"2 New Options for Live Entertainment in Orlando"

Yella is an a cappella group with an edge. If you are thinking barbershop quartet, or even the Manhattan Transfer, think again. The group’s music selection includes songs from the '80s, '90s, and more recent pop, with an occasional classic rock song thrown in (they do a unique version of “Bohemian Rhapsody”). The five members came together late last summer, when Jana "Banana" Shelfer, a personality on RealRadio 104.1, mentioned on-air that she wanted to start a female a cappella group. A male listener called to express interest, and the group developed from there. In addition to Shelfer, members include Shannon McGhee, Mike Bustillos, A.C. James, and vocal percussionist (i.e. beatboxer) Scott Pausal, who uses the stage name Rubox. Yella charges $500 for a 35-minute set. More information is available on the group’s Facebook page. - Biz Bash

Bio

Yella! was formed by Jana Shelfer aka real radio personality "Jana Banana" looking to form a female vocal group at first. She found Shannon McGhee and practices started in the summer of 2010.

Shannon knew 2 other members from previous music groups she was involved in, Bass vocalist, A.C. James and Tenor/ music arranger, Mike Bustillos. A.C. invited vocal percussionist, Scott Pausal aka Rubox, from a previous vocal group to come and sit in on a rehearsal. Through a couple of jam sessions, the idea of a female vocal group changed to a mix of 3-guys and 2 girls, hence Yella! formed.

The group name, Yella!, came about in that most of the song selection we had were all uptempo where the group put their own edgey rock style which is more than just a singing group but described near yelling hence, Yella!

Their first stint was performing on the Real Radio 104.1 FM on the Philips Phile where they complemented by the host. They then performed at Daytona for Lost Weekend.

In December 2010, they opened up for rock tribute band, Hairball, at House of Blues.

Previously, they performed at Sea World for McDonald's corporation event and then opened up for underground hiphop artist, Blueprint, at Backbooth in February 2011.

2011 also added The Social, Club 57W, Backstage @ the Rosen, The Groove @CityWalk to their venue list, culminating the year at the Wayne Densch Theater in Sanford, FL. There, they sang to a packed house as the opening act for, CASA award winning group, Toxic Audio.

Yella continues to push the envelope of a cappella singing to a diverse crowd with their unique blend of rock, funk, pop and hiphop in and around Florida!
