Good hell did November pick up the pace from last month, as we've got five releases to talk about today. The first one we need to address slipped past us and we need to sorely correct that as best we can. The Wayne Hoskins Band has a brand new EP out titled Breaking Here. Probably one of the harder working festival bands, they started out doing random covers in 2008 and progressed nicely into writing their own music. Not exactly what you would call a “traditional” rock band, but the sound has that mix of early 90's anthem and newer ballad driven work, perfect for large crowds and the ever persistent Bic-lighter-held-high moments. They actually held their release show last Saturday at Squatters, to what I understand was a fairly good crowd. As of right now you can only find this album over at Slowtrain. - Salt Lake City Weekly

It's kind of amazing that Melody didn't meet Tyler Forsberg sooner.
The 27-year-olds both grew up in the small town of Logan, graduated from high school the same year, and played out regularly at local music venues. They had mutual friends, and she even enjoyed listening to a song by one of his bands, but they didn't meet until two years ago.
Forsberg, who had been the drummer for the aggressive rock Blind Iris until they broke up in 2006, was hanging out at the Eagles Lodge when a friend introduced him to Melody Pulsipher (who prefers to go by only her very appropriate first name, thank you).
"You should give me your number; we should jam sometime," he said.
"Yeah, like I haven't heard that pickup line before," thought the attractive blond singer-songwriter, whose voice is a bit reminiscent of Jewel.
But she did let him bring his guitar over, cringing in anticipation as he began to play, and then slowly realizing that he has a great voice, in the Ben Harper style.
The pair started dating, and she encouraged him to play out acoustically as well. After six months, Forsberg got a job offer for a flooring company in Salt Lake, and Melody went with him.
A persistent show booker, she was soon getting them gigs all over Salt Lake. They'd take turns opening for one another, and eventually began playing and singing backup for one another on stage.
Forsberg says he currently prefers being an acoustic artist. For one thing, tear down is a snap.
"Acoustic is naturally more intimate," he says. "You can't hide behind anything." He says he enjoys the way the audience focuses on his music rather than being distracted by all the movement of a full band.
"We're starting to see a lot more acoustic musicians playing in bigger spots and on TV shows," he says. "It just seems like acoustic solo musicians are starting to build, almost to the level playing field of bands."
Melody adds, "Whether it's a political song or a love song or a break up song or whatever it is, I think we as people need those, not only to connect with someone we may have never met before, but to kind of really release whatever emotion that we're feeling with it."
Their idea to create a festival came while they were at a bar, watching an under-attended acoustic show on a Wednesday night. That's when Melody realized that there wasn't a real showcase for acoustic music; it "kind of gets lots in the mix."
They booked the first Acoustic All-Stars festival over a Saturday and Sunday in late August 2008 at The Star Bar in Park City. "Acoustic music seems to blossom a little more in Park City," Forsberg comments. "Salt Lake is more band-driven."
They ended up with a pretty healthy crowd on Saturday and a slightly sparser one on Sunday.
This year, the festival is taking place during the Park City Arts Festival. Forsberg also says that he and Melody handled all the promotion themselves last year, but this year, they're leaning on the musicians themselves to help a little more.
Those musicians, by the way, aren't all folky types; they represent genres that include alternative, blues and country.
And while some promoters make bands pay to play by selling tickets and then turning in the money, Melody and Forsberg give them tickets which they can either sell to make money or give away to bring more people in, as they choose.
Melody says she sees it as a chance to correct things she's experienced at other shows that "aren't in the spirit of just being a musician." Even though Melody and Forsberg are doing the bulk of the legwork to make the event happen, they plan to split any proceeds between themselves and the other bands equally.
"It truly is about the festival. It's not about us. We're no bigger than the festival," Forsberg says.
"Honestly," he continues, "it's the love of the music. That's what both of us have in common. That's what we try to fill our lives with. I just look forward to the day that it's the 10th Annual Acoustic All-Stars."

TIMMY PEARCE (8 - 8:30 p.m.)
Hails from: Logan
The sound: "Soulful, feelgood, honest and raw."
Why acoustic? Pearce says, "I love playing acoustic guitar because it is very personal, I can play it anywhere, and it's like a big hollow drum, great for rhythm!"
Story behind a song: His favorite things to sing about are "making the best of what's around, fighting through the trials and hard times life can throw at you, and being there for your friends and loved ones!"
You should know: He's self-taught. "I can't read music, but I can sure feel it," he says.

JABLUE (8:45 - 9:15 p.m.)
Hails from: Provo
The sound: Jam Band / Folk Rock
You should know: Jablue's influences include Dave Matthews, Jack Johnson, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan, 311, Sublime, John Mayer, Cat Stevens, Jim Croce, Three Dog Night, "or anything that you would wanna play while chill'n on a beach somewhere."

