Threshold Moody Blues Tribute
Seattle, Washington, United States
Bio
Seattle-based THRESHOLD is a group of five seasoned pro rock musicians who pay homage to an enduring, much loved and still touring extraordinary international act: THE MOODY BLUES.
The Threshold project blossomed in early 2011 after months of rehearsals, with the band delighting large and appreciative audiences at several major Seattle-Tacoma area festivals, including the Bite of Seattle, the Taste of Tacoma, and Issaquah Salmon Days, as well as at more intimate venues, including Vashon Island's trendy The Red Bicycle.
In addition to recreating The Moody Blues 'greatest hits' spanning three decades and 10+ albums, Threshold thrills audiences by performing the entire second side of the seminal 1967 release DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED, which opens with Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?), progresses through Evening: Time To Get Away, Evening: The Sunset, Evening: Twilight Time and ultimately NIGHTS IN WHITE SATIN, closing with the Graeme Edge poem Late Lament: "Breathe deep the gathering gloom..."
Fans often remark in amazement about Threshold's faithful studio version renditions: lush 3 and 4 part vocal harmony, driving rhythm section, spot-on leads, and unexpectedly rich orchestration produced without sequencing in real time by only four hands with multiple keyboard and guitar synthesizers.
Guitarist/vocalist JOHN LUND began performing in the late 70’s, gigging the Pioneer Square club scene with hard rockers Hostage. Soon after, he co-founded The Plugs who were regulars in the Tacoma club scene. He then formed Rescue who recorded an original single named “A Child’s Heart” which received local airplay. From the 90’s John played with The Flashbacks, The Spotlights and The Paperback Riders. John is an extraordinarily ardent Moody Blues fan and has personally met the band.
Keyboardist/guitarist DAVID COLIN HARE hails from Seattle with a lengthy performance history spanning four decades, appearing with such Northwest favorites as Revolver, Delta, Tim Turner Band, Tommy Knockers and The Night Riders. David is a gifted keyboardist and guitarist, and it was his great affinity for the Moody Blues and dedication to mastering their musically challenging material that led to the formation of Threshold.
Bassist/vocalist TOM DiNUZZO came of age in northern California and performed with The New Generation, Airborne, and Sunstone, playing guitar and later bass. After moving to the Northwest in the mid 70’s Tom joined Westberg/Laughman and recorded several of their original compositions at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville. He later played with Sloe Motion, Yesterdays Papers and Rebop. From the late 90’s he played for several years with the Evinrudes and backed MITCH RYDER at the Issaquah music festival in the summer of 2000.
Drummer/vocalist RICK BERINATO is a consummate musician and performer of many years, instructing others in the art as well. A prolific songwriter, Rick drummed, sang lead and harmony vocals while playing with rock, funk, blues, swing and country bands that he says groomed him for the tremendous variety of Moody Blues material. Says Rick “playing their songs allows us to transmit the positive vibe that seems to exude from the Moodies’ DNA”.
Guitarist/synth-guitarist/keyboardist/vocalist TOM MULLIN previously played in Western Washington with KG3, Gray Sky Falling, Born to Be Wild, and Hardrive before joining Threshold. He backed GOLDY McJOHN, original keyboardist for STEPPENWOLF, in 2008. In 2000-2002 he toured the upper Midwest with The Hits featuring DENNIS PROVISOR, famously of THE GRASS ROOTS, and as a teen he played in several bands with boyhood friend, now the world's most recorded drummer, 5 time Grammy Winner (with Chaka Khan and Rufus), and tour drummer to the stars (Streisand, Clapton, etc.) JOHN JR ROBINSON.
