"Musicology: Williams & Company on a Saturday Night"

I know I've been on a blues kick lately, but Saturday night my brother-in-law Chad Barger invited me to make a trip up to see country band Williams & Company at Bud n' Tooties in New Philadelphia.
Chad is a cousin of Lorne VanFossen, a talented guitarist who passed away a few months ago. Lorne's son, Sam, is a member of Williams & Company. Like his father, Sam is a talented guitar player. Sam (guitar/vocals), along with Alex Williams (Guitar/lead vocals), Daniel Pendergraft (keyboards/vocals) and Lucas Moomaw (drums) are enjoying success in the country music world. The show was a homecoming for Sam who grew up in Uhrichsville.
The guys met when they were students at Belmont University. They immediately hit it off and started practicing all the time. Even though they all came from different parts of the country they have been able to combine their talents. Williams is from Indiana, Pendergraft from Texas and Moomaw from North Carolina.
Saturday night at Bud's the guys went through a number of covers and original music. Sam definitely had a lot of hometown support. Williams & Company had played in Dennison on Friday night, as well. I really liked a cover of "The Weight" by The Band. VanFossen had a fantastic guitar solo during that number.
Williams has a powerful voice and when VanFossen and Pendergraft add their backing vocals it makes for a great sound. Check out the group's video called "Dancing on Ashes." I had the opportunity to hear this one Saturday night and really think it showcases the group's talent.

Williams & Company released their initial album - self titled "Williams & Company" - in 2012. I'm sure more will be on the way. No doubt that Lorne is looking down from heaven at Sam with a huge smile on his face. - Times Reporter

"Honky-tonk Heroes"

Not that long ago, Lucas Moomaw was playing drums in the band The Jolly Rogers with some of his friends at Watauga High School. These days, Moomaw is still drumming, but in country band Williams & Company, a four-piece outfit trying to break it big in Nashville.

Williams & Company will return to Moomaw’s old stomping ground for a show at Murphy’s Restaurant and Pub in Boone on Friday, July 13. The band will perform at 10:30 p.m., and the Lost Ridge Band will open the show at 9:30 p.m.

Williams & Company recently released its debut album, aptly titled “Williams & Company.”

The band features Moomaw on drums, Alex Williams on guitar and vocals, Sam Vanfossen on electric guitar and vocals, and Daniel Pendergraft on piano and vocals. The new CD features Benjamin Loy on bass guitar. Williams also wrote all of the songs on the new album.

“Williams and Company” is a timeless honky-tonk country album in the mode of Dwight Yoakum or early Garth Brooks. Buoyed by Williams’ expressive and seasoned-sounding vocals, the band cranks out tales of barrooms, money-grubbing girlfriends and true love.

The slow-burning “Dancing on Ashes” wraps a gorgeous melody around a sad story of love’s last chapter. “Devil’s Queen” is an open invitation to the dance floor for some serious up-tempo boot scootin’.

On “Back to My Heart,” the band mixes straight-up country with some hot electric guitar that would’ve been right at home on an early Lynyrd Skynyrd album.

One of the amazing things about Williams and Company and their new CD is how seasoned and professional they sound for a bunch of college kids. Moomaw, a rising junior at Belmont University in Nashville, joined the other guys in the band last year.

“We are students, and we play music for everyone,” Williams said. “It doesn’t make a difference if you’re young or old, punk or prep. We do this for the people who want to have a good time on their only night off from work. We’re about meeting new friends, building a brighter future for all and playing music. We believe it is more important now than ever for role-models to give back into the communities they serve; therefore, we vow to donate a meaningful percentage of all sales and earnings to local charities and non-profits that keep music programs in schools. The most important thing to these guys is spreading positivity through music and standing up for the community.” - See more at: http://mountaintimes.com/columns-album-reviews/articles/Honky-tonk-Heroes-id-023052#sthash.DoMQWKqe.dpuf - Mountain Times

Bio

Howdy y'all!

We're a country band from Nashville. We are Alex Williams, Sam VanFossen, Daniel Pendergraft, and Lucas Moomaw - we are Williams & Company.

We're bringing about a new spin on the old western, playing a unique country blues style with a fresh take on the traditional sounds. In June of 2013, we embarked on our first independent tour through the Lone Star State, bringing our outlaw country vibes through Texas. We continue to play in local bars and venues in Nashville, while also travelling to the Boone, NC, Columbus, OH, Carmel, IN, and Atlanta, GA areas.

We recorded our debut, self-titled album, “Williams & Company,” in March of 2012 at Beech Creek Studios in Brentwood, TN. You can purchase this album on iTunes, and its also available streaming on Spotify.
