Bio
Born in small town at the middle of Java Island Indonesia known as “Semarang” with full name Tony Waluyo Sukma Asih.
Tony had played reggae music since 1989 start from café to café or live event in Jakarta the capital city of Indonesia, formerly play with band format known as Rastafara.
Tony was the leader of the band who became inspiration for the other player to keep playing reggae, cause at that time, reggae still known as minority kind of music in Indonesia which identically with marijuana, drunk, illegal, etc.
After seven years long waiting, the band release their first album in 1996 with the album title “rambut gimbal”, at that time the band were famous as the first Indonesian reggae band which could release an reggae album with Indonesian style, basically the reggae music mixed with the Indonesian traditional music instrument such “Gamelan”, Sundanese Percussion, and many more
Most of the song was created by Tony, one of the hit single “rambut gimbal” (same as the album title) has made an unique story. The title “rambut gimbal” become so popular and then added to Indonesian Dictionary be the translation of Dreadlock Hair Style.
In1997 the second album “Gue Falling in love”released, in this album he start to created theme of songs not just about Love but also which have close relationship with Life, Humanity, Nature, Poverty, and all of theme which had related to Social Problem, two years after the second album release the band Rastafara decided to vacuum for uncertain time, so Tony decided to play solo but keep the name of rastafara as the identity and brand image of himself.
Three years in solo careers, Tony try to prove his existence in reggae music with release his third album with title “Damai Dengan Cinta” in year 2000. This album brings him to the peak performance of his music careers in Reggae Music, because this album an assistant professor of music from United States promoted him to perform in Bob Marley Festival in United States as headliners performer, but the plan was failed because Visa permit couldn’t raised by the US embassy in Indonesia for security reason.
His Fourth Album released in year 2003 with the title “Kronologi”. It’s a mix of the old song and the new song, but still makes his fanatic fans always waiting for his album. Tony have plan to release his new album in year 2005 with the new concept of arrangement and album, in the new album Tony try to mix reggae music with Traditional Instruments and Strings Orchestra Sound. But still defend the ethnic styles; there are songs which perform in traditional language of Indonesia tribe “Javanese” and “Sundanese”.
For more than ten years struggle with his idealism in reggae music, his consistency of playing reggae music put him as the legend of Reggae Music in Indonesia, and become Inspiration and motivation for youth reggae musician generation in Indonesia to keep the existence of Indonesia Reggae Music which had been a minority music to have recognition from Indonesia people.
