"The Blog About Nothin Exclusive: Cane "Lucid Dreams" Mixtape Preview"

Cane is a promising young emcee from the DMV area, who began making raps since 2009. His first mixtape Cane Is The Name released that year and he started performing at various shows gaining a buzz wherever he went. Following up his debut mixtape was Cane’s 2nd Wind which brought about 19 tracks of pure lyrical content that raised the bar for himself. Cane has three more projects under his belt such as My Universe, Appetizer For Destruction and Destruction. His catalog is very well-rounded with conceptual and deep music that is still catchy for the listeners to pick up on.

This all leads up to his newest and latest mixtape Lucid Dreams which drops this Sunday, June 30th. The project is produced entirely by DJ/Producer/Studio Engineer Lou Burna, who crafted and pieced together a nice mixtape with Cane. Just from the mixtape cover, you can tell that Lucid Dreams will be a dope project. In the cover, Cane is at that point in is his life where he wants to pursue his rap dream but he’s stuck doing the typical “9 to 5” and the uncertainty is keeping him from reaching his goal. While he’s stuck in the predicament he’s in, his boss is handing him the pink slip....perfect timing right? Well now we have Lucid Dreams a 15 track mixtape that will satisfy the hip-hop heads and relate to anyone who gives it a listen.

Here on The Blog About Nothin, I’ll give you a track-by-track review of the favorite songs I enjoyed the most off of the mixtape. Make sure you read this review and go get Cane’s Lucid Dreams produced by Lou Burna June 30th!

"Lucid Dreams"
"My dreams ain't dreams no more!". Cane kicks off the mixtape with the self titled track produced by Lou Burna. The beat is crazy sounding like an old vinyl record spinning over keys and sick drums boom bapping. Lou Burna's beat helps enhance Cane's razor sharp bars as he spits about taking control of his dream by going out and getting it done no matter what. If you feel like you're stuck in a rut this track will motivate you to wake up from your lucid dream to pursue whatever it is you want to do. Sets the tone very well for the mixtape.

"Lazy Boy"
This is one of my favorite tracks ever since he debuted it earlier this month. It is so hip-hop with the crazy production from Lou Burna and Cane's flow is so head nodding accompanied with his catchy hook "kick back like a lazy boy". Cane plays on words throughout the song saying things like "I rule it like a Russian on his last bullet sip concord grapes on my patent bullshit". Listeners will enjoy bumping this joint.

"9 to 5 Raps"
Hate your 9 to 5 job? Cane sure does and kicks bars over a jazzy beat. I, as a listener, related to this track a lot because I work a job that I don't care for because I feel as though I'm destined for bigger and better things. When Cane said "Why slave for a subpar stub I'm gonna receive?", I was in a ahh damn moment it's true and listening to this track you will want to again wake from your lucid dream which is the constant theme of the tape.

"Checking For Me"
Cane snapped something serious on this song with them 808's banging. He switches up the vibe of the mixtape with this club banger type of single and catchy hook. He doesn't dumb down the witty bars on this one but the listener can rock to this and enjoy it because we all have that one someone trying to check for us.

"Didn't I"
Lou Burna is a genius sampling Darondo's "Didn't I" song! Then comes along Cane with some real life bars trying to balance real life and his dreams of being a rapper. This is another one of my favorites off the mixtape, the vibe, the feel of this track is so soulful.

"Selfish"
Track 8 is something we can all relate to, we are all selfish especially in this day in age. Cane raps about not being aware of certain things because he is more focused on himself becoming a rapper. Tanna, who happens to be the only feature, sings her heart out on this song which puts it all together quite well. Listeners can vibe out and reflect on things while listening to this song.

"Secret"
Who is Cane? Well on this quirky beat, he raps about himself so you can better get to know the Virginia emcee. The beatbox beat takes you back to rap battle days in the park. Cane's metaphors don't lighten up, "And you ain't tryna say that the kid nice and you the type to ask Manti Te'o for relationship advice", he raps.

"The Rose"
Cane raps over the tinkling of keys with smooth vocals in the background for this song. He raps about his girl and family being the rose in his concrete road to top. Although he goes through harsh times coming up in the game his family still show love and support as they grow together. Very touching song.

Overall, Cane and Lou Burna put together a very, - The Blog About Nothin

"DMV Beats: Cane, Youngin, Oddisee, Drew Dave, and Phil Adé: Dream Chasin"

While some rappers are flaunting cash and jewelry, many of their listeners are working dead-end jobs. They’re suffering through broken relationships, not throwing money at strippers; they’re paying bills, not collecting debts. Chances are, Cane had those listeners in mind when he made his new mixtape, Lucid Dreams, a 15-track collection of common-man rhymes that tackle everyday issues. "Walk of Shame" takes a jab at tennis-shoe fandom: "You ain't even seen the sneaker yet, yet you need this ... You don't care what type of kick it is/You just care 'cause it's limited."

