Louisville dance rock band Uh-Huh Baby Yeah! is in the running to open for music icons at Hard Rock's Battle of the Bands 2011 event, but it needs your help first.
You can cast your vote for the group to take the stage at the Hard Rock Calling musical celebration in London June 24-26. Held in Hyde Park, the event will feature performances by Rod Stewart,
Bon Jovi and Stevie Nicks.
Uh-Huh Baby Yeah! includes Kevin Fletcher (lead singer), Sean Smith (drummer), John Braboy (rhythm guitarist), Chris Armstrong (bass), Johnny Goebel (lead guitarist) and Jon Cox (keyboards). The group has performed at a variety of local hot spots, including Headliners Music Hall, Phoenix Hill Tavern and Uncle Pleasant's.

Some relationships are like a knee-weakening addiction. It’s that sort of inter-personal addiction that has held Kevin Fletcher, Chris Armstrong and Sean Smith, the core of Uh-Huh Baby Yeah!, together since 2004. They’ve broken up, gotten back together, changed names, and experimented with genres time and again; but three years ago, with the addition of guitarists John Braboy and Johnny Blaze, things began to come into focus. Now, after releasing their debut EP, Sex Panther!, last year, Uh-Huh Baby Yeah! is ready for the world to hear their first full-length album, Til Death Do Us Party, coming out on Little Heart Records in May. Louisville, Ky. - To celebrate Hard Rock’s 40th Anniversary the brand has launched its first global Battle of the Bands – giving local-emerging artists a chance to open for icons at Hard Rock Calling in London. Hard Rock, along with celebrity judges Pete Wentz and Steven Van Zandt, selected 40 bands from all over the world including Louisville’s own Uh Huh Baby Yeah as finalists for the competition.
The grand-prize winner will perform live on the main stage at Hard Rock Calling 2011 in London’s Hyde Park – and get a spot on the bill with some of the world’s biggest acts, which include Bon Jovi, Train and Rod Stewart.
The top 40 acts (including Uh Huh Baby Yeah) are up on www.hardrock.com for fans to vote on and decide who has what it takes to make it to the big stage.

The stage is set, but YOU decide who takes it! Fans worldwide can log on to HardRock.com to check out video performances of Hard Rock’s Battle of the Band’s top 40 and vote for their favorites. Based on fan voting, four finalists will be flown to London, treated like rock stars and given a spot on the bill at Hard Rock Calling 2011 in London’s Hyde Park; but only one band will open for one of the festival’s iconic headliners on the Main Stage! The Pre-Qualifiers – Road to Hard Rock Calling
To celebrate Hard Rock’s 40th Anniversary, the brand launched its largest Battle of the Bands competition ever – spanning the world in search of music’s next big talent! Bands who made it to the online consumer voting phase fought their way to Hard Rock’s top 40, besting their rivals in a series of local battles at Hard Rock Cafe locations in 68 cities in 24 countries to become their city’s local nominee. Each nominee was then assessed by a panel of acclaimed industry experts, including Little Steven Van Zandt of the legendary E Street Band, Pete Wentz of hit rock group Fall Out Boy, Live Nation Vice President of Promotions Toby Leighton-Pope, Hard Rock International Chief Marketing Officer John Galloway and Absolute Radio Director of Marketing Clare Baker, who narrowed down the field to the 40 acts with the most star potential.

