Woodmen Hall Wins Battle of the Bands at FAU 2008

(STUART, Florida) - Experimental rock takes a dark turn with Florida based fledglings Woodmen Hall. Citing influences such as Neutral Milk Hotel and Sigur Ros, the four-piece is releasing an album of their dark, dreamy lullabies and touring this summer to support material on their debut LP, Into the Swine, Into the Sea. Their brand of rock brings beauty, aggression, and shivering melodies into one honest idea of the reality in this world" (GOLDEN PRESS REVIEW, Seattle).

2010 has birthed something unique. A group of artists, stepping out as visionaries with heart, talent and a loud, mind violating sound are on the move. 2010 has given us Woodmen Hall! Woodmen Hall has a cohort, a industry fanbase, and a killer debut album that gets better and better every time you push play. After great reviews from their performance at Red Gorilla Music fest during SXSW 2010, Woodmen Hall is ready to take their posse to CMJ and beyond.

Having recorded in Florida with Andrew Wade, and mixed in Dallas with John Congleton (Modest Mouse, Explosions in the Sky,Clinic, The Thermals, Polyphonic Spree) and mastered by Doug Van Sloun, their debut record, "Into the Swine Into the Sea" has a heavy hitting personality al of its own.

Woodmen Hall found their name on the overhead glass of their 1917 practice space. Playing night after night in a down town Stuart historic building, complete with original windows, termites, hurricanes and random drunk homeless people rocking out to their jams calling empty threats, the band realized it would be a mortal mistake not to name themselves after the practice space that gave them their stories.

One such story sounds much like a Roy Orbison song. As the band was half way through their rehearsal, they looked out on the outside stair window to see a intoxicated homeless man blowing his mouth on the glass. As they approached the man he assured them that it was "natural" to let him inside so he could teach them the bass guitar skills he had learned from his friends cousins cousin from the band known as Poison. After asking him to shuffle off as they could not or would not let him in the building, he again assured them that he could be trusted due to his having killed people and fought in "the wars in england".

Woodmen Hall is no slave to ordinary instruments. Apart from the usual 4 piece, ryth guitar, lead guitar, drums and bass, they sport a guitar played with a bow a la Jimmy paige or Jonsi from Sigur Ros. Other unique tools of the trade such as ships bells, drum sticks, harmonica mics, and floor organ pedals have been spotted on the stage as well.

With a stage performance similar to Nirvana, Sonic Youth, Madona, and even Elvis, the gents of Woodmen Hall have no problem engaging the crowd as well enjoying their own music. Like Dinosaur Jr, these guys are firm believers that a show should be felt and heard for days after its completion.