"Didn't I" and "Selfish" show two sides of the breakup spectrum. On the former, Cane is dismissive. On the latter, he's contrite: "All she ever do is care, then I turn around and take it out on her, how fair is that?" That's why this tape thrives. In a game full of swag, Cane isn't afraid to be human. —Marcus J. Moore - Washington City Paper

Cane continues to elevate his artistry, building off of the critical acclaim of his 2012 release, Destruction. Cane uses his polished delivery to connect with his audience on a variety of subjects, including the difficulties of love, boredom with traditional jobs, and frustrations with society’s focus on materialism. "Cane-Lazy Boy"

Most rappers are anxious to portray themselves as tireless hustlers, willing to forego sleep in order to secure their rightful place at the top of the game. Booth newcomer Cane on the other hand, freely admits to spending a good portion of his day kicking back in his Lazy Boy recliner. Far from seeing his indolence as a vice, though, he holds it as a point of pride; over Lou Burna‘s leisurely woodwind loops, the Fredericksburg, Virginia representative laughs at peers who toil round the clock to achieve what he can accomplish between his morning and mid-afternoon naps. This ode to idleness is just one of many fresh cuts to be found on Cane’s Lucid Dreams LP, available now for free download via Bandcamp. - DJBooth.net

"Cane-Problem"

Cane may enjoy kicking back in his Lazy Boy recliner from time to time, but don’t get it twisted: the man is still a Problem. His secret? Like chemistry teacher-turned-drug kingpin Walter White, he works not harder, but smarter (and much more ruthlessly) than the competition. On his latest single, a Booth-exclusive world premiere, the Federicksburg, Virginia native shows us what he sounds like when he’s not in “chillax” mode, expounding upon his hustle in speedy, yet controlled double-time verses. Perhaps sensing the intensity may be too much for weak-stomached listeners, producer Lou Burna hits the brakes on the record’s syrupy-slow outro. Doctor Awkward‘s Breaking Bad-influenced visuals round out the package. Fans can find this hard-hitting cut and many more underground bangers on Cane’s Lucid Dreams LP, available for free download as of June 30. - DJBooth.net

"Cane Formulates A “Problem” With His First Visuals Off ‘Lucid Dreams’"

Shot and Directed by Mr. Fili, Cane is cooking up a problem

Fresh off the release of his latest project, Lucid Dreams, Cane let’s loose of the visuals for his latest single “Problem” produced by Lou Burna.
From the jump, Cane steps right into the lab and formulates dangerous concoctions as if he were debuting his own role for the final season of Breaking Bad. These creations, laced with Cane’s sharp and venomous wordplay, take the Mister Fili directed spectacle from a FFx2 setting to a chopped and screwed, psychotropic experience before you even realize what hit you.

Cane’s hustle since Lucid Dreams has been infallible, shutting down back to back performances at the Live At The Grill Again events Friday and Saturday, the DMV native dropped his first video from the project last night.

The hype and support for Lucid Dreams continues on, check the latest achievement below. - The Source

"DMV Artist Cane Presents 'Lucid Dreams'"

Cane is the name and its time to get familiar

Earlier this week, we gave you a glimpse into the DMV emcee Cane who premiered “Checking for Me” off his latest offering ‘Lucid Dreams.’ With the Virginian native making quite the buzz in his region and dropping the next chapter in his career, it’s only fitting to ask, “Who is Cane?”

Hailing from Fredericksburg, Virginia, Cane has been perfecting his craft for quite some time while pursuing his love for sports as well. The lyrical wordsmith spent his college years at Virginia Military Institute playing football, a passion that would transcend into his music. It’s evident that when combining sports and hip-hop, Cane knows where his strengths are but that doesn’t even remotely limit the MC from tackling anything that’s thrown his way.

While you may be unaware of Cane’s movement, he has undoubtedly clocked some time in the game and has created quite the movement for himself. Participating in FLO 106.5’s the Beat Contest, Cane was a finalist and opened up for the likes of Estelle, Ace Hood, Ray-J, Mario and more at the station’s “Beat Block Party.” He also received radio play for his single “I Do Work.” Cane’s prominence in the region afforded him the opportunity to partake in the DMV cypher alongside Fat Trel, Phil Ade & Tabi Bonney, but Cane is no stranger to freestyles and has hopped on plenty of notable cyphers leaving them crippled after unleashing his lyrical ammo.

Cane has built a team and with that group of individuals he has amassed a collection of hits and videos alike. His determination to only deliver excellence is evident which predominately reflects in the quality of his videos, whether they are quick lighthearted freestyles like “Kelly Kapowski” over Tyga’s “Rack City” or serious drawn out projects like his acclaimed “Grassroots Tangent.” There’s no denying that the established artist takes his craft seriously. Cane’s originality doesn’t prevent him from hopping on notable tracks and getting reckless as he’s done with his rendition of “Suite & Tie” and even recently hopped on a Harry Fraud beat with “All You Get.”

Today is the day. Cane has dropped ‘Lucid Dreams’ and after coming off his acclaimed 2012 release ‘Destruction’ which garnered the attention from the likes of Kevin Nottingham, the emcee is ready to take it a step further. Teaming up with executive producer Lou Burna, the frequent collaborators have pieced together another solid body of work. ‘Lucid Dreams’ highlights original creation from Burna as well as recognizable production from the legends in the game. With Cane taking on the main act for Live At The Grill Again Music Showcase, sponsored by SportsZone, ‘Lucid Dreams’ is here to propel Cane into the spotlight he rightfully deserves. As he once said “I’m getting closer to the top so just call me Lebron’s headband.” Damn. - The Source
