New Jersey DIY thrash/punk rockers Worldsucks are gearing up for their new album, A Reckoning. This marks the group’s overall sophomore effort, which is the follow-up to 2017’s Warning You With Peace and Love. Guitarist/vocalist Mark Scully and drummer/vocalist Nick D’Amore began in the N.J. hardcore scene in the nineties. Since then, the duo have ventured out to different projects and genres but after a decade of exploration, the two teamed up in 2012 and went back to their heavy roots. A Reckoning is promised to be their most ferocious record to date. They took their frustration on today’s society across the globe by placing it into their feral beats.
Nick comments:
“We wanted to depict our anger and exasperation at the increasingly hellish existence in modern society. But, just hammering on the negative can get pretty dull—even though the record is only 16 minutes! So, there are a couple tunes where we try to pivot toward the changes we want to see and, perhaps, how to get there.”
Mark adds:
“I just knew that this band was different and could be very special, specifically after we wrote ‘Separatist’ (from Warning You With Peace and Love). I am still very fond of some of our older tunes, but I am really proud of, more importantly really like, our newest album. It’s the embodiment of our vision and our views, written and performed with the uncompromising unflinching approach that informs our music and lives—and we are just getting started.”

WORLDSUCKS are fast, loud, and in your face. They are old-school thrash, screamo, hardcore, metal, punk, although they don't care what you call them. They want you to listen and understand that there is a change taking place in the country, and it has been a message they have supported for years.
The music is as in-your-face as it is politically progressive. Listen at your own risk - you might start understanding how the world really works, and why you should fight against racism, fascism, and, believe that we should all be demanding a better world. - Asbury Park Vibes interview
As mentioned, WORLDSUCKS are good friends of mine and I was so happy to be at their first show back in the semi after times. They are a two piece thrash band that sits right in that sweet spot between metal and hardcore punk; they also make absolutely no bones about their political leanings or their stance on any right wing bullshit- their tagline of “loud fast and pissed” isn’t so much a declaration as a way of life. Their music is played at warp speed, punishing riffs paired with machine gun fire double bass drum punctuating some of the heaviest parts of their songs, all wrapped up with a chugging ferocity that can vibrate an entire building never mind just the room.
Not wasting any time to get things kicked all the way up to 100, they started their set immediately firing on all cylinders with the anthem “Punch Yr Local Nazi” which features on their 2020 album A Reckoning. And to make things truly fucking metal, someone in the audience promptly puked as they wrapped up the song for the ultimate crescendo- and trust me, nazis make me want to puke too (it was likely due to the heat rather than the metal AF vibes but who can really say?!) Not letting anything like the expulsion of bodily fluids slow them down**, they lived up to the other part of their tag “unrelenting and unapologetic,” with a blistering set of political ragers that included the debut of the absolutely blazing and brilliantly titled new song “The 1312 Overture,” which featured the repeated screaming of “FUCK NAZI COPS” that had the audience immediately joining in on the chant.
(**note: in all seriousness, all vomit was quickly and thoroughly cleaned up by the folks running the space) - Kate Hoos
Following on from their much-loved 2022 EP ‘Old Fashioned Headbanging’, New York’s WORLDSUCKS are back on the grind once again with their explosive new single ‘No!/Go!’
Bringing back more of that cacophonous thrash-punk sound they are known for, ‘No!/Go!’ makes for an incredible comeback for the group. Filled with blistering riffs and a thunderous pace from start to finish, this new one will have you pumping your fists from start to finish. - Return Of Rock
One thing I love is when hardcore punk crosses over into thrash metal. One thing I hate, is well sometimes the world. Behold: a band after my own heart, New York’s Worldsucks.
ORDER “NO!/GO!” ON BANDCAMP NOW!
A band not only born of friendship but fueled by frustration. And you thought Stevie Wonder wrote songs in the key of life! The band has stated that they seek out to connect with listeners who feel a “similar sense of rage and exasperation,” and I think that “exasperation” is a perfect descriptor of their overall sound.
The band is heading out on a U.S. East Coast tour in a couple weeks starting May 17th, and with them, they are bringing a new 7″ vinyl of their latest single, “NO!/GO!” Even better news, you ask? It’s actually out today digitally on Bandcamp. Cherry on top that makes this even more of a kick ass release? The band is coupling it with raising money at each leg of the tour to help raise money for regional abortion funds.
Mark (guitar/vocals) and Nick (drums/vocals) have been friends and playing music for 30 years. At some point bassist Tony Doucet joined, and the band has been enthusiastic about his creative contributions on upcoming work in anticipation of an eight-track album due out sometime in 2025.
Lyrically, “NO!/GO!” is a call to action of sorts, going beyond our critiques and observations and posing the question “what’s the way forward?” The band declares that it’s not, what Bob Dylan once described of his early work, one of those “finger-pointin’ songs.” Rather, the band offers this insight (which I thought was pretty cool):
“Our fingers are not pointed at each other, but at the new path we should all be on”
The new single also features a second track, “No Fucks Given,” a heavy song in every aspect figuratively and literally. Underneath the racous posterior of chugging guitars and crash cymbols, it’s ultimatley a tribute to a close friend of Mark’s who has passed away. This person’s memorable and authentic persona lives on in this tune, one the band describes as “the eulogy Mark didn’t get to say.” Do yourself a favor and catch Worldsucks on tour and get a hold of this exclusive 7″ vinyl record here:
he new single won’t be dropping on streaming services, so check out the band’s Bandcamp page and keep up with their link tree for updates. You can also hear Worldsucks in rotation on AMS Radio during “Indie Anarchy,” “Punked,” and Thursday’s “LT1KF Indie Hour” showtimes.

It’s the kind of Saturday where the sun is shining, my windows are open, and I’m deep in work mode. It’s not often that this happens on weekends but why question a good thing. The only thing missing from this perfect “get shit done” kind of day is a new soundtrack but “No!/Go!” from WORLDSUCKS is stepping in to help that out.
WORLDSUCKS” is going on tour to promote their new 7″ with a goal of raising money at each stop for regional abortion funds. Although they won’t be making it up here to the Twin Cities, I figured I could still support them the only way I know how and that is sharing their music with you but, just a couple of seconds into this track and you will realize that this song speaks for itself. This song comes at you fast and continues for nearly five minutes at a break-neck speed. This makes the song both fly by and makes it a track that will fill you with energy and aggression in all of the right ways. I couldn’t help myself but stand up from my desk and start two-stepping in my dining room as I let this song play at top volume. Like I said, this song hits and it hits hard so brace yourself and be ready for a classic “at-home moshpit” kind of song. More importantly, let’s show this band some love. They are playing their music for a cause and it’s a cause that I, personally, support with all of my heart. -

The world sucks—but it doesn't have to. WORLDSUCKS is a band born from friendship and fueled by frustration. Our songs and shows deal with the injustices of the world, channeling our own fury and seeking out others who feel a similar sense of rage and exasperation. This is activism rock, just one action of many we're trying to take to stand up for the liberation of all people. We are not hopeless—justice is inevitable.
WORLDSUCKS is the ongoing evolution of 30 years of friendship and music making between Mark (guitar/vocals) and Nick (drums/vocals). Our music expands and deepens along with our consciousness. As part of that sonic exploration comes Tony Doucet, whose bass playing and creativity is adding new dimensions to the WORLDSUCKS sound. Now it's 2024 and we are armed with a new single, "NO!/GO!", that showcases our progression and our way forward, ferocious and frustrated as ever at the world around us. Eight new sonic onslaughts will be recorded this year, with a new album due out in 2025.
WORLDSUCKS is heavy music for heavy times. Power to the people.