Hard Rock Calling, the three-day musical celebration being held on from Friday, June 24 through Sunday, June 26, with more than a dozen top bands performing each day on two stages, has established itself as one of the most important London events on the UK musical calendar over the last five years. Uh-Huh Baby Yeah! is the perfect band to listen to when getting ready to go out on the town or for background music at a party. Their music makes you want to get up and shake it on the dance floor. Members of the band, Kevin Fletcher (vocals), Sean Smith (drums), John Braboy (guitar), Chris Armstrong (bass), and Johnny Goebel (guitar), get together and play music that they love and that they know their fans will love to party too. They have had a big year so far and 2011 is looking to be even bigger for these guys. I asked lead singer Kevin Fletcher some questions about the band and their future. Read the entertaining answers below for some laughs.
Q. What was your reasoning behind changing your name from “Creatures!” to “Uh-huh Baby Yeah!”?
A. We’ve never had good luck with band names and with the emergence of another band of the same name signing to Eulogy records, we knew our days as Creatures! were numbered. So we decided to name our band after our first single “Uh Huh Baby Yeah” that way we’d never have to worry about having the same band name as someone else ever again… plus it sounds sexy.
Q. You were just recently signed to indie label “Little Heart Records”, are you
guys excited about the opportunity to have the chance for you music to be
heard by a larger audience?
A. Our main goal has always been to try to reach as many people as possible, and this label has really helped us. Our current record is now available worldwide thanks to digital mediums like iTunes and Amazon (iLike, Shockhound, Napster, email me and I’ll burn you a copy, etc. etc.). Our goal is to be on every iPod in existence.
Q. You guys have an E.P. out called, “Sex Panther!”. It definitely grabbed my
attention. Is there any meaning behind it?
A. Besides an obvious Anchorman reference, we chose the name because its fun, and we don’t take ourselves too seriously. And also because our music is mostly about chasing women and being party animals. Sex Panther.
Q. Is there a full-length album in talks for release?
A. Most Definitely. We are heading to New York for two weeks this October to do our full length titled “Till Death Do Us Party” with producer Joe Costable (Neon Trees, InnerParty System, Good Charlotte). It’s more a continuation of “Sex Panther!”, with a little more party. There will be between 10-12 tracks on the record with only 2 or 3 from the EP. LOTS of new tunes.
Q. What does the year 2011 hold for the band?
A. We’ll be doing a lot of promotion for “Till Death Do Us Party”. The album will drop in March, with extensive touring to follow. Signing with a larger label, the shows getting bigger and better. We also foresee: Radio Play. TV Appearances. Music Videos. VMA awards. Drinking with Ke$ha. Getting turned down by Taylor Swift. Buying a yacht. Touring Japan. Quitting our day jobs, some of us moving out of our mom’s house, others getting bigger houses.
Q. What has been your favorite show you guys have ever played?
A. We always enjoy the shows where we get to play with either our friends’ bands or when we play with established artists, so when we did Warped Tour in 2009 it was an awesome mix of both. One particular date we were in Cincinnati, it was pouring rain all morning, and just as we played, the sun came out, and we played our little Ernie Ball stage to around 1,000 kids. On previous dates, we had played to maybe 100 at best. It was absolutely amazing, and if we didn’t have the pictures to prove it, we probably would have thought it was all a dream.
Q. Is there a favorite city you all have played in?
A. Hmmm… anywhere in North Carolina. The state breeds talented bands. And everyone is always so nice, whether its a fan (we do well in NC), a random person in the audience, or a member of one the supporting bands. We have made such good connections/friendships/bromances that will stay with us forever. Shout out to our NC homies in Secret Lives!, RBTS Win!, Harvard, Nova Echo, the Campaign 1984, En Serenade, and Embracing Goodbye.
Q. Who are some of your biggest influences?
A. We absolutely love Michael Jackson, always have from little up. You may be able to tell that by Sean’s sweet MJ tattoo! Other bands/artists we’re obsessed with are Queen, Motley Crue, Saves The Day, Jimmy Eat World, Glassjaw, just to name a few.
Q. If you could pick any band to open for, who would it be and why?
A. Michael Jackson and/or Queen. You would be in the essence of arguably the single greatest artists, singers, musicians that have ever lived.
Q. If you were stranded on an island for the rest of your life and could only
bring one of your songs to listen to, which one would it be and why?
A. We have quite a few brand new songs in the works.. but ultimately it would have to be “Uh Huh Baby Yeah”. Its a party starter, and our namesake, and hopefully we could use it to seduce Kate, Claire, Sun, Juliet, or some of t - Sounds That Matter

"All my friends are dead. Hope that you like living with regret, because you're just lying to yourselves."
It's a story we all know too well. All bands fall on conflict and most never live long enough to tell the tale. In this case, what seemed to be the beginning of the end only breathed fresh air into a band that is just getting started.
For Uh Huh Baby Yeah!, conflict is all part of the bigger equation. "We've seen so much turmoil and for the longest time it was hard to rise above it", says singer Kevin Fletcher, "And it shows in our music. We're coming back harder, faster, heavier - this is a side of us you've never seen."
Coming off the release of their debut album, Till Death Do Us Party, the guys in UHBY! were unsure of where to go at first. "There were two ways this next set of tunes could go", replies Sean Smith, the brains behind the rhythm section, "We could essentially make Till Death (Do Us Party) part 2, or we could take elements we enjoyed from it and utilize our experiences to make a more mature, well rounded album. We chose the latter."

Ranging from subjects of heartache, divorce, revenge and reawakening, UHBY! have a lot more to say on this release than ever before. The recently released single, "Dead Friends" tackles the departure of their guitarist and bass player head on. The song bangs from the start and infects you with the catchiest of choruses. Pronouncing all of your friends "dead" isn't something most people take lightly. But, the boys are just heating up.
Other songs included on their upcoming release are party anthem "Dances With Wolves", revenge jam "Whores Will Be Whores" and the jazz infused ballad "Ocean of You". “There’s a more mature theme to this album than the last”, says guitarist John Braboy, “Don’t get me wrong – we still love to party. But, we’ve grown up a bit. We have more to talk about.”
Uh Huh Baby Yeah! have just wrapped shooting on the video for “Dead Friends”, are headed to the studio to start production on the new album this November and will follow with a tour upon the release of the album in March. They’re amped, excited and ready to take over the world. After everything they’ve experienced, UHBY! have issued a call to action:
“We rise to the occasion. Where the f*ck are you now?”
