"The Veescars Tonight at The Norfolk Basement!"

The Veescars are one of the newer emerging bands to crop up around Perth recently. I saw them for the first time a few weeks back over at The Velvet Lounge (at the back of the Flying Scotsman) and I gotta say I was most impressed.

The band formed in 2006 when singer/songwriter Maynard Inkster (if that is your real name) and guitarist Tom Varian joined forces. They then enlisted the talents of drummer and bassist James Trewenack and before they knew it, they were makin’ sweet music which went on to win them the Step Up Live song writing competition at the end of 2006.

Fast forward to 2009 and armed with a bunch of experience and a handful of recorded material the band found the final piece of the puzzle in the form of Jamie Kuzich – their new bass player. Now a sexy four piece it was time to record, and the final product was their debut EP ‘Lucy’, a tale of a girl who falls in love with her shadow, and ultimately disconnects from the world entirely. Deep.

But that was last year, this is this year. The guys are back on the live show train, and will be playing down at the Norfolk Basement tonight, Friday 19th February, so get down and show a bit of support for the lads, cos their next show isn’t booked until the end of March! Get down early to catch the support acts if you can, Stereoflower and Simone & Girlfunkle.

Bio

“It feels like sticking your head out of a car window, speaking your secrets aloud while feeling the harsh wind and sun warm your face” – Maynard Inkster.

The debut EP release ‘Lucy’ is a creative realisation, a reflection of reality and surreal dream like sequences that gives permanency to The Veescars’ honest and undeniably alluring sounds.

Singing out secret tales of chance, love & lust The Veescars reveal depth in pop melodies alongside the thrill of impulsive emotion.

Taking on challenges and building musical bonds The Veescars are looking ahead in 2010 with hunger in their eyes.
