Bio

Singer/songwriter, Rachel Burrell exploded onto the music scene on Wednesday, April 13, at Le Poisson Rouge, 158 Bleecker St., performing four songs from her first solo project called “The Story Teller.”

It was an enthusiastic audience that greeted the passionate songstress with a distinct soulful voice, the weight and full body of it reminiscent of Nina Simone, as she shared her stories of love, pain, heartbreak and struggle. Burrell, who believes she has seen life through various lens and angles, says she uses those experiences to write lyrics and tell her stories.

Burrell who lives by the motto “Let your voice be heard,” is the founder of the New York based company, Price Tags Art, which focuses on promoting artists who write thought- provoking and conscious music. It is her belief that music is a ‘heavy’ influence in all of our lives and that of our youth – to that end Price Tags Art has been committed to going into schools to speak to young people about music and the psychological effect of its content.

Born in Wisconsin, raised in Jamaica W.I., Rachel has called New York City home for 10+ years. She graduated from The Fashion Institute of Technology in 2007 with honors and a BS degree in Advertising and Marketing Communications.

After producing music and poetry events at various New York City venues and working with countless underground artists, Burrell now feels it is her time to step into the limelight. Already looking forward to success she says fans can expect a diversity of topics on upcoming projects as her goal is to write about issues that aren’t talked about enough.
