We knew New York’s Zambri sisters had been hard at work in the studio since they dropped last year’s indelible Bang for Changes (still bump that, obviously). But we’re a little beside ourselves at the anthem factor of new jam “Carry.” With backing vocals from Jon Philpot (of their frequent show/Twitter-friends Bear in Heaven), they’ve reached this Kate Bush level of top-of-the-mountain, sing-into-the-sun gothic atmosphere, flanked by electronic ghost hammering and little synth baby coos. It’s dark and uplifting but not calculated—the track just rides on the swift waves of their harmonies and emotion. More please! Track and tour dates after the jump.

NYC's Zambri is the strangely compelling electro industrial pop project of sisters Cristi Jo and Jessica. I bet you can guess what their last name is. No? Fine, I'll just tell you. It's Zambri.
Zambri's songs are songs that make you "feel" something. And that feeling isn't emo. That feeling is, "This is kind of magical, but I'm also slightly freaked out." Zambri's music makes me feel kind of how that band Austra makes me feel. Maybe it's the twisted distorted noise. Maybe it’s the all those minor keys swooping down like low flying predators to meet the beats. Maybe it's the sisters' haunting harmonies. Hell, maybe it's just the layers. Layers have always frightened me.
I can't really explain Zambri. I can only feel it. And I feel it by feeling the goose-bumps on the back of my neck when I hear these songs. Alright, I just made that up. I don't actually have goose-bumps. I thought it would just be a fun thing to say. But I don't back down from any of the haunting creepy "feelings" this duo gives me.
If you want to see and/or listen to something that's magically creepy in a poppy industrial sort of way, Zambri just might be the band for you. And probably is the only band for you. Who else sounds like this? Well, Kate Bush kinda I guess.

For a first introduction into the world of Cristi Jo & Jessica Zambri, Kanine Records will be releasing Zambri’s debut EP “Glossolalia” on Nov. 8, 2011.
Zambri mixes experimental beats and dueling female vocals with captivating melodies to create unromantic love songs. Filled with gothic and avant-garde pop vocals, the songs might sound familiar, like a lost Siouxsie and the Banshees or Kate Bush classic, but they manage to bring it to an altogether new place. As if remixed by Gang Gang Dance, Zambri lands perfectly amid contemporaries Health, Grimes, Lykke Li, and The Knife.
As sisters, Cristi Jo and Jessica have been creating music together since they were children, always using the Zambri name for several incarnations of recording projects. Glossolalia is the first release they consider all their own, doing things how they want, just the two of them. Most of the sounds on the EP are homemade, many of which are built from vocals, which is perhaps what inspired the title. Glossolalia refers to speaking in tongues; it is a mystical language. They met a like-minded friend in preeminent indie producer Chris Coady, who handpicked Zambri as one of his favorite upcoming New York bands. While Coady scores production credits on “To Keep Back” and “News”, Noel Heroux (Hooray For Earth) lends a hand with mixing “On Call” and “On Call (biddibiddi)”.
To bring Zambri’s radical-pop sound to the stage, the sisters are joined by Will Spitz and Seth Kasper (live drums and keyboard).
