"The Record Summer are all about violins, bitter-sweet lyricism and intense performance delivery, and the brilliantly-titled An Enormous Anger… is no exception to this. If you’ve ever been moved by Sufjan Stevens, secretly quite enjoyed Mumford & Sons or been completely blown away by Bon Iver, then you may well want to get involved with this." - Killing Moon Limited (UK)
"What do 'The Record Summer' do? That's open to interpretation. For me, they reach for something pure, that's the only way I can describe it. They sound truthful, they sound like they mean it." - The Kid in the Front Row (UK)
The Record Summer creates "delicately beautiful indie pop songs."
An Enormous Anger in Brooklyn is a "summer masterpiece." - Electric Panda Music
"Discovering the Undiscovered" - Filter
Respect Music recently signed The Record Summer (aka Bret Rodysill) to a publishing deal.
The single ‘Put You Out’ was recently Number 1 worldwide on The Hype Machine. It is perfect for setting a tone, defining a moment. For The Record Summer this may just be the beginning. - Respect Music (UK--Subpublished by Sony/Kassner in the U.S.)
"Many newspapers have called The Record Summer a perfect mix between Sufjan Stevens and Midlake." - JD
Bret Rodysill is one to watch - he writes beautiful songs, and when he came to the 1Take rooftop, he demonstrated an uncanny ability to write complete songs within the jam… He is also a really, really nice guy. For me that is important. - 1Take TV
"The band's talent and execution was impressive."
"Rodysill's vocals were just as good as the album advertised."
- Sunset in the Rearview

Bio
Featured in Filter Magazine's "Discover the Undiscovered" column, The Record Summer (TRS) mixes the lush arrangements and vocal style of Sufjan Stevens with Shoegaze atmospherics, equally inspired by Midlake and The Cure.
Singer and songwriter Bret Rodysill moved from Minnesota to New York at 19. He was quickly playing CBGBs and other iconic New York venues, before leaving for Europe to play shows throughout France and Spain. Upon his return to the US, he began work with drummer Dave West on a new project called The Record Summer. The resulting EP was powerful enough that in 2011, The Record Summer became one of only two US bands to receive an at large bid to Primavera Sound 2011 in Barcelona. The Record Summer continued shows in New York City, including the 2011 and 2012 CMJ Music Marathons, showcasing at South by Southwest in 2012 and 2013, and the Northside Festival (Brooklyn) in 2013.
The band is recording its first LP this 2015 in Minneapolis with producer Bryan Hanna.
The Record Summer is Bret Rodysill on guitars, pianos of various types, and vocals. It has featured Jake Hansen of Halloween, Alaska on lead guitars, and many other prominent musicians local to Minneapolis/St. Paul.
