When her first sin­gle “With Me” hit the streets in 2005 fans were amazed by its pow­er­ful com­bi­na­tion of mod­ern R&B with the sweet sound of Reg­gae and Soul. Tonya P has truly become the voice for young women across the globe. She has a unique style that is adored by many and a voice that is com­pa­ra­ble to none.

Tonya was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, where she began singing in her high school music pro­duc­tions at the age of 14. Tonya was always very much influ­enced by Reg­gae singers Bob Mar­ley, Den­nis Brown, and Mar­cia Grif­fiths not to men­tion the R&B singers of her time?—?Whit­ney Hous­ton, Mary j Blige and Faith Evans to name a few. How­ever com­ing from a Jamaican back­ground gave her the abil­ity to feel and also relate to the Reg­gae culture.

This young lady has the remark­able gift of writ­ing lyrics that reach out and touch masses regard­less of age or gen­der. Tonya has already exceeded the expec­ta­tions of female Toronto Reg­gae artists and now plans to raise the bar as far as it can go. When asked about her inspi­ra­tion for her music she quickly responded “Three things?–?Life, Love and Pain.” It is evi­dent that Tonya’s music comes from the heart with a pure truth that every­one can relate to. The new sin­gle “Love, Love, Love” has recently been released and has been receiv­ing rave reviews along with heavy air­play on Toronto’s top Reg­gae pro­grams. On Feb­ru­ary 6 of this year Tonya P had the plea­sure of per­form­ing on the Bob Mar­ley Birth­day Bash in Negril Jamaica, she per­formed in the star time seg­ment along­side some of the hottest reg­gae artists in the busi­ness today such as Luciano, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel and Gypt­ian. What’s next for this artist you ask? Tonya plans to do many more live shows both locally and inter­na­tion­ally to get the world more famil­iar with the soon to be Reg­gae Super­star. Apart from live per­for­mances, Tonya plans to con­tinue writ­ing real music with a real mes­sage that will be show­cased on the highly antic­i­pated album that is sched­uled to release very soon. - Big Up Radio
