"Escape Reality In High Times"

In a country where the news is polluted with reports of chaos, sometimes you need to find a way to run away from the negativity.

From the same city which birth immaculate artists such as Big Sean, Detroit-based rapper Blair enlists the help from fellow rapper SP to explore escapism in his latest song, “High Times.” Influenced by heavy-hitting artists such as Drake, Stevie Wonder, and J. Cole to name a few, the title track from his forthcoming EP isn’t your average get high song. “High Times” seamlessly ties together audio recordings of news reporters discussing local gun violence and imprisonment with verses expressing the need to get away through clouds of smoke amongst other distractions.

Check out the song below and run away from your problems for a bit:

Blair brought the fire to the kitchen, but he also credits SP being instrumental in bringing the ingredients to “High Times” for an effortless, meaningful concept.

Blair on SP’s feature in “High Times”:

“I had the opportunity to be blessed with a verse by one of the best (SP). He had the great concept to make a song for the city and not only the city, but for the world. Hopefully, this will change the way people think of the community.”
Blair’s musical journey started at a very early stage in his life. Surrounded by a musical environment, around the age of 11 he began writing songs, and was heavily influenced by his father’s music collection. Blair started recording music around the age of 19 using his father’s old recording mixer. Being so ahead of his time, he’s been offered deals from Universal, Koch Records, and many others, however Blair is pursuing his dreams as an independent artist.

High Times – EP is slated for a winter release, but If you like what you hear, you can always check out Blair’s SoundCloud or YouTube page and get familiar with his work. Pho3nix(Inc) surely has! - Pho3nix News

Bio

Blair B’s journey started in Kalamazoo, Michigan being raised in a lower middle-class family. As a young boy, everyone could always hear or see him doing something with entertainment; it was almost as if it were his destiny. Not only did Blair grow up surrounded by music, but his family’s heritage is immersed in music; such as his father being a part of the band "Dave Prater (From Sam and Dave), and his Great-Great Grandfather being the personal violinist and guitarist for the famous gangster Al Capone. From living in the sub-urban parts of Kalamazoo, MI, Blair was exposed to a lot of Pop, Country, and R&B. Carelessly, Blair would create his own lyrics to well-known songs, because he felt they were more suitable. Sometimes he would do this so much that his siblings would begin to catch on to his re-mixed lyrics.

In 1999, his family moved to Atlanta, Georgia. During the time, Blair began to get exposed to a lot of southern hip-hop such as, Nelly, The Hot Boyz, and Ludacris; attending live concerts to these artists inspired him to perform. Just before he began to get a taste of the southern culture, his family felt it was time to move to Muskegon, Michigan to reunite with his well-known grandfather (Bishop of COGIC). Dealing with the transition, Blair began listening to artists such as: Ne-Yo, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and Tupac. Once reunited with his grandfather, Blair was on a strict regimen, “church every Thursday and Sunday including Sunday school.  “ This helped mold his character. But, this wasn’t an easy task for the young, “Soon-to-be-star.”

As a teenager, Blair began to join the wrong crowd. His parents began to notice his bad decisions and when he was disciplined, this caused many disputes. When put on punishment, to kill time, Blairturned to writing. Writing became an outlet to express his feelings. Without realizing, Blair began to write more and more each day; it almost became an addiction. His father noticed him spending a lot of time writing and could hear him reciting his own lyrics. One day, his father surprised him with some recording equipment. This resulted in Blair focusing his time on music production. It was offise that he had a passion for music and without a doubt he had a natural talent when it came to song wiritng. Being so consumed caused for his grades to drop. His parents were worried he wouldn’t graduate on time, so they said he couldn’t record again until he graduated. Although he felt he was ready to pursue a recording contract, his parents insisted he finish school and a couple years of college, not only to receive knowledge but build maturity. This was proven to be a winning idea because in 2010, he began doing live shows and started sharing the stage with Joe, Jeremih, Tony Terry and Lil' G from the group, "Silk." Hosting and performing at night clubs became a part of Blair's night life. Also, Blair participating in these events made him a main attraction at a local Bar/Lounge called, “The 4-1-1 Bistro Lounge.”  Blair’s parents told him, “To gain our support, you must create radio friendly songs.” With this criteria, it molded Blair into the edgy commercial radio sound he is till this day. Blair began releasing songs on youtube in 2010 and he reached over 300,000+ hits and got a couple songs in radio rotation (103.7 The Beat). Not only does he have thousands of plays on youtube, but he also has over 20,000 Facebook "Likes," on his fan page, 25,000+ twitter followers, 400,000+ soundcloud plays, 15,000 downloads on his first mixtape,”Self -Titled,” and he is ranked #1 on his local reverbnation charts.
