Bio
Denis Osborne (vocals and guitar), Dee Mcgrudy (hammond organ and vocals), Richard Easeman (bass) and Ed Phillips (drums) have been kicking around Stoke Newington playing together, drinking together and knocking into shape an eclectic sound that touches on the ire of Mclusky, and the skewed sensibilities of Super Furry Animals or Pavement, but maintains a sense of mischief that’s very much their own.
‘We want to make something that’s not held back by the limitations so many bands seem to impose on themselves by saying “we want to sound like whoever,”' explains Osborne, speaking carefully in a soft Lancastrian burr. ‘It’s so easy to just pick a template off the peg, but we’d never be so cynical.'
Osborne is a soulboy who fell out of soul, he says, when he decided that 'it didn't hold any surprises anymore.' You get the sense that in another life he could’ve been a latter-day Kevin Rowland, drawing up new manifestos on the back of beermats, pushing his way to notoriety through sheer force of personality. And sure enough, you can hear echoes of Dexys in the ebullient yelps of their broadside at the tyranny of apathy, the self-produced Drown the Noise Out
