singing, guitar, keys, synth, and percussion, The Ants are allowed great freedom in performing and writing; A freedom that is explored and expressed with deep emotional and technical dedication. There simply isn’t a band as ambitious, capable, or unique as Electrik Ants. In late 2015, writer and guitarist David Wilson teamed up with brothers Jeff and Dylan Collins. The chemistry was immediate. For over a year, David, Jeff and Dylan met twice weekly for hours to write, record, listen to and discuss music. With lessons learned from recent projects and individually-intricate musical histories, a focused, ambitious sound that combined their love of hip-hop, jazz, rock, funk and electronic music blossomed. The emerging energy drew comparisons to Pink Floyd, Gorillaz, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Lettuce. From the spring of 2016 to the spring of 2017, the three of them wrote, recorded and produced their genre-defying debut album, Rhetorik One, set to be released in the spring of 2018. Deciding on the name Electrik Ants, they began the search for the best fitting musicians to bring their music to life on stage. After extensive searching, the perfect players began to fill out the rest of the live band. Now with Mike Maschmann on bass, Val Hajro on drum set, Jared Cortez (DJ Still Do) on the turntables, and sax monster Ryan Dahir, the ambitions of the studio have erupted onto the stage. Local media has declared: “Next must see band; Electrik Ants”, Andrew Sherman, veteran arts photographer, and “They've got something special brewin' over there . . . busting at the seams with talent." - Waffles Weekly, culture periodical. With radio spots, an album release, music videos, and a rapidly growing festival and show schedule, Electrik Ants is a band looking back but moving forward. Genres - Trip-Hop, Rock, Jazz, Hip-Hop Tagline - Pocket Space in a Space Pocket Electrik Ants goes well with: Gorillaz, Zero 7, Lettuce, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers
