Bio
The sounds in pop music are sparser and cleaner now than they have ever been before. Mainstream pop music has embraced minimalism to a stark degree; this is largely thanks to a few massively influential artists who rose to prominence around 2012/2013 and who shared a more minimalistic pop sensibility. This musical approach - one built on suggestion and crystalline production more so than sheer bombast - has since assumed a sort of cultural prevalence. More than that, minimalism has muscled its way into the definition of that infuriatingly amoebic and elusive term: "cool."
Minimalistic songs were cool. In the hands of many adept artists - especially those (unnamed) who first steered it to the forefront of mainstream pop - they are still quite effective. But their style is no longer a rarity in and of itself; they once offered a reprieve from the ubiquitous sledgehammering of EDM and dance-pop, and now they are equally as pervasive. As minimalism has permeated pop music more and more, the subversion which made it refreshing has started to evaporate, replaced instead with only the vaguest shadow of a feeling that these sonic structures are still meant to evince "coolness" for reasons that are just beyond our grasp.
We believe pop music is ready for something that isn't afraid to be messy, unrestrained, and expressive. We used to think that modern pop by definition necessitated clean edges and immaculate surfaces, and that there was no space for a band like vverevvolf, with its love of imperfection. But pop by no means is a stable genre - as a matter of fact, we would argue that it has historically been the most adventurous and adaptable genre of them all. So why not change pop again?
We think its time. Let the vvild rumpus start.
