"Easily one of the best records of any genre I've heard this Millennium! The YaYas will have a Hell of a time topping this one, but I'd never bet against them-- they're that talented and that good. I'm tempted to make every other song on my iPod either "Third Girl from the Left" or "You Should Go." If there's a God, there's a Gold Record in their future." - Robin Batteau

"Catherine Miles' clear voice is the trio's best asset, pleasantly unaffected and clear. Her vocals are cushioned by Jay Mafale on guitar and Paul Silverman's keyboards. Six of the ten songs on this release were co-writes from the trio. A running theme in many songs is the notion that we guide our own vessels; we are captains of our own ships." - Reviewer: Angela Page

"Draped in expressive vocals and solid accompaniment on guitar and keys, The YaYas brought a gift to those in attendance... a gift of well and cleverly crafted music, coupled with a candidness and approachability on stage that just drew the audience into their performance. A style of their own, I couldn't tell where their originals ended and covers began, as they took ownership of every song. A true night of entertainment!"

“Paper Boats from The YaYas is a wonderfully fresh recording that offers slice-of-life songs with grace and style. It was one of my favorite recordings of 2010. Catherine Miles' vocals are original, complimented by stunning, tasteful arrangements. Jay Mafale and Paul Silverman team up with Miles to blend in a way that brings it all together. In Paper Boats, they bring you to YaYa Land. It's worth the trip."

“The songs of this trio are wise and moving, the melodies poignant ... Front and center, Catherine's voice conveys every emotional nuance, like a painter whose brush bleeds sepia and autumn gold.”
- Richard Cuccaro
"Count me among the newest fans of The YaYas since your performance at the Pleasantville Music Festival on Saturday ... There was never a minute when the audience was anything less than rapt during your set..."

"Singer Catherine Miles' vocal style is simultaneously voluptuous and ethereal, drawing the listener into the full emotion of the stories she sings. Guitarist Jay Mafale and keyboard player Paul Silverman deftly weave their instruments together in a richness that belies the fact that there are only two instruments in the band. Their original material showcases their considerable talent, exquisite melodies, and intelligent lyrics." - Amy Tuttle

"The YaYas were on their game... the 3 piece finds a cozy place in a musical depot similar to Union Station. A strong opening set from these folks." - JezebelMusic.com

Bio
Two-time Kerrville New Folk Finalists and "Most Wanted" Falcon Ridge Emerging Artists, The YaYas are an engaging and uplifting trio hailing from New York's Hudson Valley region. Are they folk? Yes. Pop? Perhaps. But undeniably, they are personal. “They report on life observed, with great insight, not just centering on relationships but ranging widely — reminiscent of ‘literary’ songwriters like Richard Shindell, Dar Williams...” Their songs are stories we are all familiar with: the loss of a parent, the humorous ups and downs of marriage, the dreams of youth, the gift of friendship… Through subtle yet skillful arrangements, the powerful and expressive voice of Catherine Miles, Jay Mafale’s percussive guitar, and Paul Silverman’s melodic piano blend to create their distinctive sound. The trio’s release, Paper Boats, received airplay on more than 125 radio stations and rose to #4 on Roots Music Report’s Folk Top 50 albums chart.