Winners of the 2009 Posty for “Best Utah Rock Band”, The Wayne Hoskins Band has spent the last two years focused on writing and recording their music. Now, the spring of 2010 brings the long awaited self titled EP release. Formed in 2008 Dustin, Dave, Mike, Carl, and Eric combined to create music described as “edgy, driving and elegant.” Their music is not for the fainthearted, the band’s ability to create a self indulgent apathy, in songs like Something Better and shift swiftly to the passionate apologetic “April” isn’t the only reason fans have clinged to The Wayne. Dustin’s grainy vocals and lyrics give listeners a window into themselves and shed light on his own internal demons and delights. Conceptually simple the greatest element of The Wayne’s efforts is the chemistry of these musicians – Carl’s droning bass lines, matched with Eric’s explosive drums lay the foundation for Mike’s inspiring organ and string pads, while Dave lays both harmonic vocals and threatening guitars all matched to Dustin’s throaty breathless vocals.
The Wayne’s resume include a number of venues around the West and include gigs at Sundance Film Festival and two invitations to the exclusive Acoustic All Stars Festival in Park City, UT.
In no simple form can The Wayne Hoskins Band be described. Influenced by The Frames, Justin Currie, and Todd Thibaud they fall into a cross genre; compared to The Fray, Lifehouse, and Daughtry the best way to describe The Wayne might simply be – classically good.
The Wayne was recently approached by a team of producers to begin their next project -, a full studio album, set to release late 2010. - Promenade Music Festival

The Second Chance Foundation of Utah is hosting “Celebrate U,” on Saturday, Sept. 18,2010 at Utah Valley University.
Celebrate U is a self-esteem building, suicide prevention day that will feature the popular band SafetySuit and will free of charge.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among teenagers and adults under 35. There are an estimated 10 to 20 million non-fatal attempted suicides every year worldwide.
“This is an amazing opportunity to hear one of the hot new bands not only perform live, but to talk about suicide prevention and why every life matters,” said Neil K. Warner, Second Chance Foundation of Utah President. “This is a rare event. You just don’t get to hear bands of this caliber in such an intimate setting very often. I believe most of us know someone who has suffered with depression or low self-esteem. This event could be life-changing for them.”
SafetySuit will by the keynote speaker and perform some acoustical songs at 5 p.m. at the UVU Activity Center. The band’s debut CD is titled, “Life Left to Go,” and was released in 2008. It featured two top 40 hits in “Someone Like You,” and “Stay,” which was No. 1 on VHI’s top 20 video countdown.
“It’s ( the CD) was named after our last song on the record, which is our least commercial song ever. It chronicles the thoughts of someone who wants to end their life. Then it presents the counter of that, the person begging them to stay,” said lead singer Doug Brown in the band’s bio. “It’s a song to let people know that, no matter what, somebody notices them, that someone cares.”
Later that night SafetySuit will perform a concert in the McKay Events Center at 7:30 p.m. Joining SafeySuit on the bill will be the Wayne Hoskins Band, one of Utah’s top new bands. They are from Park City and were voted as the Best Local Band/Artist (rock) by postfontaine.com.

Bio
THE WAYNE HOSKINS BAND, formed in 2008, is a regionally featured American Rock band from the Western United States, with live performances at the Sundance Film Festival, including a show at the HOUSE OF BLUES Foundation Room Park City, Acoustic All-Stars Festival, the Utah State Fair and a recent performance with SafetySuit (#1 on VH1’s Top 20 Countdown) to a crowd of over 2,000 fans.
With music described as “edgy, driving and elegant,” The Wayne Hoskins Band is made up of five passionate musicians, each bringing unique elements of creativity to the band. The well-crafted songs give listeners a window into themselves and shed light on raw passion and emotion.
Down to earth yet powerful, “These are not your typical songs; these (songs) are from our lives and experiences. They are real words and real emotions.” One music critic writes, the songs of The Wayne Hoskins Band are “brilliant and will find a home in the hearts of listeners from every walk of life.”
The Wayne’s live show is full of energy and passion, always leaving fans wanting more. “It’s a whole different experience to see us live.” The band has already established a devoted following of passionate music lovers and rock enthusiasts.
With influences ranging from The Frames to Johnny Cash, The Wayne falls into a cross-genre; compared to early Counting Crows, The Fray, Lifehouse and The Script.
The debut EP "Breaking Here" was released in November 2010 during a SOLD OUT live performance. The Wayne is now preparing for their 2011 TOUR to promote their first full-length album, soon to be released.
