"Ritual" is an album that boasts killer tracks and disposable ditties, The River Phoenix could just take off if "I'm Usa You're Canada" gets decent airplay. It's infectous. Don't be fooled by the name. The group comes a long way from the LA stomping ground, where the actor, from which they take their name (although with a clever THE added) met his demise. This group is another of a long line of happening Scandinavian outfits. This lot comes from Denmark. Lush guitars and big bouncing choruses, are the order of the day, and vocals that sound as if they've come direct form the mouth of Placebo's Brian Molko. Just listen to "To be willing...." - BBC
... The River Phoenix are nothing less than mesmerising. Opening track "5 wheel Drive" highlights the fuzzy experimentation, but never at the expense of an infectious tune. A near perfect production job from Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives a.m.o.) has created an aptly crisp sound. A breath of fresh and icy air! - BigCheese
Explosively intuitive, uniquely dynamic and unashamedly, dare we say it, emo (and by that we are referring to the long forgotten art of ubiquitously emotional, expressive popular music, not Fall Out Boy), this Danish quintet pen the kind of emotively charismatic rock that reminds you of just how potently engaging intelligentmusic can be. Euphorically massive melodies roll through jarring key changes and grimey middle eights, while pummeling drums perforate each track like a needle through paper, a punk rock giant grounded by poetic roots. Fuzzy guitars, epic basslines and vocal harmonies with a tendency to slip into gang vovals all add to the feeling of unrestrained innovation. - Rocksound Ltd

Remember when artistic integrity and innovation was to be admired more than an expensive haircut and a tight pair of jeans? Remember when songwriters strove for more than the next unit-shifting cookie cutter chorus? Remember when music was a bit more, well, honest? The River Phoenix do. Heck, they’ve never had a choice in the matter. In direct reaction to the rash of artificial-sounding records that are popping up with alarming regularity, with The River Phoenix what you hear through your headphones is what you’ll get live – only more so.
The debut album “Ritual” was recorded in Stockholm with Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Logh) over the space of two weeks. The likes of ‘I’m USA You’re Canada’, ‘5 Wheel Drive’ and ’28-83-7’ rise and fall with passionate, bombastic choruses and subtle, measured introspection, sketching out vast sonic patterns intricately weaved with swathes of lush guitar melodies.
Having already achieved a childhood dream supporting The Smashing Pumpkins, the stage is set for The River Phoenix to begin making a name for themselves on the world stage.
Debut album recorded, produced and mixed in Stockholm by PELLE GUNNERFELDT (logh, the hives, the international noise conspiracy, fireside etc.)
During 2008-2009 TRP toured Germany supporting The Stills and performed showcases at Canadian Music week, South By South West, CMJ, The Great Escape. Plus headlining tours in Scandinavia, their home territory.
