Western Skies is one of Denton’s greatest under-appreciated bands. Catch them at a house show and you’ll remember then until your synapses stop firing. That’s due, in part, to the way they’ve blended classic folk, rock, and Americana elements into something that defies any one classification. They’re even known to toss in a dash of surf rock once in a while, which sent the crowd at Sweetwater into a shark-meets-steak kind of frenzy. - Little D

Bio
Western Skies started as a solo project for singer/songwriter Michael McMahon which gradually grew into a collective group effort to write and play songs that combine old Folk and Americana influences with a modern sound in order to create a familiar style of music of which a diverse audience can enjoy. What sets Western Skies apart from most bands is that our style is ever changing during our set. We play country songs reminiscent of Johnny Cash or Townes Van Zandt, surf rock songs that evoke the spirit of The Cramps, and 50's rock and roll bringing back the sounds and inspiration of Sam Cooke. All of these styles we weave effortlessly with one another and the product is a truly unique concert experience.
