Discover The Undiscovered: Young Liars

“Colours” is a bright electronic track from Young Liars that will not leave your head for hours.
It’s quirky and different, which gives it a fresh aroma. At first it comes off as post-punk, but soon it soars into the glorious territory of electronic. When the two fuse together at the 3 minute mark, it’s a glorious thing.
If you haven’t made your best of 2010 lists yet, you may want to pencil “Colours” in. - We all want someone to shout for
Pushing ‘play’ on a Young Liars track is equivalent to opening the door to a dance party where no one chooses to stay on the sidelines. “We really want our music to be really fun live,” singer/guitarist Jordan Raine tells CMJ from the band’s hometown of Vancouver. With all members having been in various bands before uniting as Young Liars, the five-piece formed last April after their previous projects had dissolved. “We started jamming and good things started happening.”
Coming together over a love of guitar pedals, the group wants to create music that their listeners can dance to. “It’s indie electronic music, but with a bunch of real instruments shoved in there too,” explains Raine. The members draw on their individual experience and tastes, and work on music via a collaborative process. Raine, guitarist Angelo Ismirnioglou and synth player Wesley Nickel come up with sketches of song ideas, share them with the group electronically, and then “jam them out” by adding Tyler Badali’s drums and Andrew Beck’s bass.
As they aim to keep their music fun in a live setting, Young Liars is also hoping to tour down the west cost this summer. “We all really enjoy going to live shows,” said Raine, who along with the rest of the band opts for music he can move to with a steady beat. The group plans to release an EP on February 24 that will include its currently released tracks “Marathon” and “Colours.” - CMJ
Young Liars are, presumably, in the same scene as Oh No! Yoko and Teen Daze, seeing that Teen Daze remixed one of their songs. They are also very much in the same vein as pre-Spanish Sahara Foals, less errattic math-y insectoid guitars, slightly subdued, and definitely more dance. Marathon kicks off like a Bloc Party track off Silent Alarm whereas Colours really really has all the hallmarks of Modest Mouse, in a way that makes me smile.
I turn up my speakers, and smile like I recognize their songs from memory. - Bad Fotography - http://www.bad-fotography.co.uk
Vancouver power post-punk band Young Liars get an ethereal and dreamed out treatment to their new single “Colours.” Already a onslought of anthemic pop similar to Two Door Cinema Club, the remix by fellow Vancouveran Teen Daze turns the track into a nonstop floor stomping dance anthem. Maybe even transporting you to clubs in the United Kingdom drenching the night with house music. This is a song that must download. - Twenty Seven Views
I like it when I get e-mails that are bang on when describing who a band sound like. This track “Colours” by Vancouver’s Young Liars was described as similar to Foals and Miike Snow, which I think is appropriate, possibly the song starting like the latter and ending more in the vein of the former.
The band is currently in Claymore Studios recording an EP to be released later this year. ”Colours” is from earlier this year. Also, blog darlings Teen Daze have put their touch on the bands song, head here to get it. - Indie Music Filter: Chris
They're not your typical shaggy haired, indie-pop, sweater vest-wearing guys. And they certainly aren't another Vancouver-based band you should overlook. Instead Young Liars are 5 guys that have found a way to fuse the sounds of electronic and catchy pop beats to something that doesn't resemble the other 100 bands creating the same sound. Just take a listen to their song "Colours" and you'll start to understand what I'm saying.... - Schema Magazine - Vancouver
