"A new band on the kindie scene proves that breaking up isn't always hard to do."

Rock & roll history is littered with sideman departures. Kids' music? Not so much, which makes Tim Kubart and Matt Puckett's story all the more intriguing. In 2009 the pair bid an amicable farewell to popular NYC band the Jimmies to launch Tim and the Space Cadets.

To the pop-attuned ear, the Cadets' five-song debut EP, The Greatest Party Ever, may sound familiar. That's no accident. Kubart says he and Puckett "set out to achieve a Jimmy Eat World level of catchy power pop that pleases five-year-olds as well as their 15-year-old siblings."

Before hitting the kindie scene, Kubart pursued a career as an actor—which he continues today with roles like Spencer on the Teen.com sitcom Haute & Bothered, a soap-style drama about students at a fashion-design school. The Cadets followed Kubart's lead and turned to the Internet when they were ready to release their first music video, "Superhero." The emo-tinged track benefits from bandmember Chris Larkin's pristine guitar licks and ethereal female harmonies from keyboardist Kim Davis and drummer Gabby Arciero. The video presents the cape-clad band in glorious high-def, allowing their squeaky-clean look to win kids over as the choral hook gets stuck in their little noggins.

Even without visual accompaniment, the album is catchy from start to finish. On the synth-rock jam "New Game," lines like "I don't know where to kick the ball, how to get a point, or what that means," will have little ones nodding along. And the wistful, ukulele-strummed "When I Grow Up" proves that the high-energy Space Cadets can also travel to the tender side of the kiddie universe with winsome aplomb. - Time Out New York

Tim and the Space Cadets are a "fun loving power pop party that manifests everything amazing about being a kid." (Gapersblock.com)

Their first single "Superhero" hit number one on the XMKiDs chart just a month after it was released, and stayed at number one for 6 weeks. It has been described as "the kind of song every kid's artist dreams of writing." (Outwiththekids.com)

The secret to their success is an ability to craft songs that exclude no one. Their crowds are an anomaly for the kindie music scene. Along with the families that fill the audience, there are consistently fans from their teens well into their 20's singing along to every word. They have achieved "a level of catchy power pop that pleases five-year-olds as well as their 15-year-old siblings." (Time Out New York)

Tim Kubart formed Tim and the Space Cadets in 2009 after four years as a professional kids' musician, and set out to make radio-friendly pop rock for all ages.

The Space Cadets have built up a huge following in New York City, where the crowds shout back the lyrics and kids dance and have the time of their lives. They've started to expand to the rest of the country -- their biggest show to date was Lollapalooza in 2010. Tim's legendary energy is infectious; he's been called the "Mick Jagger of family music." (New York Family)

The Space Cadets debut album "The Greatest Party Ever" is inspired by memories of school days, snow days, and pizza parties. It weaves witty, fun, and heartwarming lyrics through textured pop tunes, rockers, and lullabies which "prove that the high-energy Space Cadets can also travel to the tender side of the kiddie universe with winsome aplomb." (Time Out New York)
