"Indonesian Indie Scene"

In the legion of garage rock revivalist, the S.I.G.I.T. (short for the Super Insurgent Group of Intemperance Talents) is one of the new crop of bands that looked further into the past for inspiration and emerged triumphantly. Critics could argue that the S.I.G.I.T., with all its pretentious moniker, is just a passing fad, a band that swam in the slipstream of the garage rock revival promoted by contemporaries like the Datsuns, Kings of Leon or Wolfmother. But one need only check out their live shows to see some raw power in the work, a ferocious rock ’n’ roll a la AC/DC and Deep Purple. Not yet releasing a proper album, the Sigit has won a cult following (beat that Radja) - M. Taufiqurrahman - The Jakarta Post

"THE SUPER INSURGENT GROUP OF INTEMPERANCE TALENT"

Issue 939
Visible Idea Of Perfection (Reverberation/Caveman)
Goddamn! Is this Indonesia’s answer to Wolfmother? A big call, but it is pretty clear that The Super Insurgent Group Of Intemperance Talent (SIGIT for short) are devotees of ‘70s inspired rock with Led Zeppelin, The Stooges and Deep Purple capturing their hearts and minds. Starting out playing covers of their heroes, it is clear from what’s on show that it didn’t take long before they realised they could write a catchy rock tune with plenty of hooks. With a scene full of try-hards, fakes, imitators and non-genuine acts I have to say these guys are the real deal, complete with the tight black leather to boot. Their music encompasses every ounce of the rock spirit, packed full of ripping guitar solos, rampaging riffs and plenty dirty growling vocals. Black Amplifier is the album standout and features one of the most memorable rocking riffs you’ll ever hear (for the air guitarists, this is your moment). New Generation is full of rock‘n’roll swagger and the acoustic track Live In New York needs some hand claps for completeness. Clove Doper is an all out rock‘n’roll assault and another album highlight, Soul Sister,is a real hip shaker with lashings of guitar melody and romp stomping drum beats. For the collectors and completists out there, SIGIT’s self-titled EP is a good pick-up, even though all the tracks on it feature on the album. Visible Idea Of Perfection is a tower of strength, with 13 tracks that have already won over many Australians and potentially now the rest of the world.

"The S.I.G.I.T."

The Sigit, an acronym for The Super Insurgent Group Of Intemperance Talent, are an Indonesian-based rock group. Don’t let them fool you though, these guys are as western rock as you can get, having taken influence from every band ever to wear tight, black leather. Heavy, pumping riffs, dirty growls and ripping guitar solos will leave your ears gloriously violated, the way all rock does. While their sound is nothing new they encompass the very spirit of rock, rebelling against authority and all that jazz. These guys aren’t just going through the motions, they are sincere about what they do and their excitement and passion definitely shines through their tunes. First taking Indonesia by storm these guys have now set their sights on Australia. Who knows, maybe one day they will even take the world.

"Live Review @ Hi Fi Bar, Melbourne"

The contrast between what was played on the venue’s sound system and tonight’s live bands could not have been more extreme. The soulful strains of Stevie Wonder punctuated each break in proceedings – perhaps a ploy to calm the crowd between shifts. News must have travelled fast that Indonesian rockers The S-I-G-I-T (Super Insurgent Group Of Intemperance Talent) had the 9pm support honours and curiosity was a drawcard for early birds. The son of the Indonesian president is a fan and helped get the band to Australia for their first overseas tour – friends in high places! The promise of an extra day off work (God Save the Queen!) added electricity to expectation and it was rumoured an encore gig by our Javanese guests was scheduled at Pony for the wee hours of Lizzie’s birthday.

The S-I-G-I-T strutted onto the stage exuding attitude, primed for their debut international tour. Adit (the bassplayer) was channelling Andrew Stockdale ’s style, and the other three members modelled T-shirts displaying their influences; Rekti (vox/ guitar) – Queen , perhaps in honour of Her Royal Highness rather than a nod to the band, Farri (vox/ guitar) – David Bowie , Acil (drums) – The Clash . What a mixed bag! Not random enough to be classified as punk, their tight, catchy sounds reveal traces of acknowledged influences Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple .
Like a racehorse bolting from its stall, a solo dance enthusiast propelled around the floor in a blur of uncoordinated Cossack steps. I think he was with the band, was this the Indonesian president’s son? Having spotted him earlier sculling stubbies in one gulp, observers kept their distance. He covered a lot of ground and was sole custodian of the entire dancefloor during this set. With song titles like ‘Black Amplifier’ and ‘Gaby Is A ‘Ho’ you would be unable to guess this band’s nationality with your eyes shut. I would hasten to suggest they’ve dissected Wolfmother ’s material but they’re not easy to pigeon-hole. Impressive versatility was demonstrated and one lyric that leapt out at me sounded like “Tryin’ ta look cool while you’re standing on a street sign” (from ‘Gaby Is A ‘Ho’).

“We’re really glad to be here, it’s nice! I think I’m gonna come back later,” Rekti enthused. He stepped up on the drum platform in the final stages of their closer before jumping off to play the last thrashing chords. Acil seemed to break a cymbal which was replaced as soon as the band left the stage. Asking a bartender what he thought of The S-I-G-I-T elicited a glowing report – he’d be heading to Pony after work for a repeat performance.

I stuck around for 67 Special and started shuffling my feet from the safety of a step, elevated above the aforementioned spinning-top’s turf. A previous engagement made it necessary for me to leave before Dallas Crane hit the stage but this gig felt somehow complete. As I departed the venue I felt as if I’d already witnessed two headline acts.
