Bio
The passion and creativity of The Real Spectra was born on opposite coasts, East and West, following two dramatic events in the lives of the bands leading creative influences. The great city of San Diego is where the group calls home and where the first of these two influential experiences began.
Driving in excess of 165mph in a street race in North County San Diego, Aaron Cortez (Guitar) suddenly lost control of his car, drifted into the dirt median, spun out, and rolled across the freeway. Aaron was knocked out immediately and only recalls waking up to a cacophony of sirens and screaming with a warm stream of blood dripping down his face. He gazed through the roof of the vehicle, which had been torn open, and through the gnarled gaps in metal he looked to the sky. It was at this moment that he realized he had been spared for a reason. Following the accident, the guitar became his escape and the music became effortless. He had found a way to meditate and free his mind from the harsh realities of life. Soon after, he began working with Ryan Fennessey (Drums) and Kiran Sheshadri (Bass) as a three piece, writing rock instrumentals. The group quickly produced a number of tracks and began their search for a frontman who shared their intensity and passion.
Derek Krug (Vocals) had recently uprooted his life on the East Coast to come to Pacific Beach San Diego chasing his first love, leaving behind everything he knew including the music which had been his biggest passion in life. The relationship was short-lived, however, and in its aftermath Derek found himself in a state of confusion and depression that he had never experienced before. It was at this time that he came across a group of musicians with a style and energy that was impossible to ignore. He used his emotion to fuel some of his most powerful writing to date and The Real Spectra was born. Within three months the group had compiled a complete albums worth of new songs and began touring Southern California.
In the bands first year they have released a four-song EP entitled Under the Radar working with producer Jason Weber, and have built a loyal fan following in Southern California. The band continues to tour, and is currently writing and recording songs to include on its highly anticipated debut album.
